Title: ShoreLine Films
Post by: Matt on 18 January, 2002, 04:12:42 PM
I've just finished reading the synopsis for both the Dredd movies. H'mmm, Dredd Reckoning sounds the better of the two. Not sure about Possession yet. Feels like there are two many corner cutting devices in the plot. Death hell bent on bringing justice to the Undercity. Why the Undercity and not Mega City One? 'Cos the Undercity is just New York, costs less to reproduce than the Big Meg as it already exists! The possession of Anderson cuts down on special effects budgets as Death will be on screen for less time. That's if Death is actually going to be an alien superfiend. It's not mentioned in the treatment. He could be just an overzealous judge. Only time will tell.

i think if these movies are popular enough to warrant sequels, we should go straight for 'dredd on the street breaking heads'.

These stories really sound quite nice, but it could be even nicer to have some traditional Dredd on the streets.  And they'd have more money, too.

They already made that film but for some reason decided to call it Robocop?!?

true, but not as a dead wreck of a city with a whopping great roof above it. that'd costa shit load to create in anycase. and as for just filming in new york...well aside from london NY is one of the busiest locations for shooting movies and the price for shooting the whole movie there would be far in excess of  creating a fake city using cgi and set peices.

If they want to make the film better than the Stallone movie, then skimping on the special effects and sets is NOT the way to go! Judge dredd is britains most popular comic character and therefore deserved he same kind of quality care and budget that Spiderman and the X-men recieved.

Having a lead actor than can say "I AM THE LAW" without making it sound as though he recently suffered a major stroke would be a bonus.

Sorry Scojo, but when I came back to my machine after the xmas break I had about 300 posts waiting for me in my in-box, so I just binned the lot. Your post must have been one of them. Do you mind going over your opinions again just for my benefit?

Sure Matt.

The story doesn't need Kraken in it cos that is Rico all over again.
The plot sounds like the original screenplay anyway. Dredd sentenced for a crime he didn't commit and so on. Heshey loving Dredd is unnecessary.

I think Dredd should have no doubts in a first movie too. He should be resolute in his beliefs. Dredd should be (almost) as he is in the comic. One dimensional where possible. No emotions please we're judges!

They should concentrate the story within MC 1, not the Under City, Hestia, Titan, Aspen or Hampstead Heath in London.

Show the city, its citizens, culture etc.

The sequel should have all 4 dark judges in it  (budget allowing) as we may never see the other 3 judges if they only make 2 films. It would make for a stronger movie. Death should still be the main villian though.

Anderson should not be pregnant and the Cursed Earth and Under city elements are not needed.
I also think there should be more to the story than just the 4 dark judges coming to judge the city. Can't say anymore on that cos it's top secret!:O

If Shoreline and Rebellion can recreate MC 1 and the four dark judges on a budget of $28 million, I think that's the way to go.
