As its coming up to the end of the year, Im thinking of running the Boarders Awards for this year again (as long as theres enough interest). We dont give out prizes for this, but Im sure most creators will be happy with a fan award :)
Anyway let me know what you think and ill run it again. Ill also (next week) be looking for nominations and suggestions so add these to.....

Yer Slips
Yay! I'm up for it!
Are you up for it?
We can use the same format as Logan does for the cover threads too.
If you want slips, I will help with the collation of the votes. Let me know what you want.
Bolt-01.
Yeah. No problem with helping out, Im after nominations of droids and stories and suggestions of other awards too.... (in other words Im winging it)
Yer Slips
someone put up the catorgories then.
or shall we leave them as last year. perhaps drop the steaming bison name? in respect to the fact the creator is a member of this board and will be at dreddcon.
or leave it and hope he accepts the comical reference by the board.
but we should go hold this again yes!
I have started a list of categories, and wil post them here when complete.
The list is based on last years, and may not change a great deal.
Maybe a couple more self-reverential categories to encourage boarders to vote.
Bolt-01.
self-reverential categories
i cust and pasted this.as there was no way i could spell it myself.what does that mean then?
I guess like most popular boarder least popular boarder boarder you wish was hung drawn and quatered after a botched matrix thread like that?
aye good fun all around,
what about ;
bestest web sites
bestest web masters
bestest fanzine
etc etc ?
The best way to run this would be to use the polls. As it's only for this year, there shouldn't be too many choices. I'd suggest waiting until the end of year prog is out, then running choices from prog 2003-2004 and the respective Megs.
But there must be nominations, especially for "best new" whatever, as in past years people who've been around forever have won it.
- Trout
OK hows this for a compromise. The voting shall be done by poll after prog 2004 and nominations will start now for all of the catergories above?? Fair. No yes.
Oh and I think Best Fansite would be a good one.
as would Best Fanzine, anything else.......
Oh and cmon f*cking Scotland!!!!
Yer Slips
That seems like a good compromise.
If Iever get the time, I'm going to flick through this year's progs and maybe do a list of new stories and this year's Dredds, unless someone beats me to it.
Or points out, as usual, that all the info's already somewhere on this site. :-)
- Trout
Worst Strip "Steaming Bison"
1. Sinister Dexter 28%
2. Bison 25%
3. Ataver 14%
Wow....you guys must really hate Sin Dex !
Cheers Col
BWA HAAAA HAAAAA HAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAA!
I love it when someone can laugh at themselves.
Especially if it's you, Col. :-)
- Trout
Maybe it should be the SinDex award....
Would you believe I didnt vote for Bison either........
That result is probably the most shocking from last year. Though in IMHO SinDex has run out of steam and should be rested. I think Ill be pulling the name as well and not calling it the Steaming Bison award..........
Yer Slips
Historically speaking, it should mebbe be the Chronos Carnival award?
Link: Thrillsuckers
I think we should keep the 'Steaming Bison' award... the name of the award is more about the *reaction* to the story then just the worst story.
ie which story really made you *shudder* the most at the thought of reading it & had the most hatred thrown at it (deservedly or otherwise) - this year I might suggest Steve Moore's Past Imperfect for example.
IIRC the reason the voting wasn't conducted via the polls last year was because of the need to give proper time to each category.
Some people only visit the site on week-days, some people only at weekends etc and polls should have the same length of time to run, so it should be 1 week per category...which would then take *forever*. I'd recommend using a thread, as last year, where everyone cut'n'pastes the categories & fills in their votes on one thread.
How about Wake setting up an awards page where we can have seperate polls in all catagories, with a link from the main page?
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
That'd be preferable to clogging the board up with seperate threads.
If Iever get the time, I'm going to flick through this year's progs and maybe do a list of new stories and this year's Dredds, unless someone beats me to it.

Hot damn, that's a fine list.
Well done and thanks for beating me to it, Odds!
- Trout
No problem Your Highness, I have many files, it was just a cut & paste job.
There's an error there though - Banzai Battalion was in Prog 2003 rather then in year 2003 (I was using 'Find') so that shouldn't be counted.
Unless stuff from P2003 is counted, in which case you'll need to count Rogue Trooper "Angels" (Rennie/Coleby), Sinister Dexter "Get Shirty" (Abnett/Davis - text story with spot illustrations) and The V.C.s "Escher's Well" (Abnett/Williams).
What d'yall reckon - count P2003 or not - it does include the episode 1s of 4 of the thrills that are in the year '03.
Well it depends on wether we count 2003 and not 2004 or 2004 and not 2003.....
Id also like to see a one shot award, best PI, Future Shock or terror tale???

