The further adventures of Joey Longbody!
It's still very ugly, no matter how flashy the editing. They can call it 'graphic novel' style all they want, it still looks like a four year old Unreal mod. There's nothing aesteticly pleasing about those skins to a gamer or a Dredd fan.
I recall talk a couple of years ago of being able to choose different styles of Judges based on several popular artists' interpretations. Obviously that was soon dropped, but it's a shame they didn't attempt to recreate any interpretation. Looks like they went with the fugliest looking Judges ever. We can hope they've been more focused on the gameplay.
Looks like I'm going to get the oportunity to shout "Arg! 'kinnel!" and leg it in panic from burning bad guys I've recently set on fire again, which was one of Aliens v Predators strongest points.
It is certainly great to see Dredd in computer form. Hopefully there will be some more previews before the game is published so we can get a batter hang on the situations, locations and characters involved.
Does anybody know if there will be a comic tie-in to the game, maybe playing off Gordon Rennie's novelisation?

I can't fecking download it!
Not that there's anything wrong with the file, you understand, It's just that I'm in work, and they've got the PCs locked down tighter than a gnat's chuff. I'm lucky to be able to see the board. < sniff > .
>will this be able to play ONLINE?
Yup, up to 32 players over a number of different multiplayer modes and levels, across LAN or online.
I can't wait for this bad boy. Looks fecking awesome if you ask me. Let's hope it plays better than it's MegaDrive & ZX Spectrum predecessors! Love the idea of having to sentence perps rather than just blow the shit out of everybody on screen. I see we only get a sneaky peek of Death at the very end. Does that mean we're gonna see him come back from the Cursed Earth? I seem to remember that the game will tie in to current Dredd continuity. So whats next Rebellion, I assume you're waiting to see how well this game sells, but assuming it does, what games can we expect to see next. Will we have to wait as long as we've waited for this one? And will Mk13 ever get any work done again if he's playing this against the rest of the editorial staff.
I'd certainly be very keen on a Strontium Dog game, with each level a different bounty. A level based on classic SD stories, maybe, such as The Killing, Stone Killers, Bubo And The Bad Boys, etc?

>>I seem to remember that the game will tie in to current Dredd continuity
I'm afraid it doesn't, but it would be rather difficult to do so anyway. While Dredd continuity keeps moving on, the game's storyline would have been fixed sometime last year, and there could have been no way of knowing that far in advance what the continuity situation would be in the comic strips when the game comes out this September/October.
In the novelisation I'm writing, I've deliberately set the story in 2022 - three years ago, in Dredd continuity terms - to explain at least one major anomoly between what happens in the game and what's happened in the comic strip within the last year or so.
It's probably worth pointing out that the book is a novelisation of the Dredd computer game rather than being an original Dredd novel (if you see what I mean) but wherever possible I've tried as much as I can to tie the story into DRedd universe continuity.
>>I've deliberately set the story in 2022
oops. that should read 2122, of course.

A comicstrip version of a novelisation of a computer game of a comicstrip?

It could be a one-shot publication much like the Dredd movie adaptation, or the Batman Vs. Judge Dredd series? Maybe sell it - amongst other places - in computer games shops?

Maybe they could do a Big Finish audio version too, based on the comic strip adaption of the novelisation of the computer game of the....
You never know if the comic adaptation of the novelisation of the computer game of the comic strip sells well then they could turn it into a computer game.
Gordon, will your adaptation of the computer game be as memorable as the Urban Strike one? Mother funster!
I know I'm pretty much a lone voice in the wilderness here, but I actually liked the Urban Strike strip.
It had a knowing sense of humour about it, quite aware of how gung-ho and ludicrious the premise of the Strike games was, and was quite blatantly taking the piss out of whole cheesy computer game tie-in comic strip thing.
And it had helicopters flying through underground railway tunnels several years before the idiotic finale of the first Mission Impossible film.
The running gag with the nun was also quite funny, I thought.
Just thinking aloud, here, but given that it would at least make an attempt to tie-in to that all-important continuity, isn't it feasible to make a Role Playing Game based upon the comic spin-off of the novel which is based upon a computer-game which ties-in to 2000AD?
WOOHOO!!! Looks splendid!
Hells bells!! Can I just play the game please?
Sort of agree with Carnivore. The graphics arn't that special (though still good). Dredd seems a bit thin. Should have gone for a Jock type design.
Still, cool to see Dredd moving about/Riding Bike etc...
Don't know about anyone else here but I wouldn't mind seeing a short animated film using these graphics.
Looking forward to the game. Anyone got a release date?
can we play online?
Yup, up to 32 players over a number of different multiplayer modes and levels, across LAN or online
oh my i think i just wet myself.
Wet yourself?
Whatever happened to Steve L'enfant Terrible?
I know I'm pretty much a lone voice in the wilderness here, but I actually liked the Urban Strike strip.
NOW GORDON. i really enjoy your work. but please dont make such statements.in the same thread as you talk about your own script based on the game.
and also there are lurkers here who may not realise you did not write the urban strike script.
always good to clarify such things.
Ah, I now see where these garbled film synopses have come from.
Coming soon, Judge Dredd, based upon the comicbook based upon the role-playing game based upon the audio play based upon the novelisation based upon the computer game based upon the comic book, Judge Dredd. Don't forget to read the graphic novelisation of the movie written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Byrne.
