Title: His Dad is the law
Post by: Something Fishy on 19 August, 2003, 03:17:29 PM
Caliber in "Dredd is my dad" shocker.

A stunned world woke up today to find that the son of legendary lawman Judge Joe Dredd walks amongst us.

John "Dredd" Caliber refused to comment except to say "Judging by the physical state of my dad [65], Dredd is well overdue for retirement!"

You read it here first folks!!

Sir, you are clearly misappropraiting Calibers words for comedy effect.

Any fool knows that Caliber tanslates into 'Son of Cal'.

No, no, NO!  I'm saying that, clearly, Dredd is the love child of Dredd and Dredd.

It's the age old problem with any story that involves time travel - obviously, one day Dredd will travel back into the past to impregnate his former self (using the test tube method shown in 'Al's Baby'), who in turn will travel further back in time in order to give birth to twins (himself and his brother Rico) in 2066, dying during childbirth.

Obviously, Rico then uses the time machine when he's old enough to travel forward in time in order to murder his father in the future before he's had a chance to go back in time in order to impregnate his brothers future self in the past (which is Rico's future).

Clearly, this is the reason that Dredd was forced to apprehend Rico and send him to Titan - he knows that one day in the future his brother will kill him, having travelled to the future from the past to kill him in the present, which is Dredd's future and Rico's past.

I hope that's made things perfectly clear!

Perfectly clear..

So Caliber is the first of the line, created by the last of the line , as it were?

No, Caliber is no longer part of the equation.

Look, it's perfectly straightforward. I'll explain again.

Dredd, sometime in his own future (which is also our future, but not the future of Johnny Alpha - obviously, it would be in his past, but still the present of the future Dredd, and Johnny Alpha would come from his future, BUT Wulf's future before he'd met the past Johnny Aplha of the future and gone into the future from the past, although this would be in Johnny Alpha?s past) Dredd will travel back in time with the intent of impregnating his past self (presumably, sometime in the future of the current Dredd stories but still in the past of the Dredd of the future, but the present of the Dredd that the future Dredd wants to impregnate).

The future Dredd uses the ?Al?s Baby? method to impregnate his past self (still in his present but in the future of the current time line), but also decides to regress his age back to a foetus and implants himself into his past self so he can be born again.

Dazed, the Dredd from the future that the Dredd from the further future has impregnated (now baring what seems to be identical twins ? an unborn Dredd and the Dredd from the future who has travelled into the past and regressed his age) accidentally activates the Dredd from the further futures time machine and ends up in 2066 (both his own past and the past of the present Dredd strips, although far in the future of Bill Savage), where he gives birth to identical twins before dying.

The new born twins are named Joe and Rico (who is really the Dredd from the future) and are enrolled in the Academy. However, sometime during the Academy years Rico (really the Dredd from the future, remember, now stranded in the past of his present) decides that it would no longer suit his purposes and uses the time machine that the Dredd from the future who was impregnated by the Dredd from the far future to travel back into the future (but actually his own past) to before the Dredd from the future had gone back in time to his past in order to impregnate his younger self.  Rico manages to kill the Dredd of the future (his own past self) in the future before he has a chance to return to the past (the future of the present stories) and impregnate his past self (who is a future version of Dredd, remember).

Rico returns to the past (the past of the current Dredd strips but the future of now, but the present of the Dredd at the Academy) and completes his time at the Academy, but sometime the Dredd of the past (the real son of the Dredd of the future who was impregnated by the Dredd of the far future - in other words, the Dredd he thinks is his own brother Rico, actually the Dredd from the far future who has regressed his age and is growing up at the same rate as his own past self in his own past) discovers what Rico has done (travelled into the future to kill his future self, although this is the past self of Rico) and sends him to Titan.

Rico returns 20 years later, but is killed by Dredd, who never realises that Rico is his own future self who has travelled into the past.

NOW is it clear?

No that would be Fargo, who may (or may not) be a future version of Dredd who has travelled into the past (from the future but his present) in order to be cloned into...

Oh, no! I've gone all cross eyed...
