Hey there,
I know this is probably a stupid question, but under submissions for writers, the instruction says the script needs to be a Future Shock story. Can anybody tell me exactly what a Future Shock story is?
Many Thanks.
Do you read 2000AD regularly?

Basically, a "Future Shock" is a one-off tale (usually set in the future) which has a twist ending.
Usually five pages long & have a ! at the end.
This weeks prog has a "Terror Tale" (essentially the same thing, except more horror then sci-fi) which will give you the basic premise) or the new Megazine #203 has a reprint of an old Future Shock.
Hope this helps,
Oddboy.
Many thanks W.R. Logan,
These stories, do they have to follow specific characters or is the writer free to create as he pleases?
Steve.
Right,
Thanks for the help guys. How long have you lot been reading this mag?

Me, since August '87, but I've caught up on all the back issues since...

Jeez, that's quite a while now.
I mainly collect comic books, but have never really tried to get into the whole 2000ad thing. I bought my first Prog this morning, just to try it out.
Do you only read this stuff?
At the risk of being blunt here, you don't seem to know much about the comic or its contents.
If you're serious about submitting your work to a publisher, then you should research your market. Which means reading the comic - as many issues as possible, ideally - so you know what the format is, what Future Shocks are, and what kind of style of material the editors are (or aren't) looking for.
(Pay attention to GordonR - he's one of 2000AD's main writers, although he's not in this weeks' prog)
Hey GordonR,
I am aware of the fact that I need to research the market before submitting anything. I asked the question because I did not know much about this specific publication and merely had a question to ask.
Steve.

Ha ha,
Nice one ... that's almost as long as I've been alive!
Wow! I'm over 73.9 million seconds old!
Sorry, should have been:
Wow! I'm over 739 million seconds old!
(Damn full stop decimal points!)
Been reading it 7858 days, 2 hours, 31 minutes and 34 seconds for me.
And I don't think it too many!
(Does that qualify for the other thread?)
Have to say, being a frusrtated writer type myself, I would be quite fecked off if someone who has never read a prog (much less suffered Soul Sisters without complaint) got a script accepted. Especailly as none of mine bloddy are!
As well as Future Shocks (and beware every sf cliche has already been done in other FSs years ago)Terror Tales (though try and do better than this week's effort ;))there are Past Imperfects (Alternate History stories)

Thanks mate,
Getting initial assumptions aside, I am not the inexperienced comic geek everyone seemed to think I was.
I'm glad there are one or two friendly voices on this site.
Thanks for the input about the stories too.
Steve
And if you do return to the board watch out for that evil trout. He's evil you know.
You have to join my cultif you want to use this site. Everyone here is a member they just wont admit it.
I'm soulless butnot really evil (long story). Before submitting study several tales discover patterns then do something better. It's a sure-fire recipe for success.
If you need a co-writer (read:leech) I'm available...

I am indeed evil.
Thank you, demonic poultry boy.
And Jared, shouldn't you be called Toadfish? (You foolish cult of one)

Come now, that's unfair. He's one of the biggest Cults I've ever met.
