Well greetings to you all.
I?m back on the popular demand (just kidding).
First of all THANK YOU to all hard core fans of JudgeD that replied in my last post and
People that Emailed me.
I tried to applied some of your advices in this piece (another sketch that went crazy)
There are some issues with anatomy and perspective (and the similar static pose and it?s cropped silly-awkward composition) but ignore that and help me create more authentic ?kick ass? JudgeD.
At the moment I?m going thru a lot of references, but what really counts for me is your opinion.
So fire your C&C at will.
P>S> I have a scenario for a short strip but all I need now is to nail the look of the man himself.
Thanks! And hope I?m not boring you to death!

great head profile. the helmet is more correct and teh face more rugded, chin could still havce bit more,
the muscular look has been offered in tooth before.by differnt artists, as such this is used to good effect within the correct type of script.
shoulder pad look a little large.
but i like your style.
Can't fault your rendering techniques- good sense of three dimensions.
However you might need to vary your point of view, how about 'nailing' Dredd at 3/4 profile, facing left to right so we can get to see the eagle pad.
Already mentioned by other boarders I know but you might want to consider how you would apply your skills to a strip of say, six pages in B&W (or colour, you seem confident enough)
Remember Logan is responsible for Class of '79 so he knows what he's talking about.

Angle on the shoulder pads wrong - it looks like the side nearest to Dredds neck has been peeled up and back to the viewer
ThanX:Devons Daddy,Bart Diaz and Mangamax !!!
-->I?m working on the series of sketches of JudgeD at the moment, and once I get him right will start the strip with more dynamic poses and different ?camera? angles. But first the character itself deserves justice of being brought to life in a manner he deserves. That?s why I seek advice from The Council of Justice (YOU!)
Glad you like the way my colour rendering works.
Thank you for the kind words and C&C!
Darko
You obviously are coping very well with colour, but I'd be very interested to see one of your scetches in B&W, because in my mind. If you can't cut it in B&W you can't cut it at all!
Black, White and Red...
And another...
C&C more than welcome!!!
Colour sketch...
Give up the colour, put away whatever paints you use and pick up a pencil. Get the dimensions right and learn camera angles and storytelling. When your happy with that, start inking.
Learn to walk before running, unlearn what you have learnt and whatever other clich?s that may come to mind.
When you have got to grips with pencil and ink start on colour and paint.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
Thanks Logan,
Doing inks B/W comic book (strips) stuff for years now and doing a short story for submission right now. Will keep you updated.
C&C still welcome?
pencil sketch...
And another...
Please tell me what you think people of the Justice!
B&W very impressive. As I said earlier, would rather see the B&W in tooth until you know what you're doing rather than jumping in with colour. i.e "Boo cook's asylum" Seems to have spilt board, I liked it but maybe in B&W would have taken many boarders a different way.
Again confident lines- all good, these sketches would make great model sheets for referencing the appearance of a character within the context of comic strip and animation work.
They are however predominately face-on, static poses that could also be applied to front cover compositions but might look out of place within the layout of a page.
The other thing is- with the exception of the red/black/white work- the last two drawings lack gravity. Meaning that there's no real shading or block shadow.
Just a thought- if you've access to a printer why not run off a few outputs and try committing some hatching, halftone or solid black to them.
nice stuff Darko. Where u from?
Personally i prefer the wierd stuff, like the guy with the robot attachments and stuff.
Saw your website...needs info. Also very curious to see how you tackle storytelling.

ThanX:Demon Chicken,Bart Diaz and frazer!!!

Darko
P.S. Web sit wasn't updated since ages.
really liking this stuff darko, try popping in the chat room, i think late afternoons you might catch some artists, or more usually theres writers loitering, also, they tell me doing stuff for fanzines is a great way to get in there, but posibly youre already doing this ? Paulvonscott has been looking for artists for solar wind fanzine, theres a yahoo group, er a web site, or you can catch him in chat room sometimes...
hey guys ! links please ?
main problem with your work is , it makes me feel like putting the pens away & skulking off into a corner for the criminally jack of all trades.
Tank you for the kind words Queen and glad you like the art!
After all I?m just one of you people of the Justice so don?t say you?ll give up, it take some learning and loads of practice,
In front of me is a long road too,
so grab those pencils back and lets kick
some creeps ;)

So, how long have you been a reader of 2000AD?

"Bok, Darko:) Zivim u Zagrebu ali ne govorim hrvatski:P"
Bloody show off ...
that's pretty much all i can say except for kurvetino picketino razjebana...which is very very rude:P

blimey ! that is one wierd looking language, is it usually in cyrillic or something? what family of language? finno-ugaric? Is Sci-fi big over there? or a newish thing? comics in general?
sigh, one day i'll travel the world.
"that's pretty much all i can say"
And by your own admission, merely very, very slowly ...
;oP
Darko, how do you rate Enki Balil?
Enki Bilal, Moebius, Manara, Glenn Fabry,
Simon Bisley are my heroes.
I know this was asked (probably) before people,
But...
-Who is your favorite 2000ad artist ever ?
Your b/w stuff is really well rendered, with a good solid placement of black; you just need to work on more dramatic poses.
The original colour Dredd, you started this thread with, reminds me of Dean Ormston's (sp?)work. Overall it?s great. The only thing I see as a bit iffy would be the green up-light on the face. A light like that should emphasis the outline of shapes and masses (like on the uniform) not fill in whole areas of shadow.
On a personnel note I must admit to being a huge McMahon/Gibson Dredd fan so I like my elbow and kneepads to stick out like sore thumbs and not hug the figure. But that just shows everyone has their version of Dredd they relate to the best.
Keep up the good work and if the industry wasn't so deep in shite at the moment I'd recommend seeing about doing design and concept for Video games. Your attention to detail would go down a treat.
Well I still think it's great.
