From May's winner James Newell:
QuoteBased on Anthony Vukojevich's now closed RE-PANELED Blog http://repaneled.blogspot.ie/, which I loved, take any comic panel, 2000ad or other and re draw, re interpret it, what ever... GO MAD!
Indeed - Mr Newell himself did a bit of 2000ad re-paneling for the blog:

So... choose a panel, iconic or incidental and RE-DRAW IT. Change the style (or the medium even), alter the tone, weird it out, serious it up. Take a browse through Mr Vukojevich's blog for ideas and DO HAVE FUN WITH IT.
Remember there are
PRIZES TO BE WON - one for the winner, one for Tharg's Choice - ! All entries will be featured on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/2000adartcomp) where they are admired and liked by our 325 followers :D There will also be a
bonafide 2000ad droid judging their favourite entry for Droid's Choice....!
Rules are these:
- You can enter as many times as you like but bear in mind it will split your vote so
it may not be worth it.
- All entries have to be done
specifically for this competition - so no pictures you've done for anything else.
YOU HAVE UNTIL THE 29TH OF JUNE WHEN WE WILL HURDLE THE VOTING WOLF!
Brilliant topic! I loved that blog and always meant to have a go at some 2000AD repanelling.
(Comitting to a single panel is also far less intimidating than the usual overblown entries that push me right up to the deadline!)
Very cool topic and something I never really considered doing. This should be good fun.
Question: Can an entire page be interpreted as a panel ?? (as in an entire panel takes up one page) Or a double page spread that's contained within one panel ?? Pedantic I know...!
Ah Jesus the talented artists are upping the ante on the artistically challenged (me) already! Come on CFM nip this heartlessness in the bud.Z
:D
Well, I think I've got this one won already!

Hmmm - I don't think so... cos you might as well be doing a cover there. Y'know - it's not really within the spirit of a reinterpreting a single panel on a page. If you're dead set on it I wouldn't disqualify it but if you're asking I'd probably urge you to go for something smaller ;)
Rightyo. That's game ball. Thanks for the clarification dude.
Good call, Mr Newell. I guess it would be useful for each entry to be accompanied by a scan/photo of the original panel.
Good thinking supersurfer....was just going through the back progs...too many choices. Going to select 10 at random and pick my favourite. Its difficult trying to breakdown 30 odd years of progs to just one frame.
Can I request a ban on re-interpretations of Gaze Into The Fist of Dredd? Unless they're like really good or something. ;)

Aaaahh!! Hours of work ruined :o. Seriously when thinking of iconic frames that was one of a few I was considering and already had some ideas.
Oh well back to my 2nd choice of the robohunter reboot ;)

You can
request a ban I suppose...
Most of the time seems to be working out an idea that doesn't suck.
I even had a good idea for it! Killjoy! :)
amines, I feel your pain, man.
Seriously, I was looking forward to 25 versions of that panel.
Would have been awesome, in its own way.
Whats wrong with 25 versions of 'Gaze into the fist of Dredd'? If you have a problem and want to enter....do another panel! I'm sure loads of people have been waiting for this type of opportunity to emulate a panel that is much loved.

It doesn't have to be an iconic panel though - it could be an incidental panel that you make iconic! :D

To me that's what makes this theme so interesting - taking a forgotten no-mark panel out of context and elevating it to a 'starring role.' Going to be fascinating to see what everyone chooses (or, y'know, we could all just do 'Fist of Dredd' ::)).
Quote....... take any comic panel, 2000ad or other and re draw, re interpret it, what ever... GO MAD!
So, as it says "any comic panel" can we redraw a panel from another comic but feature 2000AD characters in it instead of the original ones? If so, I have an idea!
Alb - I suppose you can, I guess you don't have a lot of choice in the entire history of 2000ad ;)
Yes I'm slightly affear'd of Fist of Dredd overload - but if folk really think they can reinterpret it in a unique way that definitely won't get their vote stolen by another Fist of Dredd that's done even more uniquely than theirs then sure they can do it ::)

Groovy. I thought it might be fun to use a panel from elsewhere and 2000AD it up a bit.
I have a couple of ideas now so might do that or an existing 2000AD panel.