The only thing I'm dithering over is the placing of Tales of Telguuth.
One offs or Returning strip? You decide!
Well, A link could always be put up on the front page, to the POLLS section of the site. (Alternatively ask Wake to create a special voting page)
Then all the polls could run for 2 weeks, simultaneously.
I've placed them in the one-off's sheet of my 2K files, but they could go in repeat offenders *sorry* returning strip section if y'all want.
I somehow doubt it matters too much as I don't think it'll get too many votes...
Well, if you follow how the stories are broken down on this site, then Telguuth is a "one-off".
Who cares?
It won't win.
I also think it should be Prog 2004, since Prog 2003 was included in last year's voting and 2004 will be a good cut-off point for this year.
- Trout
Are Megazine stories not included?
Seperate set of categories, surely?
Telguuths to be included in the one offs then. Surprised how much I'm looking forwards to the next set of Telguuths. The artist they've got now has raised the series quality ten-fold. Guess it didn't need painted art after all.
Like Logan said, any chance we could set this up on the site?
Are Megazine stories not included?
Yes so we need a run down of those too :)

Link: Nominations for Best Messageboard Icon are....
Paul Cornell has had at least two series printed in the Meg before XTNCT, but it's probably fair to say that neither of them had the impact that Tripod and his mates has had.
I definatley think we should split the categories as there are a brick load of series, and it's unfair to pit a future shock against Leviathon. Or to decide between Stronty and Cabals, for instance.
More possible categories -
Best character,
Best supporting character,
Best character in 'Judge Dredd',
Best new character,
Funniest moment,
Best line,
Best cliff-hanger,
Best cover,
Best text feature,
Best collected edition,
Best audio,
Best merchandise...
More and more are springing to mind. Maybe a limit of 20 categories?
Splendid idea.
Incidentally, the list of Dredd stories reads like a gang of perps:
Hard Day's Night Morrisson
The Satanist Wagner
Club Sov Rennie
Inside Job Edginton
Meatmonger Smith
...or the Famous Five perhaps :o)
Yeah Id like to limit it to say 15 or so awards, any more and it gets too silly.
Im trying not to have character threads, as they seem to be reflected in the Strip threads... But I do like Best new character.... So that may blwo that one out of the window :)
Slips
I could set up a poll page parallel to the current page if the format is otherwise okay without spending too much time on it. Someone could then write a news item which I could put on the front page with a link to the awards page. However, each award would have to be a open ended, or voting from up to 10 options as per the current polls.
Wake
Thanks wake.
Ill do the blurb with some help from Rotts (if he still wants to?), Ill need to nail down the catergories as well....
CHeers
SLips
Are we splitting the caregories between Meg and 2k? Perhaps combining Dredd into one?
I don't think the character votes totally reflect the best strip. I can see Leviathon doing well in the best strip but Inspector Lament not rating highly as a character.
Best Line = Transsexual Lightning...
or was that last year?
>Best Audio: Sorry, I have no idea which of these are applicable.
The 2000AD Audio?s released so far in 2003 are:
Fire From Heaven 18th January 2003.
99 Code Red! 18th May 2003.

And to be released in November:
War Planet
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
I think it would be good if there was no 'view results' option for the awards poll until the results are finalised.
Especially if there are open ended questions because spelling & punctuation make a lot of confusion to the polls.
The plan will be to draw up a list of awards. Today and tommorrow. Post this with those stories elligible for the awards, hopefully thatll keep spelling mistakes etc to a minimum
Yer Slips
Nay there's been more audios than that this year, surely? And Fire was fairly recent too.
Best line
thats got to be in there this year.
something irrelevant but important to not let us get to serious.

