Title: Photo-real Caballistics story !?
Post by: Marbles on 16 October, 2003, 03:14:01 AM
I thought the photo-real ad in this weeks Prog for Caballistics looked great.

So good in fact (after the hideously cheesy Durham Red Meg cover a while back) that I reckon the Cabs are a 2K strip that could be used for an entire photo-real story.

Anyone else think this is a good idea ? Or am I moon-faced loon ?

Agreed about the cover though there's a androgynous quality to the model that makes me not sure about my enjoyment of the piece.

DO you want a photo strip, or a strip drawn by Clint Langley?

I'd go for either.

You are of course, all mad.  Photo Strips are great, the Nemesis ones by Tony Luke were pretty good for the fact they were done as cheaply as humanely possible.  Great stuff.

Right, I'm a n00b to 2000AD, I've only been reading for about 4 months regularly. Is photo-real like very realistic artwork or adapted photos? (Agreed, whatever it is, it looks bloody fantastic)

It looks like an adapted foto and it looks rather splendid.  But Marbles is talking about a photo strip using real people kinda like you used to get in Look-In or in the Sun (derdries photo thing)

I think that photostrips are ready to make a comeback. I was lucky enough to receive all three collected photo-story volumes of Doomlord a while back- and while they are great from a nostalic point of view, they are, well, shit.

However. They were produced in the days before PhotoShop and with the awesome power of that particular tool, and a decent photographer under orders of someone who knows how to direct, photostories could come into their own.

I'd like to see Tharg give it a go. And I know a FANTASTIC photog who'd love to do it- and cheaply- who's just waiting for his big break.

That's my thought too Steev.

Seriously, the time for Photo-Strips is now !!!

PVS has shown the way. With Photo-shop manipulation & a little imagination, wonders can be produced. Its about time someone in the fanzine sector mebbe gave it a go, just to show it can be done.

If I wasnt utterly clueless I'd do it myself...
