When a movie becomes a blockbuster, everyone wants a sequel (especially those movie moguls). In most cases the sequel to put it bluntly sucks. When was the last time we had a sequel that was worthy of its predecessor? When was the last time a sequel surpasses its predecessor?
This is a simple question which was the best sequel ever?
- The Empire Strikes Back
- The Wrath of Kahn
- Aliens
- The Dark Knight
- Superman II
- Terminator 2
- Top Gun Maverick
- What about? <Movie Name> (My Little Pony: A New Generation does not count people)
From this list, Terminator 2.
Personally, you can't beat Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Added as an option as well: Mad Max 2
While Empire, T2 and Aliens are all great Rogue Judge is right and
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
is the correct answer
Toy Story 2.
Dredd 2? No? Oh well.
Mad Max 2 it is then.
I think there is a limited list of sequels that are not just worthy of the original, but actually better:
The Road Warrior > Mad Max
Hour of the Gun > Gunfight at the OK Corral
Bride of Frankenstein > Frankenstein
Toy Story 2 > Toy Story
Sanjuro > Yojimbo
The Empire Strikes Back > New Hope
The Godfather Part II > The Godfather
After The Thin Man > The Thin Man
From Russia With Love > Dr No (does this count as a sequel?)
Lethal Weapon 2 > Lethal Weapon
Police Story 2 > Police Story
*The Wrath of Khan > Star Trek The Motion Picture
* bonus points for being a superior sequel to the ST episode Space Seed
If you want me to pick one from this list, I will go for the film that took the kernel of an idea from the original and expanded it in the most interesting way: Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior
paddington 2!
The correct answer is indeed Mad Max 2.

Addams Family Values
Dawn of the Dead
Evil Dead 2
X2 (aka X-Men 2)
John Wick 2

Fritt Vilt II
I had to google that one my Norwegian is not up too standard but the title almost sounded German.
Terminator 2
Return of the Killer Tomatoes! - sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (but the sequel had George Clooney in a before-they-were-famous role).
That isn't my vote.
I see your Fritt Villt 2 and raise you a Død snø 2: red vs dead
Wednesday is the last day to choose your cooler movie. So far it looks like a mad result
Mutiny on the Buses.
Aliens
Yeah, it's Aliens.
++SPOILERS++
It's not that it's better than Alien, necessarily (and, contextually, it really helps if you've seen them in order - because then your fear and Ripley's, at the outset, are well matched). What marks it out is that it's an entirely different genre. It honors the setting and the characters of the original - it even expands on it (by having the same villain - the Weyland-Yutani Corporation), but it still does something fresh and original.
I really dislike a lot of sci-fi movies. There's a tendency to pop people in a spaceship and then have them all go crazy - because they're too near the sun, or too near the edge of reality - there's an entire genre of "people going slightly mad in space" movies that I just find utterly boring. What we need is more space marines exclaiming "stop your grinnin' and drop your linen"!
Or, "we're all pretty strung out, but let's stay frosty". Or "what are we supposed to use: harsh language?" Or "in the pipe, five-by-five". Or "look into my eye". Almost every other line belongs in the gung-ho quote book - it may just be the most quotable movie in history.
All of this is before you get to the fact that you're watching one of the most accomplished (if not the best) sci-fi, action-thriller in existence. Meet the team of ultimate bad-asses! Now watch the team get fucked up in short order - flame-throwing each other, dissolving in acid splash, screaming in the darkness. "Well, we're in some pretty shit now!" Don't worry - even though Ripley was correct - IQs had suddenly dropped while she was in hypersleep - she's got the chutzpah to pull their fat out of the fryer. "Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
Fuck, what a kick-ass movie.
Aliens. What Funt said.
A certain alien movie tried its best but at the end a mad vote was good enough

Ts'right
The Humungus would be pleased!
The Road Warrior is the perfect apocalyptic western.