Bloody hell. We'll be here to next year.
Well, as long as it's in poll format, and I don't need to work through all those threads.

was odd boy speaking to me or every one?
i think we need one thread on it though. for the fun comments and sarcasim that goes with such things.when is the expected date for this to begin then?
DD - no, not *just* you
Sorry to brutally resurrect a thread - was just wondering if this is still happening?
Aha yes it is. Ill post the Awards, but voting is not starting until we have prog 2004. The awrds will be in a better format and we have a list of choices for the year (to make voting easier), big respect to Bolt 01, who did most of the legwork and whose blubrs are rather funny....

Yer Slisp
I don't see why, most comics fans are obsessive types anyway so give us a long list and we'll work our way through it all the same.
Best Individual Fan Strip?
Im trying to keep them to minimum as they may be message board threads and I dont want to clog the board..... but we could do it as polls..... something we need to discuss..... Im deciding after Dreddcon :D
Yer Slips
Polls! Polls! Polls!
(C'mon Wake's even said he'll set up a page for it)
I can't be bothered to wade through separate message threads. I haven't for Logan's voting, I can't be bothered with it all. A poll though, one click on one page, is much simpler (plus in this instance I get an instant average result, which I know we won't with the Boarders Award, but still)
As a note about the voting for covers on the message board. As this is only a small cross section of users who vote, it can't really be representative of the best covers, but the individual cover votes on the prog profile pages, provides a much better idea of the best covers.
Not yet. We should do this after Prog 2004 is out.
Patience, expatriate one.
- Trout
As far as this year is concerned, prog 2003 is indeed valid, as it is the start point for many of the stories.
I, personally, feel that 2004 shuld not be included unless it contains more than one final episode.
Slips, this is the first time I've been abe to read this thread for a while, I'm off work today (YAY!), so will you mail me later with any details for the polls (if that is going to happen) as I am getting my web-fu into shape for the threads, and I have no idea what may have to change.

Bolt-01.
But didn't we include Prog 2003 in last year's voting? That's all I'm basing my opinion on.
If I'm misremembering, I'll back down.
- Trout
To be honest Im not sure if we did or didnt. But Bolt and I are trying to put together a Template that will work in the future with less work, hence the threads or polls discussion and what awards to have. What I personally want is to have the document that Bolt has done some tremendous work on and use it years to come (I suppose this is my wifes project management coming out) it will hopefully take out all the legwork for the most part.
So the timeline Id like is from prog 2003 up to next weeks prog (if this is the last prog before 2004), Im still open for more Votes and any discussions on Polls or Threads is also welcome.
Yer Slips
PS - Bolt Im off to today up until wednesday but Ill be at home and I can get anything you send to my work mail account anyway. Just let me know...
Okay, let's do that. Sounds like sterling work is under way.
As you say, we can discuss it this weekend.

Personally Id love to take the credit for it, but Bolt01 has kinda taken what we had and created something rather wonderful....
Yer Slips
Aw shucks.
Slipps: If the web-fu goes all SIKU on me then I'll look a right KEANE!
As far as the work goes, I aint finished yet. I've got to do something at work seeing as I have no access to the board! And this fulfills my long repressed fan-boy anorakness (sp?)
Bolt-01.
testing again.

