what splendid fun that was!
Thanks to Jamie for organising a top day, and all the many boarders who provided such excellent drinking company.
Right, then... sketches? anecdotes? let's have 'em! I'll scan the luvverly pics I got later, for now here's a photo of a group of drunken layabouts :)
Got there early and watched thm trying to get organised. Hilarious.
Met: David Brunt (Sorry about the confusion :))
Oddboy: nice earring.
Bart Diaz: Good time for a quick drink that was.
PVS: briefly.
Dudley: not enough time to natter, should've stayed in the Carlos Q with me, but he went to the back (there were only 5-6 people after me)
The Watcher: Again briefly.
The Trouts minion: What's a nice bloke like him doing with the Trout?
Mr Tips: Nice Jacket.
Mr C: Outside the snooker room with a sarnie in his hands.
There were probably loads of boarders there that I never met, and I have found that taking your twelve year old is great fun, as whilst I q'd for an hour the meet Mr Carlos, Dan got sketches from every other artist sitting at the time!
Thoroughly enjoyed my first 'con in fifteen years, and will make the effort next year too.
The biggest news I got was from Mr Steve Yeowell, the return of Tyranny Rex. By him and John Smith.
Thanks as well to the HeroClix Creche facility for giving Dan somewhere to hang whilst I went to the cave-scribbler rejection session.
Bolt-01
Ah right, so that was you alongside me nattering to Steve Yeowell.
Your boy sure had some nice sketches
Dang, should've introduced myself!
Dan has lovely sketches, and I've asked if he will let me send 'em to the board.
He got:
Zenith (MK1) by Steve Yeowell
Finnegan Sinister: Simon Davis.
Slaine: Mike Collins
Bato Loco: Simon Coleby
Holt (Asylum): Boo Cook (Dans personal choiceas fave artist of the day, and a thoroughly nice man)
Strontium Dog: God drew that. It waslike watching a poloroid photo emerge from the gloom. I have never seen an artist produce such effortless beauty. And he even has a Daniel of his own.
Bolt-01
I wanna see. Get 'em scanned and up on the site.
Forgot to say. If you don't have a scanner, send 'em to me in the post and i'll do it for you. I promise to give 'em back. Honest.
(he he he)
Yeah I enjoyed it! There was lots of news to be picked up about what's happening next year (from the talks and those droids) and it all sounded pretty groovy. The bringing back of Invasion, which seemed like such a mad idea suddenly appeared so rational.
Didn't buy that much (but still came away with pennies to my name), I was hoping to buy a couple of early progs (there were none, just as Watcher has said elsewhere it was just the mid range stuff, no later progs I needed either), but settled for the Big Finish Sale and got some of the CD's.
Didn't get any sketches, but it was just nice getting to watch Carlos drawing Alpha's for people. Got a few books signed by poeple, more of an excuse to say hello really. Got stuff signed by Steve Yeowell, Ian Gibson, John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra... basically all the older droids ;). I wish I'd let him draw the willy on Dredd he threatened to, it would have been a new revelation, I could even publish pictures of people looking at it and going 'AIIEEE! It's hideous' and start off a whole new Dredd's Dark Secret...
No John Smith or Brett Ewins (that I noticed - though I was stuck in the bar a lot) which was a shame. And I hope Siku wasn't put off by all the grief over a pointy chin, the gulf between opinionated message board rants and people in real life is pretty wide.
Got the new Extreme PJ Maybe which is pretty damn good. I've pretty much got my most wanted reprint, so anything after this is a bonus. Was trying to keep it to read in one go, but I read half of it after watching Magnum Force last night (MF which apart from being brutal and fantastic, seemed loaded with Dredd moments).
Enjoyed the talk about what was coming next year, missed the big panel as I got stuck in the bar. Had great fun talking rubbish to all the boarders, sorry for anyone I missed (even if you weren't), it all seemed so random and chaotic.
