Title: Ding, Ding! Round Two.
Post by: Last of the V8's on 11 October, 2003, 02:56:59 PM
Looks like the follow up to Freddy vs. Jason is going to be....v.s Ash.
Thats the Bruce Campbell character from the Evil Dead films.
This is apparently a serious notion on New Lines part.God forbid.

October 10: FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH confirmed

It?s true. FANGORIA has learned that New Line Cinema is seriously considering adding Ash (Bruce Campbell) to the inevitable FREDDY VS. JASON Round Two that the studio has in development. This is not some Internerd rumor, though the notion has been tabled out there in horror fandom for months. Sure, we?ve heard about other permutations for a follow-up to the blockbuster rumble (everything from FREDDY VS. JASON VS. LEATHERFACE to ?VS. CHUCKY to ?VS. MICHAEL), but the Ash scenario, evidently, is the only one that New Line is treating as a legitimate idea. We?ll keep you updated.

Is nothing sacred?!

I hope Bruce Campell says no and him and Sam hold out for another Dead movie one day.  All those other movies are tainted meat now, it would be a shame if Ash were involved with them.

Sadly everything gets fucked up in the end.

Right.

THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER DEAD FILM!
Already been said by Raimi, so no going back there then.

I think the idea of F v J v A is great!
All 3 characters have become parodies of themselves anyway, and F v J was enormous fun.
I for one hope these rumours are true, even if it is just to hear some more of Ash's wisecracks and cowardice in the face or mortal danger.

As for the other franchises being tainted meat, that may be true. But F v J proved that new life can be breathed into these characters, as long as care is taken.

These arent oscar winners by a long shot, just entertainment. And how entertaining would it be to see Ash going up against Freddy?
I know i'd like to see it!

When did he say that?  After the success of Spiderman he mentioned about trying to get another dead movie going.

I'd rather see the planned sequal to Bubba Hotep than FvJvA, and I've never seen Bubba Hotep!

Ash is a genuine human hero, I'd rather he kept away from the kiddy killers myself.

Anyway, I guess that will be up to Bruce.  I just hope his desire to play Ash again doesn't overcome his common sense.

Got the 'no new Dead film' news from the new documentaries on the new evil dead box set, and quotes from Bruce Campbells autobiography, 'If Chins Could Kill'. (Damn good read!!)

That may be out of date, though, so i could be utterly wrong!

Ps. seen some stills of Doc. Octopus from Spidey2......They fine!

I'm up for Wishmaster Vs The Ghoulies or Critters Vs Hannibal Lecter. That'd do me fine.

As for the FvJvAsh- the rumour has been around for months, as it says, but there's no way i can see Brucey agreeing to do it without Sam being involved. I played pool with Bruce and Sam just after ED3 opened and even back then bruce was quite clear on the matter that he'd never do an Evil Dead without Mr. Raimi.

After Spidey2 Raimi did say he wanted to do another horror movie- though I'm not sure if he ever explicitely said it would be ED4, or whether that was fan misinterpretation. He's doing 30 Days of Night now, isn't he? (Now THERE's an overrated comic if ever there was one).

Personally, after the shambles that was Army of Darkness, I'm not sure I WANT to see another one anyway. Leave my memories alone!

Who left school because Evil Dead 2 came out on video. Long story.

Yeah I liked Medieval dead too, had a fantastic time at the cinema watching it, and yes, the british cinema ending was best.  It's quite intersting that the first one was a really good horror movie (with a little comedy), the second was that sort of comedy/horror (that most decent horror movies degenerate with their sequals into) and the third one was a comedy with a little horror.  All very good, just a shame the second one wastes so much time retelling the first story.

I would love to see Freddy v Jason v Ash.

I also liked Freddy v Jason; it scored high on my patented "Godzilla" scoring system (see below).

The only problem I forsee is that Army of Darkness, and to a lesser extent Evil Dead 2, was more of a comedy than a horror. Freddy v Jason worked because it was played straight (a lot of in jokes were removed to stop it becoming [too] ridiculous).

THE GODZILLA SCALE

I believe that a film or any other experience is only good if it equals or exceeds your expectations. No matter how good a film, if it falls below your expectation level then you feel let down.

The difference between what you expect and what you get is the "Godzilla" scale, and the bigger the difference the greater your positive/ negative opinion.

I came upon this revalation while going to see Godzilla with my brother. We were bored, it was raining and we could think of nothing better to do. Even so, the whole way there we talked about turning back, because we thought it would be rubbish. We even missed one showing because we sat in a burger bar near the cinema, having a milkshake, thinking about other stuff we could do. When we saw the film, which I freely concede is pants, we both thought it was really good.

This is because we expexted a film of 1% quality and got one of 15%. That gives +14% on the scale.

Other examples:

Phantom Menace
Expected: 95%. Got: 25%. Godzilla scale: -70% (which is why everyone slates it)

Attack of the Clones
Expected:70%. Got 30%. Godzilla scale: -40%
(which is why everyone thinks its pants. But not as bad as TPM)

Sixth Sense
Expected: 50%. Got 80%. Godzilla scale: +30%

Freddy v Jason
Expected: 15%. Got 20%. Godzilla scale: +5%

And so on.

good system like that.

so come on lets be honest.
the DREDD MOVIE.

whats our scores then?

expections 100% got 50% godzilla scale = -50%
based on sets. uniforms, the fact it was DREDD.
lost on plot and actors.

Just remember where you saw this system first!

And, I think it should be called the DrX scale. (Probably too late for that).

The system also explains why opinions on stories decline, then pick up, when - on balance - their quality stays the same.

Eg SinDex

Median quality - 65%.

Initial expectations: 40% (+25%, hey this is good)
Rising to: 80% (-15%, we think it's pants)
Falling to: 40% (+25%, it's better than I thought)
Rising to: 65% (+0%, it's what we expect)

Other examples:

Zenith Phase IV
Expect: 90% Get 80%. -10%; disappointing

Soul Sisters
Expect: 50%. Get 0%. -50%; utter tripe