Dan Abnett (Sinister/Dexter/ VC?s/ Atavar/ Durham Red)
Jaspre Bark (Future Shock)
Necro-bounce.
Heh, Heh, you said bounce! :)
Bolt-01
Yeah I know, Bolts done all the work and it looks excellent. Two problems
1. Ive had Broadband problems
2. Xmas is soo bloody busy
Sorry chaps Ill post when I get a moment.
Yer Slips
OKAY. After some discussions with wake a number of polls will be going on the message booard for nominations, basically best cover, most improved droid, etc. Ill post these tomorrow.
Yer Slips
Im posting the Prelinary Awards now there may be quite a few of them, so bear with me it will be fine
Yer Slips
Can you link/list them here as you post them, so we just have to follow this thread to see when a new award is announced?
More! More!
The rest of the awards with a possible exception will appear in the Boarders Awards section.
YEr Slips
Could we have a "Collection we, the message board fans, would most like to see- thank you very much Jamie B" category?
Ive got the awards I want Dane thank yew, I want to have a life in february :)
Oddboy asked about the nominations. You can nominate as many as you want, but only one nomination per item per person so dont vote for prog 2004's cover ten times. Top 15 or so* will go into the awards
Yer Slips
* - I have more slots than 15, but Id like to keep it manageable, if there a tie between 3 for 15th place well have 18 just to be fair
Well this seems to have caused some murmings on the most improved droid nominations and wether people deserve thsi or another award. But we have other awards for Droids, Im gonna post the full list here
The Abelard Snazz award for best "new" Writer:
The Chopper award for best "new" Artist:
The Halo Jones award for most Improved Droid:
The imperfect shock terror twist award:
The Bad city Blue award for best One off Series:
Why, Tharg, WHY?:
Best Fanzine: - I dont have a huge list if anyone wants to post some suggestions let me know
The "Oh my Grud, not Judge Death again" award for best Reprint:
Best Message Board Icon:
Best Message board thread:
The Shako award for best Character:
The Murd the oppressor award for best Villain:
The W.R. Logan memorial award for best cover:
The Rosa Karn award for best Writer:
The Two ton Tony Tubbs award for best Artist:
The Max Normal award for best Dredd Story:
The Ace Garp award for best Series (non Dredd)
And thats all folks........
The fantastic names were created by Bolt-01, who did nearly all the work so please dont give me the credit... :)
Yer Slips
Options for the best fanzine would be:
(definitely 2Ky)
Zarjaz
Dogbreath
(I don?t think there was a '79)
(just about 2Ky)
Solar Wind
FutureQuake
(...was there a Violent?)
Ach thats the four I have...
Yer Slips
Would it be worth opening it up to fanzines with reallly slim connections such as contrbutions by boarders or droids, or references to 2k (no matter how sligh) count? That way we gets stuff like BAM, the Superheor Store comic and The girly Comic on the list.
Reckon a 2000AD Fanzine should be directly related to 2000 or the Meg.
Have a separate Fanzine section for all others with tenuous links.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
or maybe expand the category to include fan fiction/ strips (e.g. Bolt's Whistler strips, pvs's Mr Moon stories)?
Why not make it "Judge Spotters Club Award for best published/online fan contribution", that way the publications and individual onsite strips, fan websites etc could all be in with a chance? Of course, you wouldn't be comparing like with like, but it'd be between the voter and their conscience whether a 3-panel joke online strip beats an entire publication (or Bolt-01's attempt to draw the equivalent of 1 issue of 2000ad and the Megazine every week).
...Dudley
You make me feel like a Hack! Just when I was getting going on that strip for you as well! Maybe I should slow down a bit!
Hope I'm not too late to vote myself! Not got long on the board tonight.
Bolt-01
I *thought* I was implying that you're a total star, a wizard with the pen and ink, a true 2KAD fan, a contributor who puts (almost) all others on this board to shame, and the man whose productivity puts Dan Abnett to shame. "Hack" didn't enter my head.
Did you have a nice time in Prague, then?
Seriously, page 1 in well under way. :)
Bolt-01
SO whast the current Boarders Awards situation?
I have been fustrated by the site not staying up. When its stable and I have the time Ill finish the lot off. Sorry for the delay
Yer Slips
cool, thought I might of missed it...
CU Krestel
looking forward to this.
will tharg be highlighting it in the prog and megazine?
could we ask him too.
DD, he was sent last year's results but nothing appeared.
- Trout
so we can take it generally that marketing is not thargs greatest strengh then.
i think its worth an email at least. i shall send one upon a definitive date being set officailly for the polls to begin.
Things are a bit quiet on this front.
Slippo. I have some of the awards that have not been done for polls htat are ready to go as threads.
Do you want me to start the ball rolling?
Bolt-01
Are we meant to be voting on the polls that are already up?
Im my fit of taking my ball, I said my enthusiasm for this had waned. After a week away its become better, Bolt, crack away if you want. Mail me off thread and well discuss.
Sorry for the delay everyone...
Cheers
Slips
Yay!

after this section.
You seem to be forgetting the .jpg from some of the image locations.
Wake
YYEESS!
Cheers Wake, once again you saved the Dave!
Bolt-01
Then it must be the spaces getting left in the image names. Prog thumbnals are e.g 1337thumb.jpg not 1337 thumb.jpg
If you have a return in the middle of an image name, it may get translated into a space.
Wake
SLIPPO!!
The files are ready for you.

This is a really annoying thread for anyone who gets the message board by e-mail.
La Placa Rifa,

Sorry logan.