Oh and some breaking news from Paul Cornell, he has a book coming out soon, it's called British Summertime and it's available from all good bookshops soon ;) (It's okay Paul, you can take off the moustache now, the Fatwah is lifted)
Oh and the student punk on the door was explaining 2000AD to some students who felt they had a right to use the venue. "Oh, it was something that was big in the seventies apparently..."
If only Mek-Quake had turned up.
Yeah, Carlos is such a sweet man but boy was he tired.
Great to have a natter while he produced an Alpha for me - more Coburn on the way!
The queue for Carlos was huge all day, and he spent much more time than he was supposed to sketching stuff. I collared him in the bar when he was trying to relax, so cheers again Carlos.
"... hope Siku wasn't put off by all the grief over a pointy chin..."
From what i gathered, that was EXACTLY why he was a no-show.
"It's an ill chin that blows nobody any good..."
Anyway... good con, good con...
Excellent day, excellent benue. Could do with a PA system in the talks room tough.
Just woken up with a hangover after the nights events.
Had a great time, & many thanks to all the boarders I met there, top blokes each and every one.
Delighted to get a Dredd sketch from Carlos (although kinda regretting not getting Alpha, I think he just goes through the motions when doing Dredd, but Alpha is a character he has more interest in, so makes that little bit more effort when sketching).
Real pleased to meet Gibson (got a Halo sketch), and of course many thanks to the Mighty Jock for that Mean Machine sketch.
Oh, and I bought a few Hellblazer pages from The Mighty Jock, gonna have to buy a house now to put 'em in!!
Great day, met some nice people. The Shed do was nice and informal, as was the session in the bar afterwards, which was nice. Good to see so many people and droids enjoying themselves.
Predictably most of the news I got was about the Big Finish range, which was nice. For now it's enough to say that Johnny Alpha WILL return. Lots of other news which can't be shared.
Prediction for the new year - Chopper will go down a storm.
Biggest regret - not buying any Middenface McNulty art. Maybe in the new year...
DXB, emial me yer mates address & I'll post that Hellblazer to him. (Promise!!!)
once again sounds like it was a perfect day out.
sketches galore.free hero clix, and plenty of good company.
the bit where by non boarders like the chin by siku.ignore them, some day they will reach the level of enlightment we have found. the day when attending dreddcon is akin to pilgramage.
have you considered maybe it was SIKU you where talking too and his family. trying to influence the true feeling towards his dredd style.
any pitchfest moments to share then?
A great day! My first con.
I got many sketches, including two behatted primates (one of which is more zombie orang-utang then monkey, granted).
Pictures will be up soonish...
Spent a great deal of time with Dom Reardon trying my hardest to choose just one page from Caballistics, Inc. to buy. Not an easy task.
Mr Tips' pitch (& subsequent related sketch by Dom) was excellent. (And Tharg seemed to like it too...)
ah, yes, pithchfest...
several boarders pitched stuff, and will I hope share their thoughts on it, but I have to say I'm astounded that Tips did what I wasn't sure was possible, by pitching a story very nearly as unprintable as "Sperm Count"...
Oh, god, I've just remembered about the sketch Dom did for him too... :s
I'd also like to thank Bart Diaz for his splendid Cosmic Ray artwork. It seems strange to be rewarded for a near-psychotic act of gross stupidity, but what the hell :)
And Oddboy, for very patiently listening to my rant on the bus home about why McMahon's Meg 2.49 cover is a work of utter genius.
Here's some nice pictures that some droids were kind enough to do for me:
Johnny Alpha, drawn for Longman by Carlos Ezquerra. He understandably baulked at my initial request for a picture of a big flying monster being killed by Johnny Alpha :)

Toby, or as Ian Gibson put it, "Oh, that bloody dog, I hate drawing him." Sorry, Ian.

2-headed dog in a jar by Steve Yeowell:

"Can I see the rabbits now?"
