Title: SFX Magazine: Vote For The 250 Greatest Sci-Fi And Fantasy Moments Of All Time.
Post by: dweezil2 on 02 April, 2014, 11:22:16 PM
Nice to see "Gaze into the face of Dredd" making the shortlist!

I also added my own of Dredd (2012) Opening scene. "Do you require backup?" "No!"

You may like to do the same, or something similar!   ;)

ooh, that was a very hard choice! Which is better - the "space is big" intro to hitchhikers or Kirk yelling "Khaaaan" ?

Bah, there are about fifty bits from Babylon 5 which are better than that one. Moan, whine, etc...

At least they picked the right bit of Excalibur though.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. How about Sheridan leaping into the abyss on Z'ha'dum just moments before the nuke goes off, or Vir waving goodbye to Morden's head on a spike, or the reveal of Garibaldi's "second favourite thing", or the moment where Talia's hidden personality takes her over, or, or, or...

And don't get me started on The X-Files, there are sooo many greater moments than Skully seeing her father's ghost pop up for about half a second (although this is, admittedly, a major turning point in her character arc... but still).

As for Dredd (the movie), surely the moment of choice is Dredd throwing Caleb from the balcony, then turning his back and walking away...

Yeah. Best moment in the film.

Also one moment I like in Dredd was in the lift;

Anderson: Sir, he's thinking of making a move for your weapon.
Dredd: Yeah.
Anderson: He's changed his mind.
Dredd: Yeah.

What about 'Perps were...unco-operative.'  or 'Ma-Ma's not the law...I am the Law.'

Plus there's the whole epic Lex monologue!

Unfortunately, 'As for you Ma-Ma...Judgement Time' still makes me wince a bit inside.  ;)

This scene is the highlight of the Dredd.

Wahey! Jane Fonda's zero-g strip tease is the most original use of a SF conceit in the opening titles sequence  ever so well chuffed that (ahem) made it in.

I think Roy Batty's 'Tears in rain' speech is my favourite sci-fi moment of all time. It's like a beautiful little speech on dreams, memories and the acceptance of death, but wrapped up in a brilliant sci-fi clothing with the 'C-beams' and 'Tannhauser Gate', and it's delivered beautifully by Rutger Hauer.

"Gaze into the fist of Dredd" would also make my top ten. Such an iconic moment and probably the greatest panel in 2000AD history!

Yes it was, Goaty.

That is one beautiful looking film, breathtaking production design especially for the ship herself and surroundings.
