Round 3 heads towards its conclusion and things aren't getting any easier. It's time to start thinking about how hard Round 4 is gonna be cos lets face it as we near having just 64 thrills left we know they are all (well almost all) gonna be beauties and the tough ties we see this week will be the regular head scratchers in a couple of weeks time. Arh remember how easy Round 2 was!
Round 3 does still have glorious oddities like this tie. Tharg vs Ichabod such utterly different thrills and tones which just goes to show the far corners the Galaxies Greatest has stretched into. Tharg the Mighty has form having had to overcome Universal Soldier and Tor Cyan. Mind Ichabod didn't have it all its own way in a match up with Mechastopheles in Round 2. Here, well I think we have a clear favourite, lets see...

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.
Match ends early on the morning of Thursday 23rd June and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).
What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)
For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)
Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN

Some Tharg stories are fun and include some great artistic talent, but do they have the staying power to continue further? Methinks not...Ichabod Azrael for the next round.
As I've said in previous rounds, bar some nice art I really don't see the appeal of the Tharg stories, which always seemed out of place and self-indulgent in the Prog. The recent feature-length one baffled me. So many pages taken up by a middling strip that could have been cut in half.
I increasingly realise Ichabod was quite divisive in some ways, but if it doesn't win out here, that really will be a case of nostalgia winning out against objective quality.
Tharg the Mighty.

Gonna be mighty upset if Ichabod doesn't walk away with this tie!
I like the dynamic of Tharg being an arsehole and the droids being put-upon but no great drama has been wrung from that set-up as yet.
tharg the mighty
Ichabod
Ichabod Azrael
The Lethal Laziness of Lobelia Loam is a formidable story from Tharg the Mighty that still holds it's power but come on
...it has to be Ichabod
Ichabod Azrael
Although I've yet to read the whole thing, from what I have read Ichabod Azrael was great.
Tharg the Mighty.
Despite a nostalgic fondness for Revenge of the Thrill-Suckers, this goes to The Grievous Journey of Ichabod Azrael (and the Dead Left in His Wake) - epic western poetry in comic form.
Ichabod is excellent in all regards - the premise, the story, the scratchy black & white art... but I know which side my bread is buttered on so it's going to have to be Tharg the Mighty.
Please send me five pounds and a KTT, O Mighty One.
Ichabod
Seems pretty clear whose going to be riding into the sunset that is Round 4, but this one is certainly not all one way traffic so who knows what this last day will bring, well Tomorrow knows...
VOTING CLOSED
Pretty straight forward, but not all one way. Its good to see great modern(ish) thrill wiping away nostaglia around fun but superflous thrills - even ones about the Mighty One himself away.
Ichabod Azrael
Will still not be getting it full title in Round 4.
The Grievous Tourney Schedule of Colin YNWA (and the Boarders' Brain Cells Left in His Wake)
"superfluous thrills"???!!!
quaequam blag!
increasingly concerned for ye, colin, and for the very future of our beloved tournament - what with all the multitudes of rigelian hotshots that are doubtless heading your way ...
