Title: PSW Dredd Vs Death review
Post by: Leigh S on 28 August, 2003, 05:53:59 PM
Gives it a 7

Generally positive, but suffers from a lack of variety apparently....

Variety be damned! As long as it's got Dredd busting punks in a violent manner it should be OK.
The format's held up pretty well pretty for the last quarter century in the comic...

I guess I'm going to buy this in secret, behind my girlfriend's back.  Oh the infidelity.  She's  right you know, playing computer games is a waste of time and energy.  But it is fun.

She approves of my comic reading and my comic ambitions (just in case you got the wrong impression from my furtive videogaming).

Why is it that passively watching a TV, especially costume dramas,is deemed an acceptable way to pass an apres work evening but interacting with a computer game is deemed sad? or is it just a boy/girl thing?

If you've got the answer tell me, I've lost this 'discussion' too often...

No idea, to be honest. I wonder whether it's got anything to do with the interactivity and the essentially solitary nature of gameplaying - TV, for all its faults, is a fairly social medium; people gather round, chat through programs, talk about what they're watching...
With the exception of the more multi-player games (and often adventure/puzzle games) this really doesn't happen with gaming - partners/family/friends are kind of excluded from the process.

It is all to do with isolation/exclusion, plus the addictive nature of a good game.  If you are in a relationship with someone you must exclude them to play a video game, and you often cannot/will not break off from the game - it makes demands that, say reading a book does not do.

Just as a followup on the above posts:

Last year I picked up a copy of Silent Hill 2 for the PS2. I was living with my brother & his friend at the time, and the game became a regular fixture every evening for the next fortnight, with each of us taking turns to play the game. It's one of the few times that I've ever played a single-player game in this way, and it was one of my more memorable gaming experiences. IMO, adventures particularly lend themselves to this - there's something fun about having several people working at puzzles and trying to figure out what to do next.

...and the shit-your-pants atmosphere of Silent Hill had *absolutely* nothing to do with it, of course ;-)

"Variety be damned!"

You got that right! What does the guy want. Song and dance routines? The odd comedy sketch? Watch Dredd balance a slug on his top lip while singing Roll out the barrel? Eh? Eh? Where's me mega-washboard?

so is the reviewer a lapsed squaxx or is it that good to non scrotts. thats the real question.

having not played the game yet, and only as most of us only seen the screen shots and trailer i will give it DD. rating of
99% with a 5 star rating.

It would be Extremely cool if you could play as Judge Mortis in multiplay or perhaps even Nemesis the Warlock

that would be cool

Always n forever

Nemesis

As I understand it, the PC version will be re-skinnable, so notionally, you could play as Mortis, Nemesis, or anyone else someone takes the time to design.

In other words, given the multiplayer options, it's feasible to finally have DREDD vs ALPHA (althouygh the former, obviously, gets the advantage of having his own gun).

83 and 85% on a flawed version?
Would have been interesting (maybe we still will) to see what % they would give the proper version.

Apparently according to IGN there is a multiplayer mode where you play as death and have his death touch thing......then when the person who plays as death is killed the person that offed him becomes death and so on.....kinda like a tag game

always

So are lots of people here getting the PC version? I was thinking of getting the PS2 game, but if there are going to be new skins then I'll buy the PC game. It's cheaper too! (skinflint Jake)
