One if the problems with the alien franchise is how fixated it is on one kind of alien. Sovereign's rein takes the working class space farer in a survival situation up against an entirely alien world. Part Miyazaki, part möbius, part brink, all brilliant.
Highly recommended.

It's amazing. Sucks more than a little that HBO didn't want to go on with it but it's great that more people are getting to see it now.
I've watched a few and I'm enjoying it. I like the way they've figured out a truly alien ecology. And they don't hold back! The Hollow alien is disturbing, with its lack of expression and ruthless exploitation of Kamen. Looks a bit like No-face in Spirited Away.
Heavy nods to Miyazaki as you say - Nausicaa especially.
Soundtrack's familiar. Interstellar maybe?
Just watched the trailer for this, looks very interesting. Normally don't watch much animated series but will give this one a go certainly.
Scavenger's Reign - just finished the first (only) season, it's pretty gripping throughout. I like the way the creators have woven so many ways flora and fauna could predate or parasitise a human and come up with so many alien species to do it! Especially liked the nod to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Also liked the organic / machine melding stuff. The female leads Azi and Ursula were great, well acted. The spider parasite was pretty disgusting. In fact a lot of it is kind of gross! Lots of "whaaat" moments. And it makes you care about the characters. Definite recommend.
Yeah just finished this last night and it's excellent. Reminded me a lot of the Worlds Of Aldebaran comics with it's alien ecology building. Shame there isn't more.
