Anyone else think it's a bit shit of people to sell the FCBD 2000AD at ridiculous prices?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000AD-Judge-Dredd-FCBD-2014-Free-Comic-Book-Day-Promo-Issue-MINT-HARD-TO-FIND-/331193559554?pt=UK_Books_comics_Magazines_UK_Comics_ET&hash=item4d1cacaa02
I hope it's not a fellow boarder.
If you know them, name and shame them.
What a dick!
It's even listed as "hard to find". Like it wasn't readily available for free in Comic shops all across the land.
Even OMG Exeter had a few copies. Yes Exeter, where nobody loves comics (except me obviously).
Cheers
'spose there's nothing legal that can be done about that it's just very...
very very
very cheeky. Especially when Disposable Heroes still have copies and are flogging them for 99p (http://www.disposableheroes.co.uk/next-weeks-releases/other-publishers/fcbd-2014-2000-ad-special-net-/prod_53840.html)
I'm not best happy about the selling of these on at any price; let alone what this f**king profiteer is at: Still, in my case, I'm to blame cause I didn't diarise the event and missed out for the second year running. Still bad form from whoever! Z
Trouble is if people still feed the beast they will keep doing it. If folk who missed out, often for all sorts of unavoidable reasons, could have a little patience they'll be a load of these floating around at 99p or less. I understand and sympathise with impatience, and have fallen victim of it myself in the past, but if, if, if by force of will people could avoid buying um at silly price the silly prices will go away soon enough.
Still dick move. Based on the fact that as he says they were going fast. If he saw that why did he pick it up rather than just leave it for someone who wanted it. I was tempted to get a couple so I could pass one on here, but since they were going like hot cakes felt that was a little unfair. Hope whomever got the one I 'left' has read and enjoyed it and even better is a newbee who might try out the regular comic.
Fine post Colin. Totally endorse the last part. Z
What a c**t. And what Colin said.
Haven't physically made one of the FCBD things. I know 2000AD especially does run out; is there
really no one-copy-per-customer rule enforced? I know that tweaks the nose of the spirit of the
whole thing, but....
As has been mentioned above, people can get them for 99p through certain means, which helps those who don't live anywhere near a comic shop.
I hope no-one buys that from this person and it just stays online for EVER!
when my daughters finished her smurfs one i'll be accepting offers from £550 ;)
I really wanted a Smurfs one but my LCS didn't order any - damn their eyes!

well then when shes finished i'll try and remember to pm you
And the seller was from Glasgow? The shame of it :(
You know what I hate? Intolerance.
And the Dutch.
You can't really blame someone for trying to make some money, and if someone is stoopid enough to pay what's being asked, I guess they had nothing better to do than spend money (rather than, say, look for a cheaper copy elsewhere.
That said, I hope no one is stoopid enough to buy the comic off him. (or has someone?)
I left one in bluemeanie's room for him at Bristol, as I knew he couldn't get it!
What the f**k, we're tying to understand this mercenary prick now! Look folks we have limited evidence; a sense of indignant justification; a general idea where he/she lives....I say we form a posse comitatus, get a good length of hemp rope, ride up to Glasgow and start hangin anyone that look side ways at us.....it's the only way to be sure!!
Joking aside they shouldn't be doing that it is flagarnt abuse of other organisations and people's good will and as a result pretty low behaviour. Z

No. Selling a free comic for £15 is blatant profiteering. Profiteering is bad.
It's not profiteering any more than anyone else selling on eBay. Just like with anything else posted on eBay, the market dictates the price - if someone is willing to pay for it, it's fair play. If someone pays for this FREE comic, then that person felt the price was fair (or fair to pay, if you get my meaning.
We don't have to like the dude's selling price - I don't - but that doesn't mean he's being unethical (he doesn't have a monopoly on this book and this book isn't a NEED).
He/she is being unethical.
On this subject, I am now out. You may want to further argue his/her case. Fine.

I'm not arguing for this person - I'm not disagreeing that the price is ridiculous.
BUT
(firstly I'm surprised at your "outrage"; surely there are worse things in this world to be outraged about)
This is no different than anything else on eBay. Dude sets a price hoping to make money. If no one did that on eBay, we'd all be getting mailed neat things we want.
I can go down the list on why this sucks but isn't unethical, but I don't need to: it's not a NEED item, no one is going to live longer if they have it or don't have it. It all comes down to whether a person wants to pay for it or not. If someone stoopidly pays for it, someone stoopidly though the comic was worth it, and were bilked when they could have found it cheaper elsewhere.
Well, I for one am pleased that this thread came of the whole affair... just because I now know Napalm Kev is just down the road from me!
Respectfuly, I think the link bewtween participation and active encouragement is tenuous. The comics are written, drawn, edited gratis and presented to the shops as an encouragement to potential new readers. This is done obviously to boost sales and make profit in the long term, but also, I think as a symbol that the industry is more than the bottom line (that is is an industry based on imaginaiton and creativity....not money alone). However this quasi speculation on behalf of the publishers works in favour of the regular readers for reasons so obvious I need not go into them.
Now the person who went into the shop and lifted the free comic/comics and proceeded straight away to advertise them on e-bay did two things: a) deprived other people of the chance to obtain a copy and b) completely abused the signature intent of FCBD, which is, in my opinion, a day when the milieu which we all love rises above itself and does something which is not just about the money. So for these reasons shame on the f**king profiteering parasite. Z
There's folk selling Penny Blacks for £100 plus, and there were nearly 70 million of them printed and they originally cost (guess) one penny. Plus you can't even use them to send a letter 'cos they've already been stamped.
It's just supply, demand and people with more money passion than sense. You can view what is being sold on eBay as a service rather than a product, and what's being sold here is convenience for those who were unable or unwilling to get to a relevant shop at a relevant time, or make the arrangements subsequently.
Given that FCBD books cost retailers and manufacturers actual money, and the purpose is broadly to encourage interest in comics and comic shops, and more specifically in the particular comic being offered, I suspect that tales of unfulfilled demand, speculator greed and crazy prices serves many of those purposes quite admirably, even if that is not the intended means.
What's dickish is picking up more than one with intent to profit from other people's loss. Welcome to the world.

A fellow Exonian/Devonian; Good man! Now there're two of us we can begin a strategic take-over of the Senate (forum)!
Cheers
300 Nigerian young girls get kidnapped and people are pissing their knickers at someone failing to sell a free comic.
Yeah, I'm out too.
Out of Order selling a free comic at that price but why pay £ 15 for a free comic. I went to Forbidden Planet's London Mega Store, no free comics left but I did get a few Graphic Novels sign by Henry Flint
My FCBD copy is currently at £10.50 on eBay but it is signed by 8 droids including Wagner and Flint, and 100% for cancer research charity

Eamon, hope it goes for a fortune....the issue on the thread is about putting it on for private gain. Z
With respect to Matt, we are all aghast at the situation in Nigeria, and similar horrors throughout the world; but it was pretty self evident even after the most cursory look at this thread that it was specifically about peoples annoyance (I'll put it no higher than that) over localised profiteering. I'm sorry it doesnt match the scale of horrors he rightly points out are taking place at the moment. But it is a thread specific to the issue at hand. There are several other threads constituted to deal with global issues particularly the excellent political thread. There is little positive about evincing contempt for the several posters on here, when frankly the thread never porported to comment on anything else than the titular topic. Z
Mea culpa.
I was in a filthy mood when I posted.
Apologies.
This is the Internet. If you don't want to get worked up about nothing then why are you here?
Surely
the other thing

I know I was just using this thread as an excuse to pimp my auction for a good cause a bit more. ;-)
