Ive heard a lot about Broadband and it sounds very good! But... Do yuou think its good. You need it for the XBOX onling gaming thing (XBOX Live). Which Provider is the best and most affordable. IN BRITAIN.
I've got 600k NTL BB mainly for Xbox Live. I've had no problems so far. I'ts still very expensive in this country, I read a lot on the EDGE forum about other countries having 2MB lines for around IIRC ?10 per month, maybe cheaper. But it's gonna be a similar price whichever company you go with. If you have the choice of availability of different service providers, try and play 'em off each other to get a good deal, you should at least get a free installation.
See you online
I've just switched to BT Broadband. They've got rid of the connection fee and knocked 35 quid off the price of the modem down to ?50. If you've got your own adsl modem, it doesn't cost anything. Monthly fee is still just under ?30 a month, but BT's customer support actually does it's job if anything's wrong. I know people on NTL, and they've all said that they're fine until something goes wrong, then they don't want to know.
The thing is, I went and bought this poster the other day with two cows on it. The thing being it is a poster with two cows standing in a field, nothing else and I want to know why. Is it some famous picture or what? If you don't know the pic I'm talking about, go and find someone who has a copy of Earthworm Jim 2, complete a level and wait for the cow which appears to tell you "well done". That's the picture. Any suggestions anyone at all! I need some way to justify buying it!
I've been with NTL since June 2002 and have had no problems with broadband. HOWEVER, NTL are very slow at processing internet baking payments and used to send me a letter every month threatening to stop my service until I paid, even though I paid the same day I got the bill! Very insulting.
One time they suspended my cable TV, telephone and internet service, blaming non-payment (bollocks). It took something like 12 phone calls to the Technical Helpline to get the blasted things working again. I now have to pay via snail mail to ensure that NTL can process my monthly payment in time - call that progress?

broad band is standard in 78% of houses here.
its fitted in the standard elctrics as you would find a 13 amp plug socket and phone line in every room,
more to do with the fact it makes it easy for the government to track your on line use of course. but i must say its damn fast and smooth. worth the money if you play on the net a lot.
and you can get the thing connected with so many other net savvy gadets with ease. PDAs,phones etc.
I just got a cable connection from Telewest. Its ace.
Pipex (www.pipex.com) do a very cheap all-in startup deal (called "Solo2Go" IIRC).

I've had NTL 128k broadband since April last year, which is supposed to cost ?15 per month on top of my TV/phone package. However, I don't think they've actually billed me yet.

"...but BT's customer support actually does it's job if anything's wrong."
They're the best of the bunch, although that's not saying very much.
If instead of an ADSL modem you buy a NetGear DG824 Wireless DSL modem you can not only use the service on multiple machines without copper spaghetti around the house, but you can also sit on the sofa/lie in the garden/squat on the bog and surf your life away on the ol' lappy...

i have ntl broadband at home but keep finding it cut out on me meaning i have to reset the set top box which is a pain in the arse
also the newsgroups don't seem to work during the evenings which really annoys me
Not mentioning any company I may or may not be associated in any way. Im upgrading to 600k on tuesday with my current provider.
On the subject of customer service, ahem, its well known that a certian company is pretty poor and its amalgamation with another organisation has put it very far back.
Put it this way I am not surprised at the poor service some people get by the telecommunications industry.... After spending 7 years in said sector, I can oly sympathise.
Yer "serious" Slippo
As anyone tried Blue Yonder ?
M.
A mate of mine was saying that he thought his NTL connection was running alot slower than it should and couldn't get any kind of answer whether it was or not from customer support. I told him that a good way to gauge is to see exactly how much porn he could download in an hour. At then end of the hour, if he'd download a *respectable* amount of cuff-flickage material, his connection was definitely slow.
He just looked at me with disgust.
only because he thought you had been hacking his computer access history and knew his filthy viewing habits.
Yup. Blueyonder is the telewest service. Works really well.
So in other words.. you think Bt is the best. Or NTL. Or Telewest. WHICH ONE IS THE BEST!
"So in other words.. you think Bt is the best. Or NTL. Or Telewest. WHICH ONE IS THE BEST!"
Freeserve!!! I'd not go back to BT.