Yes, you can, courtesy of Boo Cook:
Oh, and special mention to dxb, for the finest gift anyone could hope for: a monkey with a whole sackful of hats. I'll take some photos later, so you can all share in the glory of it :)
You where all lucky as I didnt get to see anything, attend a single seminar or talk or get a sketch or signed item. Nothink :(
I was downstairs with Mongoose all day but had a great time and did manage to get to speak very briefly with both John and Carlos, but like a muppet didnt ask them to sign my Dredd rpg rules. Maybe next year.
I hope everyone had a good time though and I want to thank Jamie, Mark and Dominic for all their help and hard work yesterday.
Marc
Was my first con, and was a thoroughly enjoyable affair (but I headed off early 'cause I was suffering from post-cold knackeredness + jetlag so didn't get to do any evening drinking with you chaps).
Got several sketches - a Yeowell Zenith (Phase 1), a Roberts Bec n' Kawl (with large Slug monster), A Gibson robo-rat, an Ezquerra Gronk, a Simon Davis Sinister and a Boo Cook Midnighter (or Bad-nighter as he put it, but I think it's a damn good sketch)
Steve
Had a fantastic day at Dredd con.
Bought the new Dredd statue for ?30 special offer. It is superb.
Got 2 pages of original art, Shako pin up from Jock and the message boarders on the wall Dredd
from Dylan Teauge.
Got sketches from;
Simon Fraser..Sinister
Steve Yeowell..Hook Jaw
Carlos Ezquerra..Major Eazy
Boo Cook...Hammerstein
Ian Gibson..Sam Slade
Mike Collins..Axel Pressbutton
Jock..Rico
Dom Reardon..Jenney possessed
Dylan Teauge..Dredd
Patrick Goddard..Dredd
Cheers everyone for taking the time to draw these for me.
Roll on Dreddcon nextr year.
Actually it was rather good in all and its really nice to talk b*llsh*t at people rather than over the written medium, though I suspect they probably think I talk far too much :)
I probably missed a ton of people, I, like PVS, spent far too much time in the bar, but it was nice meeting a lot of you again. Sorry to anyone I didnt meet....
Pitchfest was well worth the effort and yes Tiplodocus' pitch, did up the ante from last year. Tears were once again rolling down my face. But the quality of the pitches this year was much improved and really any one of 4 or 5 could have won it. Ill mention Tips, Gem and Al's were amongst those. Liked the armless terror tale (cant remember that chaps name and I was speaking to him for at least an hour) and the earth as an egg terror tale too.... Means that next year your pitch will have to be excellent, to stand a chance of winning, so get yer thinking cap on now.....
Yer Slips
Right, I've updated my website with piccies of DreddCon IIII.
Big THANK YOU! too all the droids who sketched for me. As I have no scanner, the pictures are reproduced via a digi-camera and as such some are a bit blurry/hard to make out. I'll scan them properly at my Dad's at Christmas, but till then these'll do.
Also, a big SORRY! too all the droids who I took photos of, these are on the internet now also!
I picked up 2 pages of original art, a page of Dom's CabInc 'Going Underground' & a pretty violent page from Steve Yeowell's Red Seas.
Follow the link below to my site, go to 'Picture Gallery' & select 'DreddCon IIII'.
Link: www.oddboyonline.co.uk
Those are some bloody good sketches there, Oddboy.
Glad to hear you all had a great time...
Hopefully I'll make it next year..
*fingers crossed that Logan managed to get me a sketch*
Back home after not being able to get a seat between Oxford and Manchester. We're talking 4 hours. Still, met a lovely girl from Stockport. Should have asked for a phone number...
Sketches -
Dom Reardon - Hannah Chapter. Dom was seen to be sketching in the bar even as last orders were announced. He also kept up the sartorial elegance he's reknowned for. (Chapter was sitting at the next table at Breakfast this morning, right chaps?).
Mike Collins - Ukko. Mike was one of the friendliest people there and kept going back to sketch some more when there was an empty seat. He was also exceptionally fast, in fact I suspect he's not a person at all, merely an Ukko sketch producing machine in humanoid form (that's a compliment, by the way).
Steve Roberts - Slaine.
Simon Davis - Hellboy.
