Title: Star Wars animated show starts today
Post by: Mangamax on 10 November, 2003, 01:39:07 PM
Yup, on Toonami this afternoon at 4.00 and 5.00 (presumably the same episode and more than likely repeated even more before the day is out).
Whether an animated approach might actually improve on the mess of the last 2 films - or its a case of "you can't polish a turd" - remains to be seen.

Star Wars is dead.

I'm going to see the next movie at the cinema (as I saw all the original movies, the re-edits and the new lot) and then that's it.  There will be no point in going to see the re-re-edits, because it literally will just be torture.

I still maintain the original movie was good.   Empire and Jedi preceded the matrix in the
two duffer sequals stakes by twenty years.

SO the cartoon can fuck off, even if it is good.  I don't want to see star wars references in movies again (fuck off Kevin Smith), and I'm going to do my best to make sure George doesn't get another dollar off me.

Now where did I put the Christmas special...

George Lucas has in fact been possessed by the spirit of Gene Roddenberry. Rodders plan is to destroy Star Wars, thus making Star Trek the number one Sci-Fi franchise once more through a combination of incomprehensible floppy eared aliens, annoyingly girly heroes, bad Alec guiness impersonations and out of place Droids.
I think he's succeded.
I'll stick to the old Star Wars comics that are being reprinted.

paulvonscott- you are the biggest grumpy guts in the star spangled universe!
star wars is not dead and never will be as long as it lives on in the hearts of geeks like me.  if you need your faith reaffirming just play the star wars drinking game- great fun.
and Genndy Tartovsky is one slick mofo- if anyone can bring some tasty toon jedis to the screen its him.
i mean come on Kit Fisto in underwater jedi battles? thats gotta be the best thing ever.
plus it looks like they have used a lot of the Dermot Power characters designs that havent been used  in the films yet.

"paulvonscott- you are the biggest grumpy guts in the star spangled universe!"

Who me?  C'mon!  Mr Cheery Chappy winner 1978?!

Really, it's hard to have any faith in anything that has become a franchise.  Take something that's pretty entertaining and exploit it till you are left with a creative dustbowl and the next thing you are just making product to beget more product.

Mentioning no other names, but you can pretty much guarentee that anything mildly popular with it's own identity will eventually be homogenised and mass-produced by less talented workers (or the same workers but jaded and dried up) with artificial colouring, flavouring, sweeteners and preservatives until theres very little of the original flavour left.

Your soggy jedi's are far from tempting.

When DVD technology is a bit better I'm going to make a transfer of the original film, then the bit with the emperor/luke and darth from jedi, and at the end add the scene of the star wars stuff being burnt in Spaced and watch that whenever I think I feel the urge to do Star Wars again.

ok, I guess I touched on something on my last post that tickled a few folks so I will not dwell on that (GGITSSU?) but I dont think its fair to call the man who brought us Samurai Jack 'less talented'.  the man smells of class.  I can smell him from here.

Well, I watched it and it was...alright.
Far far too short, that's for sure. No doubt it will be better when all the episodes are edited together for the inevitable dvd release.

Well, it's a fair cop, some topics such asStar Wars, state of classic 2000AD strips, the antics of poo-ing vicars... they all do make me kinda grumpy, I guess...

But other times I'm just happy, laughing, carefree sort of person.  Who looks at that multi-faceted jewel that is life and gives a big old happy smile...

Take for instance that Comics International review of Bek and Kawl a while back.  Spinal Tap were lucky to have two words in their review - Bek and Kawl just got 'excrement'.  I tell you, I was far from grumpy that day...

I could go on (Art, Trout, Dudley and Slips) to give all sorts of examples of things that make me laugh, give me a chuckle and make my day all peachy and rosy, but hey, let's just all be nice and none grumpy shall we...  Ah...

And on that note, hey, what was the wonderful new Star Wars cartoon like...

I'd like to confirm that Paul is indeed a cheerful, fun person when you meet him.

However - and this is often the case with message boards - his personality appears different sometimes in type.

It's only occasionally that he deserves the nickname Peevs.

Similarly, spending time on the internet makes me seem mental.

Hey, hang on...

Tsk. You're going to have to let the Bek & kawl thing go sometime, you know, especially as its not running at the moment.
Title: Re: Star Wars animated show starts...
Post by: paulvonscott on 11 November, 2003, 02:34:49 AM
Well it would have been not to have responded to Si's comment at all and save the Bek and Kawl comments for when Bek and Kawl was running in 2000AD.  Granted.  I should have just left it alone and not bothered with it.

I don't mind the grumpy comment, which is pretty accurate based on my board posts, funny and by someone I don't know, so no grumpiness there.

I don't object to jokes by people I know and like, I just made the mistake of being irritated again by Si.  Again, a mistake I do my best to avoid, I'm now back to my usual self, which is being pretty grumpy about everything under gods star spangled heavens.