Seems like a waste of time to me. Greg Staples already did it in part six of Dead Reckoning back in 1996.
Apologies art-folks, I was attempting a funny... :-[ Note to self: not your forte.
I've nothing against dozens of GITFODs, if this comp has taught me anything it's that you creative types surprise and amaze every time. Genuinely sorry if I put anyone off.
Tordelback has just coined the newest future swear word! I give you 'Gitfod'! Love it.
Gitfod you, mothergidfodder
Not very alternative to its original panel but here's Joe off on his tod again in The Black Hole.

Anyway, thought I'd get the party started.
Nice one Hoagy - ! Anyone got the original panel that we could slot alongside that - ?
Good stuff Hoagy, you've broken this threads duck.
It might not be Dredd overkill you have to worry about but Pineapples overkill. Here's my effort, one of my favourite moments ever in 2000AD history, Transvestite Joe - The original panel was so cool it was used as the prog cover, I can't think of another that has done that... :

Pete Wells improved version...

Apologies...
You're a sick puppy, Wells. I love the leaky faucet for a cock and hand grenades for boobs! Awesome.

Eddy Murphy was just being a gentleman and offering (what he thought was) a lady a lift home in the rain. The scurrilous suggestion that the cops interrupted him before he could get his lips round her wanger is the kind of thing that can only result in more transsexual sex workers catching a nasty chill after being caught in a downpour ... in a state where it rains about as often as it snows. I can't think of another panel being dressed up to imitate a cover either ...
I got zero votes last month, I'm going for negative figures this month. Please remember that when voting!
Pete that's disgusting. You're hired.

I don't think Hoagy's so much reimagined one original panel where Pineapples listens to The Doors while fannying about with his gun as he has distilled a two page sequence into a single image. This page (http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s410/sauchieboy/AD579-Page30PineapplesDoors2.jpg) and this page (http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s410/sauchieboy/AD579-Page29PineapplesDoors1.jpg) from prog 579 (http://www.2000ad.org/covers/2000ad/hires/579.jpg).

Only know this because I've just reread it, but prog 797. The same Zenith headshot appeared in the strip in the next prog (or the next again). The Pineapples cover appeared not long before this too.
There's also a prog in the 600's that uses a Bolland Dredd helmet from (possibly) the Forever Crimes?

add a bit of Goodies comedy

The Angel families first appearance. Love the Angel Gang, great characters. I could not for all my efforts letter it as I just ain't got the proper software.

Well Dredd, like most Judges, doesn't get any "action" so he has to unleash his energies elsewhere. This is so funny and I love the swimming pool.

After all the meta-joke shenanigans of last week I wanted to do a straight picture.
I cheated a bit on the words, conflating panels, and editing stuff out, but that was how I remembered it!

I do not often comment on these. But... Damn, boi!
That's great, Martin! Love the idea of 'flipping' a panel to show us what was happening from the other side, so to speak...
Thanks chaps...believe it or not that panel always bugged me....in that it didn't feel as if Dekker was in quite enough peril to consider blowing herself up with a frag grenade. I was mentally screaming at her to " JUST RUN GIRL"...:-D
Wow! An amazing idea brilliantly executed..Fantastic!
I'm still sad about Dekker. :'(
Awesome work, superb.
Just getting chills looking at Martintds' entry. The impending doom is palpable, you can just hear the groans and moans eminating from the zombies as they close in on Dekker. Bravo.
Yeah, Ennis wrote a story which killed off interesting charachters and blew away cities wherein myriad stories could have been written about. Just incredible! Z :(
That's great Martintds but what's with this thread and topless women?
You were very quick to spot her nonetheless....!!! Its my homage to '28 days later'. Im sure theres a coupke of topless zombies running around in that film.....i'm sure. :D. Thanks all for your generous comments.
Marty, that is a truly unique take on the 'Re-paneled' topic, and an awesome piece of art in its own right.
For me, I can't see anything topping this. Amazing.
Thank you my man. I'm sure there'll be a couple of more entrants before the week is out.
We need some GITFODs and that's a fact.
Fantastic Martin, really clever idea. Gets my vote.
Something that had bothered me about my entry that probably nobody else could see but I just had to sort it for my own sanity. Angel Gang.2

Glastonbury ?? Jealous. :(
Thats nothing. I have mates going to Sonisphere. Can't make it because i'm (heaven above!) on a family HOLIDAY!!!!! 'Wide spread horror'
Can't believe i'm gonna miss the chance to see Iron Maiden, Prodigy, and Metallica together.
Ah well, enjoy yourself neebs. Don't be slouching on the polls now!

I was thinking of the same panel as Archie when the comp was announced. I always knew it was missing something.
