We were doing a q+a for Minty in Scarborough today and this got mentioned to us by Danny John Jules who was with the rest of the Red Dwarf cast.
Dredd appears at the end.
This costume must have been doing the rounds in the early 90s.
Namedropper. Looks like this (http://www.2000ad.org/covers/2000ad/hires/898.jpg).

Didn't it end up being robbed, never to be seen again?
Last I saw of it was a rejigged version around the reaction figure launch. I think wake said it vanished or was stolen after that.
I'm not even sure if the reaction ones were the same thing or casts of the original.
I did email Steve Cook to see if he new who made it originally, but haven't heard anything. I wonder if Cliff Robinson knows?
Seems to follow his design.
It's a shame it disappeared.
Very good, never seen that before
Hellllppppp.... flashbackkkkkk..... brain mellltttiiinnngggg....
How exactly did that end up happening..? Were Fleetway looking the other way at the time..?
Nonsense - Why does Dredd not have an American accent?

Because he can adapt to his surroundings.

What was it?
Looks to be the - apparently very expensive - costume that Fleetway had made for promotion purposes in the early 90s. I only remember seeing it once, at a 2000AD panel at one of the old London UKCACs, when 'Dredd' appeared at the end in a fairly cringeworthy (and inaudible - he was miming to pre-recorded dialogue that had been beefed up with production effects to give him a supposedly menacing voice, but the venue's PA system wasn't up to the task) rehearsed scene to arrest the editorial team.
The term hadn't been invented back then, but this was a Giant Fail all round.

The only clue being lots of salt left behind.

He sentenced a futsie to cube time instead of medical treatment?
I'm not sure why that video has disappeared - if you google tongue-tied by Danny John jules, it was some music video thing.
The costume cropped up in cutscenes for a play station game, a few covers and promo stuff.
Success or failure depends on a few factors - I guess this predates cosplay being big in the UK, so even with perfect performances and technical stuff going OK, a single person in costume is always going to feel a bit odd.
It's a lot better if you can get a few in matching costumes, be it comic or movie.
Having taken photos for the Planet Replicas and Minty judges promo at cons, you generally can't move a few feet without someone wanting to have their photo taken.
It's certainly a lot more visible than just having a stand - whether it translates into anything tangible is another thing entirely.

There it is, Homer; the cleverest thing you'll ever say, and nobody heard it.
The video is still up there, as I just checked!
Hmm... I could be wrong, but wasn't the Red Dwarf Smegazine published by the same folks who owned 2000AD at the time? If so, that might go some way toward explaining Dredd's appearance in the video!

Link works fine for; might be the device you're web-browsing on.

I suppose the explanation of why the costume is in there depends on whether Danny John Jules knew he could get the reggae Judge Dread to appear and subsequently had the idea of riffing on his name, or
vice versa.

I'm having the same problem. Can someone help by providing a YouTube search term? Thanks.

Red Dwarf: Tongue Tied '93 (1 of 4)
Thanks, Soapy!
That was bloody awful.
It's just a bit of mirth between Judge Dredd and Judge Dread. I am sure Danny's musical taste infuenced the appearance.

That's a surprisingly good design for the uniform, the actor even looks the part.
But, for the 1 or 2 who don't know, Judge Dredd didn't steal from Judge Dread...they both owe it to Prince Buster.

...and Prince Buster also sung 'Madness'...

...and Madness, well, I fink I better get back to work.