Simon and Steve - Judge Death and Jared Kawl. The crossover event of the millenium.
Steve Yeowell - Zenith. Steve was very friendly and happy to chat but went into a trance state when sketching that was fascinating to see.
Dylan Teague - Judge Inaba. The queues for these two were really good fun, more a cluster of people all chatting to one another, which made a change.
Ian Gibson - Robo-Hunter. It was a real pleasure to meet Ian and chat. He's a harsh critic on some of his work, very dismissive of stuff he doesn't think is up to scratch but he agreed that Verdus was great and recommended some reprint covers I should look out for. Nice guy.
Boo Cook - Ace Garp. From a cameo in the background of D.M.W. to a full sketch. It's perfect stuff and if a star scan or book cover is needed for an Ace Trucking collection is needed then Boo is the man. He also left a black with "______" in for me to fill in the name of the bidder of my choice should I ever e-bay the thing.
Jock - Johnny Alpha. I regret I won't be able to keep this one. Jock went beyond the call of duty to do this one and it's appreciated. Another friendly guy, who said one thing that I think will stick with me from Dreddcon. "You're not having those!" which, if it were in a film would have people cheering in the cinema. You had to be there...
Various quotes/news snippets from Dreddcon -
Mike Collins is drawing his first self created strip for the weekly, a supernatural western with Ian Edgington. Wonderful art so far.
"They turned the great Fergie into a comic sidekick". Over heard in the Gibson queue.
Chopper looks lovely. It's going to be big. 10 parts, starting in the spring.
"I have Dredds life planned out for the next 40 years" John Wagner.
Bill Savage returns in a strip that is a straight sequal to Invasion. Three years have passed since the end of the last script. The Volgans have control of Britain. It's 2003, time for Bill to lead a terrorist squad into action. Pat Mills and Charlie Adlard are the droids responsible.
"Don't buy that, it's by Jock - he wears a cape!" Unforgettable advice.
Multi-part Dredds abound next year. There's Cursed Earth action from John Wagner and Carl Critchlow, plus a Dredd clan tale with a new clone, Rico, Vienna and old Stony face. I believe Gordon has a 5 parter in the pipeline as well.
"It's only 4 parts, but I think it's a tester. If it does well there's opportunity for more. I'd certainly be keen to do more." Ian Gibson on the return of Robo-Hunter, written by Alan Grant.
Jocks star scan of Shako is incredibly gory and violent. However the worst offender under the obscene offences act was a joke in Young Middenface that could have landed Alan Barnes in jail if he's allowed it to go out...
"More Pirates. That's what 2000 A.D. needs. You can never have too many pirates. It's suffered from a lack of pirates. Red Seas returns in a fortnight..." Steve Yeowell.
The Sinister Dexter text story in prog 2004 has illos by Simon Davis, in a Famous Five stylee.
"The first four months are all Dredds world" Alan Barnes on the content of the Meg next year.
Sorry, that went on longer than I'd intended.
Damn good report tho - you should be a hack with ears like that!
"You're not having those!" - Jocks catchphrase.
What was the name of that dealer bloke?
And of course we found out what happened to Halo in the unwriten books. Ian told us not to say but it would have been great.
Yep, all of the above. Just as fun as last years but were there less attendences this time?
Having a natter with the art droids is still a top thrill and all were on top form, producing some excellent sketches.
Mine this time are:
LASER ERASER by Mike Collins. Great guy, great salesman and great annoyance that American Gothic isn't ready for publishing yet. Not an expert but i reckon this could by Mike's finest work yet. Cowboys vs Vampires - how can it go wrong?
HANNAH CHAPTER by Dom Reardon. Became pretty apparent that she was the most popular choice for sketch subject - odd that, seeing as she's been seen by a lot of folk as dead annoying. Testiment to Dom that he never got tired of the task and that each was totally unique.
BATMAN by Jock. Dead moody Bats giving off loads of attitude. You just wouldn't mess with this guy. Give Jock a go on the title would ya DC. Pretty please?
JOHHNY ALPHA by Carlos Ezquerra. As with Dom/Hannah and Jock/Dredd, Carlos has this knack of producing sketch after sketch of the same character yet making each individual. A charming, charming man who was obviously very tired but still had time for everyone. Thrill power overload indeed.
JUDGE HERSHEY by Boo Cook. Hah! Top bloke, great sense of humour and a dead enjoyable 15 minutes or so. He'd never done the gal before but you'd never know it from looking - plus she's talking to me! Cheers Boo
ROBOT ARCHIE by Steve Yeowell. Thought i'd go for a less obvious one this time and Steve certainly came up with the goods.
Also bought a page of Cabbalistics off of Dom - not sure without checking the back progs but think its the first apperance of Demon-Jenny. Great in print, fantastic in the flesh.
I'll have access to a scanner next week so all the above will be on the site then.
Oh wow. Wow, wow, wow.
I have so many highlights I know I'll miss someone out, so sorry in advance!
Shedcon and Dreddcon were both terrific, and I'm very grateful to so many droids for being so approachable and kind with their time.
Top thanks to several, in no particular order:
1) Dom Reardon , the Terribly Friendly Man Who Could Not Stop Sketching, for a beautiful Cabs page which he sold me despite really not wanting to because it had sentimental value.
2) Jock , for his constant kindness despite being very distracted by a dealer.
I had to wait a long time for my Jock sketch, but it was so worth it.
It's guaranteed to be utterly unique forever. For those who don't know, it's a portrait of... me!
I'll put it up on the site sooner or later.
3) Ian Gibson , for a Halo Jones sketch which was so beautiful I was actually a bit emotional afterwards.
I'll always treasure it.
4) Carlos Sanchez Robostogie Ezquerra , whose quick, skilled hands produced me a perfect Alpha is an impressively short time.
He was sketching for chuffin' hours. What a hero.
I also really enjoyed chatting with him, especially when he said, "I'm a very dirty artist." I think he meant what he draws. :-)
5) Gordon Rennie , for being great fun in various licensed premises over the weekend, and for giving me a real chuckle when he looked embarrassed to autograph my Necronauts book. Heh, heh, heh.
Also, he captioned my Jock sketch for me: "The biggest Loser of them all." The cheeky bugger! But I laughed. It was a line worthy of the evil fish himself.
6) Jamie Boardman , for losing several years off his life due to the stress of running a truly wonderful convention.
The venue was perfect.
SAME PLACE NEXT YEAR PLEASE!
7) The Mighty One himself, for chatting with so many of us in the bar and candidly revealing all sort great things to come.
8) So many others, especially sketchers Steve Roberts, Simon Davis, Steve Yeowell and Boo Cook and the ever-splendid Mr John Wagner , for actually remembering me from last year, despite the huge numbers of people he meets at cons.
It was also fantastic to meet up for what's become our annual message board Christmas night out.
I enjoyed a god laugh with so many fine fellows, including: Tiplodicus, DavidXBrunt, Paul von Scott, Slippo, Dudley (hell of a rhyming pitch, James!), Uncle Umpty, Gary Wilkinson, Oddboy, Art, Logan, Big C, Wake, Al-Says-Pop (sorry I had to leave the train so suddenly and couldn't say bye, Al!), Bart Diaz, Mangamax, Bolt-01 (who's also drawn me!), Mini-Bolt, who was a fine young lad, and probably several more I've forgotten.
I also enjoyed buying lots of stuff, including the excellent PJ Maybe Extreme Edition and even some new clothes, especially the new polo shirts.
It was a near-perfect weekend.
All we have to do is find a hotel that's not a shithole, and I'll have this convention thing cracked!
Now then...
+++ re-engaging evil fish mode +++
I hate you all, you mud-eating scumbags.
- Trout
Arses.
Grrr.
- Trout
Good taste, Oddboy. I also got myself two amazing Cabalistics pages from Dom, and for a very nice price. Trouble is, now I've got to find frames that fit.
