Just seen this on the
The Intense Art of Simon Bisley facebook page
QuoteSimon called today to pass on his best wishes for a Happy Christmas and is looking forward to seeing you guys at the various shows that he will be attending in the new year.
He also dropped some bombshell news that I can reveal exclusively to all of you loyal Biz fans. Next year Simon is starting work on a brand new, 60 page story for 2000AD, featuring none other than Joe Pineapples from The ABC Warriors! This is a return to the coolest character that Simon made his own in his comic's debut back in '88. Simon is currently working out the details with the great Pat Mills, who is returning for script duties, the artwork will be fully painted and a real labour of love.
That's very exciting news indeed :D
I am literally beside myself at this news....speachless. Bring it on!!! Z
Oh happy Christmas CF and by default to the Biz as well.
Excellent! Love Bisley's work on warriors. Reads like it might be a stand alone tale for Joe?
Met the Biz during the summer and got the start and end progs of the Horned God signed. A fine big garrulous fella. Z
While I'm not the biggest fan of his work of late this is certainly interesting news and given his previous work on ABC Warriors something to look forward to. Wonder where it fits into Pat's current ABC stuff?
I loved Simon Bisley and the legendary SMS's sublime efforts on the ABC Warriors Black Hole story. It was a reinvention of the medium. Z
Zoinks!
Holy, bloody, flip! :)
Oh yus yus yus yus!!!!! :D
Can I be greedy and ask that it's going to be fully painted?
Now there's a nice Christmas present!

Internet says "full painted" (sic).
You can ask it most anything.
YESSS!
Excellent news! Joe P has always been my favourite 2000ad character and Biz one of my top artists. His Joe defined the character for me. (No disrespect to the other artists intended, of course).
Cracking news
Kev Walkers lingerie wearing joe was always my favourite even though I was about thirteen and I'm sure my father had his doubts about me when he glanced at it.Great news to hear the Biz is coming back to 2000AD.Try to keep him this time Tharg.
I started a topic about this on general, feel free to delete it if it is breaching any types of rules...
Anyways here's a couple of Joe pages from my original comic art collection to get everyone in the mood!

Always lovely seein these, Ken.
Jaw dropping news about Biz returning to ABC Warriors- something I would have never thought possible.
If memory serves, he last published work on the character(s) was a Joe Pineapples pin-up in a mid 90's sci- fi special.
Nerdgasm! Cool news indeed.
Hopefully we'll see this in a future volume of the Mek Files - stick it with all the stuff collected in 'solo missions' and you've got a pretty decent collection!
Joe in lingerie is my all-time favourite prog cover.

I wonder if we're going to get the Return to Ro-busters before this?
The Joe Pineapples is its own thing presumably?
That's a mighty big cloth & can of Mr Sparkle to polish the turd that is the ABC Warriors. Hopefully the series will be able to extract itself from it's huge backside that it's dissappeared up.
...sorry if you are eating your tea folks...
;)
Glad you felt the need to express that opinion.

How wrong can you get?
Very wrong apparently! :o
I will admit to having little love for both the Volgan War volumes and Return to Earth. But everything collected in the first two Mek Files (covering Meknificent seven up to Hellbringer) and Return to Mars where phenomenal and I can't wait to see The Third Element, Medusa Wars and Shadow Warriors in hardback.
Well the Volgan war chronicles aren't as bad as Reaper to be fair. Mind you that'd be saying something. Langleys photorealistic art actually suits robots, the difficulty is when it comes to portrayl of humans. The more art based excerpts dione bu Langley are on the other hand excellent. The plot has become rather Byzantine but I can live with that convolution. Z
My favourite Joe Pineapples stuff is when he's a detective on the robot planet. I'd love to see a flashback story set in that era. Failing that, sniper Joe who only talks in code.
Another smashing piece by Ryan Brown.

I actually thought those few Hellblazers he did the interior art for were really nice. The only problem being his inability to stop himself from giving John Constantine the body of a Greek god, which wont be as distracting here.
I seem to remember an interview where he said he regrets giving the Warriors human-style muscles; and wishes he'd gone for a more mechanical look instead. Me, I hope he changes his mind - the godlike muscles brought a whole new level of amazingness to the strip. His Joe Pineapples was probably the biggest departure from tradition; but it has now become the definitive Joe (though I also liked the way he made Hammerstein's helmet removeable, revealing the Arnie-like angular face and crew-cut).

Quite brilliant indeed! :o
Particularly like how it looks like Bisley painted by Kev Walker. Don't know if that was intentional, but it works!

In my opinion the first series of ABC Warriors is right up there with early Slaine (upto end of the Horned God) and the first few books of Nemesis as the absolute best of 2000AD ever.
( Dredd and Stront not withstanding).
You may not be too far off the mark my friend. It was incredible. Z
Great news!!! :)
nothing but love for all the ABC Warriors stuff. Seminal characters and never read a duff tale with them. Always had top notch artists too. Doesn't matter if it's Flint's scratchy madness or Langley's polished chrome... It's all top thrill power. So many good moments, a series that could rival Dredd for 'best' lists...
