Title: Classic Reprints
Post by: Mr C on 18 September, 2003, 05:45:25 PM
Just wondering what reprints people would like to see now that Rebellion are doing a "collection a month".
I'd love to see some classic Johnny Alpha, the Killing especially. The rest of the Nemesis books and some Zenith would be great too.

i personally think the current format of collected reprints. with the black covers and silver inlays. are bloody superb.
and reasonabley priced. i would like to see the  progs 1- 10 done in this format. the current soft cover is a bit of a let down i feel. the cover art  sucks also.

Zenith's been impossible for some time due to an ownership wrangle, C.

What is the situation with Zenith again?  Does Grant just think he owns it?

My take on it all (and this is all Watcher theorising, rather than the truth:)) is that although Grant was more than aware of the situation re rights when he signed up to write Zenith, he is either disputing the legality of the "cheque" system that operated back then (they didnt sign contracts giving away the copyright, but cheques issued by IPC would have a thing on the back saying that signing the cheque was tantamount to signing away your rights).  Either that, or he's asking Rebellion to come up with some paperwork that proves their ownership, and Rebellion can't (maybe because of the cheque thing).  I'd also read that when creators rights started to be looked at back around the start of Crisis, they sorted all this stuff out, with proper contracts and all, so maybe its just a case of lost paperwork making it difficult for Rebellion to 'prove' ownership?

....alledgedly

Yeh, as far as I can tell, Rebellion got all the rights (EXCEPT DAN DARE, GET OVER IT PEOPLE) to all the characters & it's just Grant being a knob.

Either way, just bloody release the damned book!!

Had no idea there was problems over ownership of Zenith, Wouldnt Morrison still get paid for the reprint though, I just dont know how it works. Damn shame they cant reprint it though cause its prob Morrisons best work for toof if not his best ever. Still do like current work on X-Men and Marvel Boy absolutly rocked.
He should stop being a greedy git and just free all phases of Zenith for reprint damn it, I've only read Phase 3 and think its some of the best shit about.

Isn't there some problem with phase 3 due to his use of other comic characters?
