Title: Movie Trailers
Post by: W. R. Logan on 06 February, 2003, 09:27:40 PM
Thought Id ask the more technically minded boarders for some help. Ive managed to download the Matrix trailers, Terminator 3 trailer but then cant download other trailers such as daredevil and the hulk. Anyone have any ideas why?

Depends what format the movies are in Logan. It could be that they're Streaming media files, or are "Save" disabled. In a lot of cases, such as the Movie Trailers section on the Quicktime site, the movies are called from inside a Flash player skin, so instead of getting the option to "Save As..." you just get the standard Flash player controls.

If you were going to bunk off your work tomorrow, maybe to head off for the weekend somewhere, what would your excuse be? If illness related, is it better to bugger off early the night before and claim to be ill?

Not that I would do such a thing. Oh no, not me. No way siree. Absolutely not. Never. Uh-uh.

sort of understand that, but for example I go to the Daredevil site, click on view trailer and choose the size I want a white box appears where on other sites the trailer will eventually appearand then nothing happens.

Right, if you're getting a whitebox that usually means that your system doesn't have the right video codec installed to play the movie. Try updating all your movie players to there current versions. Failing that, try opening the properties/info for the movie and see what the file was encoded with. Then do a search for the decoder on the web. Are you using a Mac or PC (urrgghh! Feel dirty even thinking of Windows)? If you're on a mac then make sure you're running QuickTime 6. That usually solves most playback problems!

DON'T DO IT!

Trailers these days invariably give away the ENTIRE plot of the film.

I'm sure it never used to be like this (but I'm sure if I check out the extras on a few DVDs I'll find that it was. And they had Patrick Allen).

Patrick Allen, cool! I hear Night of the Big Heat is due for a DVD release this year, classic nonsense.

Logan, I had the exact same problem, even after downloading the required software I still got the white box on the Daredevil site.

Never sorted it out, so got the trailer via Kazaa, along with The Hulk trailer (which looks pish).

While we're on the subject, check out the trailer for Tarantino's next movie, KILL BILL (http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/kill_bill/kill_bill_large.html%22%20target=%22_blank)

Not at all.  You're so  dangerously close to being right on the money that the Secret Writers Club will have to hunt you down and kill you.

Me here a month ago, musing on  subjects for my Megazine column:
