Here's some news about the forthcoming novelization of Dredd vs Death by the mighty Gordon Rennie.
The book has started shipping out to stores in the UK and US, prior to its release at the start of September. All good bookshops, comic stores, online, etc etc.
Meanwhile, The Black Flame website has just launched, and it includes further details of Gordon's book - plus a downloadable taster in the form of a free chapter. We'd be interested to hear what you think.

Ah, now I'm starting to grasp how this message board thing works. Hem-hem.
That link which doesn't work because I'm plainly doing something wrong: www.blackflame.com
can anyone else not get the free sample download?

Pop an "http://" in before the "www"s...

How embarrassing!
I'll try that again...

then go toi the site, click on the free sample and I get a box appearing saying that it cant downoad the PDF.
Logan.
I'd love to read the taster but - yuck! - it's a Flash site. Can't do them from work so it'll have to wait until I'm home.
(Mutter mutter no good reason to use Flash ever, just pointless making things unavailable to everyone for no good reason mutter.)
WANT!
GIMMIE!
I can't get the Freddy vs Jason sample either, not that I'm interested in that. The /pdf/ directory exists, but either the files aren't there or there's a whole lotta misnaming going on.
fix it. want. gimmie. etc.
I've e-mailed Black Flame so hopefully they'll sort it out.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
Well, that's a great start, isn't it?
The website works if you type in the URL, but the PDF file has somehow gone astray.
Our web guy is fixing things as we speak (sound of hammering) and hopefully our embarrassment and shame won't continue too much longer...
Think the books have gone to the sellers through some weird time warp:
"Availability: we are currently unable to offer this title. It may be out of stock with the publisher or out of print." from a certain popular book seller.
Out of print already. Damn, that book must be good. I'm off to borrow a time machine so I can get one.
The PDF is gettable now.
Thanks for fixing it.
That recalcitrant PDF file is now available for download -- hurrah! Thanks for your patience, and your very polite emails to Black Flame HQ :-)
Let us know what you think.
I've downloaded the PDF, but can't open the PDF file. ho-hum [yes, I do have Adobe Acrobat!]

Very very nice :)
The start is ACE! Well done Mr Rennie!
I'm off on my holidays on Friday so if I can grab a copy before then I'll be a very, very happy bloke! I can read it on the plane then pretend to read it on the beach whilst perving at the ladies. Yay!

The free sample download is Chapter seven.
Pete - it's not published until September!
Well, I'm not sure what I expected, but this reads like one of those text stories you used to get in the annuals, and that's not saying much.
Still, novelisation of a computer game, was probably bashed out in a couple of weeks, eh Mr R?

Look forward to the reply to this.
La Placa Rifa,

Me too.

Come off it guys. While I am interested in hearing anything he may have to say about it, I'll be very surprised if he did it for any other reason than the folding green.
Oddboy said "Pete - it's not published until September!"
But Marco Blokey said "The book has started shipping out to stores in the UK and US, prior to its release at the start of September."
Bugger! I took that to mean the book was being released early. Got meself all excited too...
Well if you work at a book shop you might be able to nab one from the store cupboard...
>Still, novelisation of a computer game, was probably bashed out in a couple of weeks, eh Mr R?
but... but... computer game novelisations are the height of literary achievement! That's what Spurrious keeps telling me anyway...
btw is that Freddy vs Jason some special 'On the move' version?
"but... but... computer game novelisations are the height of literary achievement! That's what Spurrious keeps telling me anyway... "
Shuddup and get back on your chair, OrangeTangoboy.
I think it reads a damn sight better than the text stories we used to get, and even the Virgin novels from 10 years ago. Rennie is obviously at ease in the Dredd World and tells the tale with an eyebrow raised and tongue ever so slightly in cheek, along with the obligitory random acts of bizarre violence (the story not Mr Rennie).
I will be buying the book, and expect nothing more from it than a decently told Dredd tale constricted by whatever hackneyed, ill-thought-out storyline Rebellion have imposed.
Anyone any idea what other novels might be in the pipelne? I presume there will be a few Dreed offerings, but what about some Strontium Dog or Rogue Trooper books? Or even a Chronos Carnival trilogy?
Black Flame are just in the process of signing up for six more novels for the full launch in April 04.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
Hi to nick coyle, are you a fan of Chronos Carnival? even if you had your tongue in cheek why does everyone bash it? i thought it was great, and is there really an unprinted story?
No i am not a Chronos Carnival fan. Unfortunately everyone has their own least favourite story in the Galaxy's greatest, and I just thought that Chronos Carnival was utter utter shite. A chronos Carnival novel would for me be about as welcome as kick in the nads. I think Sinister Dexter might work quite well in novel form though. What would other people like to see?
Suzie Dent in a thick wooly dressing gown waking me up with a cup of Assam to hand. What would you like to see?
I'd like ot see a big pile of money with a nakid Servelan and Peri lezzing it up on top
David - in this Sci-Fi world we live in, it's more likely to be Arthur Dent in his dressing gown waking you up with a cup of tea, telling you "We're all going to die, aren't we?"