Paul, what do you think about Michael Howard?

Title: Re: Star Wars animated show starts...
Post by: paulvonscott on 11 November, 2003, 02:51:56 AM
Difficult to answer in a way that doesn't add to the grump rating (I know I should just say something stupid).

I'm not a Tory, have never voted for them, never will vote for them, dissaprove quite highly of some of the policies Howard championed under the previous government...

But no personal emnity whatsoever, I just don't share the same politics and I'm not keen on demonising politicians.

Obviously if I was, he would be easier than most what with him being a transylvanian creature of the night who effectively became leader of the opposition on halloween.  But no, I'm above that.
Title: Re: Star Wars animated show starts...
Post by: El Spurioso on 11 November, 2003, 03:10:11 AM
Ahh....  I'm confused..  Is this new an unsignposted policy a) no joking amongst people who don't know each other, b) no joking amongst people who don't like each other, or c) merely no jokes by me which might conceivably be at PVS's fragile expense?

Or are those three things all the same anyway?  Ach, well.

Bored already.

If I said that I agreed with "Peevs" completely about Star Wars, would I also get called a grumpy ol' git? Mind you, it'd be better than some of the responses to my "Star wars Bashing" that i've had on other sites!:)

Well *my* point was that I didn't really like the old stuff either. I thought first one was entertaining enough but thought things went rapidly downhill from there. Sorry (prepares to duck & cover).

Well, this is the fourth time me and spurrier have been in the matrix.

No that's not what I meant Si, you always seem to have a different interpretation of what I've said.

And I never accused you of having a fragile ego when you expressed concern over the fact I called you Spurrier insead of Si in the chat room you nob.

I'd explain what I meant again, but what always happens is that I have to use more words to get my point across and then Spurrier takles more false inferences from what I've said, then he walks off bored and I walk off pissed off.  Sod this for a game of matrix, lets just go straight to the end.

Either piss off out of it or lets fight like dogs, I can't be bothered with middle ground any more.

I am interested in what other people think of the star wars cartoon, though I do believe star wars is dead, and I think it sadly attracts talented people who would be better off elsewhere.  But that's the power of a franchise.

Haven't any interest in another round of mutual hackle-raising, wrong-impression giving, fighting-to-have-the-last-word, pretending-to-be-above-it-all-whilst-actually-sticking-in-more-knives-with-every-post and general blah blah blahness.  I tried a spot of friendly ribbing following someone else's comment - it's a mistake I won't make again.  I suspect we are doomed to not get along, which is a shame, because in reading your conversations with other people you seem like a funny guy.  Not, however, when I enter the equation.  This is something I'm quite happy to live with.

There shall be no more prodding and poking from me, I'd like to think I'll get the same favour in return.

Calling me a nob was, I imagine, intended as a joke.

I have no interest in the star wars cartoon.

My contribution to this thread is over.

"Excrement".

HAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry boys- but you have to acknowledge a good comeback...

Some people just wind each other up without even trying- and I've no doubt at all that most of it is due to posting style.  Many meanings get lost when you can't actually see or hear somebody saying something.

Of course, I like to think that all my former nemesies (is that a real word?)- the likes of Dudley, Hex and that red twat, Generally Contrary (come on, Andy- you *know* you love it!) all got over it in the end- as did I.  Andy and Dudley especially have many interesting (but of course, *totally* wrong) points of view that I love to read- and occasionally argue against.

;)

Am I the only one who thinks it'd be a shame if Si and Paul just stalked around eachother like a pair of stinky old tomcats around their favourite pissing patch, without ever actually going for in for the kill?

;)

Ah well...

Yup, JEB, I love it and I know it.  But, I hope that the message that comes from my rabid, confrontational postings is; can't we just all get along.

I'd hate to see people fall out over postings that necessarily lack tone and inflection, in medium where the absence of personale interaction prevents people from knowing when their humour is appreciated and when it might be hurtful, and most of all in a 'place' that both parties enjoy frequenting.

I know what you mean, Mr B.  I wanted to electronically punch Jamie B in the mouth on another thread a few minutes ago for calling me stupid.  I decided that it was revenge enough to know that his point of reference was flawed (although I couldn't be bothered to point it out).

That and the fact that he might have meant it with good humour, of course...

hey get out of the star wars thread and leave PVS alone, you have had you fun.  he says he is not a grump and I will take his word for it, although if you are going to dreddcon Mr PVS i expect to see a full on 'happy dance' from you!

I thought the Clone Wars toon was just peachy, obviously too short but I can wait till I have them all and then I will rejoice.  Palpatines characterisation was aces.  his face seems to be made out of eye bags.
I also like the way you see Yoda riding across the desert and it seemed like he was on his own but he was leading a bally great army.  fast and furious.  in its way the concept reminds me of 2000ad in that the stories are kept so short you have to really go for it.
