Folks - can someone refresh my memory? How many years ahead of us is the Dredd world? Something like 122, IIRC?
Any help appreciated.
Yep -122
It is currently 2125ad in Dredd time.

Watch, thanks me ole mucker.
Caliber - 2003 + 122 is indeed 2125, so good work.
The way I remember it is that 2000AD started in 1977, and the early Dredd stories were in 2099, before the turn of the century.
Wake
The way I remember it is by looking at that little box with the story details in under Thargs column in every issue for the last goodness knows how long.
Dredd years....Are these sort of like dog years, but in reverse, where for every one of our years, only a quarter of a tear goes past for Dredd (or possibly even less).
WOD
I think Dredd began with a timeframe that did not tally up with the 122 year scheme; not sure when that was initiated.

'The Cursed Earth' was set in 2100, iirc.
More question weirdness, if anyone can help:
The 'Black Atlantic' seperates MC1 from what was once Europe et al. What has the Pacific ocean become?
The only mention of the Pacific is in Oz IIRC - it was mostly unpolluted - dolphins larking and such.... Might also have been touched upon in Shimura, or that Shimura Dredd story with the Coral city....?
To quote Chopper:
"Out here where the vastness of the Pacific has almost washed away the ravages of Man's wars and the sea is blue and the air is almost clear"
Ta very mooch.
its always been 122 years, 1977 + 122 = 2099. When Dredd was on Luna 1 and the geezer went futsie (22nd Century Futzie Prog 45) as the fire works went off and Luna 1 celebrated it becoming 2100, we saw that as our year progressed so did Dredd's.

Would anyone like to see flahback stories set just after Dredd graduated? Imagine a fitter, leaner Dredd, dishing out justice.
We had that recently in the Megazine. A story set when Chief Judge Goodman was still alive. A few historical blunders but a good story none-the-less. I for one wouldn't mind if they did more.

I would Ratty.
Joe was possitively stick-like in the begining- not forgeting the fuller lips and the much smaller chin.
Anyone got a graphic?
Yeah, it's always been 122 years- it's just that when we were juves the years seemed to last longer.

Wasn't monkey on my back set just before the day the law died?
No early McMahon image to hane but have a Rufus pic from Courtroom, the rejected first Dredd story by Jack Adrian. Rufus is as close to early McMahon as you?ll ever get without a time machine.

Mega City One was all trees and fields in Prog 1.
I thought it was a stab at pre-prog 2 Dredd.
Not retro enough for me in the end- maybe it would be an idea for next time if anyone/all concerned made more of an effort to capture the general feel of Dredd's salad days.
Mr. Dayglo proved it's possible.

'its always been 122 years, 1977 + 122 = 2099.'
I compiled a very detailed Dredd tmeline just over a year since which brought up some questions concerning the timeframe of certain very early stories which did not fall neatly into the +122 year formula.
Am I imaging it, or where some stories set after the first Dredd strip set in 2098, not 2099? Probably typos - if my memory is correct [which is not a cert to be sure]

There have been a few mistakes which are just typos or the artists fault a quick example that comes to mind from the history research ive been doing for John.
Prog 21: The Solar Sniper (Gerry Finley-Day. Art: Ron Turner) Although the text box says 2099AD the artwork has the date as 24th February 2090 in two places.
there are a number of these but in the end they'll go down as typos or artists mistakes and John will just ignore them.

Spur: are you working on a Dredd tale/novel?
Perish the thought.
I can remember the aggro dome was set in 2120. A massive jump in years at the time.
Aggro Dome appeared in Prog 183 printed on the 25th October 1980 + 122 years gives you 2102.

But I thought the date given in the strip itself was 2120. Do you have the prog to hand. Mr Logan?

Got the
Bad Science reprint next to the loo at the moment and its reprinted in that:

and it opens; Mega-City One. August 2102 A.D.
now it could have been chaged and cant check the Prog til the morning.

Yeah, it was changed.
