Title: Thread Watching
Post by: Wake on 10 September, 2003, 07:19:39 PM
Since I no longer get every single post to this board emailed to me, I've been spurred into adding a thread watching function.

As before you can choose to receive every post, or all replies to your posts, by setting the options in the chat room. However, you can now select specific threads - and will receive every post to them via email, whether or not they are direct replies to your own posts.

Enjoy!

When Gary tested it, it didn't work, but now it does.

I've had this problem before (it's something that occured in the chat room, which is why I asked you to add the date and time to the message title).

For (probably a security reason) if you are using Outlook Express, and you recieve an email with a message title, and then get another with the same title (and possibly sender), and you haven't closed down OE, then it blocks the email, so, adding the date and time to each email message title, makes the title unique- and gets around this problem.

I'd suggest giving the message title the following format "Thread title: Posters name: Date: Time:" (as this would look nicer than just having the thread's unique ID number)

What if someone made two posts in one minute?

There would be Chaos!

CHAOS!!!

I'm eating a nice apple.

Well, as the time stamp includes seconds, it's unlikely that the same user can reply to the same thread within a second of each other, (and different people replying at the same time would be sorted out by inclduing the posters name).

Just checked something out, as a thread I was getting started making no sense (Prog 2004 thread) I never got DXB's latest post, but got the Trouts post which followed it (http://www.2000adonline.com/?zone=fan&page=message&choice=6176.0511221123).

(This occured after the changes you made this afternoon).

I've also noticed that on the site, I was still getting "Watch this thread" instead on "Stop watching..." buttons, but that might be because I changed email address- however I was still getting the emails even after I had changed the address.

I've noticed that. You don't always get all the replies.

I'm ashamed to say, however, that I'm glad you got my post over someone else's!
(Sorry, DXchum.)

I wish I had a nice apple. *sniff*