Also got a great A3 Dredd from Carlos, and a Dane and King Mob from Steve Yeowell, and a Halo from Gibson.
The venue was okay, but it all seemed much lower key than the last Dreddcons. I was also dissapointed that there were only 4 PCs running the Dredd game (but I still had a good time with those incendiary rounds, tee hee).
Oh, and isn't Alan Barnes a nice guy (or perhaps it's all a clever disguise)? Even though I introduced myself by saying "I've no idea who you are, but you look like you know about portfolios.". I'll appologise now for butting in like that.
I feel cheated. The black tie thing I had to go to was shit.
I don't give a toss if Sara goes into labour on the same day next year- it's Dreddcon or bust!
Cheers all-
Matt
I don't know whether they're all so enjoyable, but I had a great time at My First Dreddcon. Going to have to work harder on saving though - kept staring at all these beautiful pages of artwork and thinking ("if only I had another two or three grand...")
Meeting all the messageboarders was a real highlight (wierd how half of you look like I thought and half are the total opposite...no, not saying who). Wish that I'd planned it better and will save my pennies so I can stay out all night next time.
Got a few photos which once I've finished the film will be scanned & posted to someone to put up here, namely:
Judge Wake (wearing juve-issue helmet)
The Trout's minion alongside Jock's portrait of same.
Jock in "negotiation"
Oddboy wresting artwork from Dom.
Also hopefully a photo of my own attempt at the Pitchfest, though I may be a blur what with shaking so violently I couldn't read from the page! Thanks to judges Spurioso & Rennie for their comments (which all seemed pretty fair and accurate to me), and kudos to Tiplodocus who came second by a single vote with a filthy fantasy.
Got very few sketches (comes from disorganisation), but a lovely Black Siddha from Simon Davis and ("yet another") Hannah Chapter with extra freckles from Mr Reardon more than made up for it.
Oh and John Wagner looked exactly like he should. He just should, that's all.
Judge Wake (wearing juve-issue helmet) The helmet Dudley is talking about is this one, cast by Don Post for SD Studios from Stallone's helmet. Casts shrink by about 10% so it's a tight fit - though it wouldn't fall off me if I was hanging upside down.
Dudley gets a special thanks from me for helping me carry my stuff from the Dredd the Law exhibition halfway across town.
I only bought two pages of artwork - the 'book page' and a Hannah Chapter page from Dom Reardon. However, I did buy the Dredd the Law exibition promo Dredd costume.
Wake
MK13, Dom and pretty much all the Nerve Centre team organised DC4, actually; I just flap about a lot at these kinds of things - but I'm glad you had fun!
J-Bo-can-I-sleep-now?-1
:-)
I wondered if I'd get a reply like that.
You were the one I felt sorry for, because you were the one looking most stressed.
- Trout
Some more things of note/highlights...
___________________________
"I have Dredds life planned out for the next 40 years" John Wagner.
He then went on to explain his plan: "The future of Dredd is Gordon Rennie"
___________________________
Apparently, no one had ever asked Dom for a Jonathan Brand sketch before, so he was quite chuffed as he does identify with the character (you all saw his IMO brilliant waistcoat, right?)
___________________________
Picked up the Definitive Maybe eXtreme Edition & then later got John Wagner to sign it - which he did in a great PJ style childish backwardlettered kinda way. Superb!
___________________________
Enjoyed an excellent Kung Po Chili Chicken at the breakaway buggered-off-to-the-Chinese-restaurant group, but to my shame I lost both pulls of a cracker to Si & Jock. Didn't want the pearl earings anyway. But Jock was kind enough to donate me the mini-screwdrivers.
___________________________
Watching as both Jock & Dom were duped into bidding for the oversized charity art pieces - they weren't kidding, these are HUGE! about 10foot tall by 3foot wide!
___________________________
DreddCon was absobloodylutely great fun.
Hope to go again next year.
>>He then went on to explain his plan: "The future of Dredd is Gordon Rennie"
I love John Wagner. He's great.
All great men are flawed, it appears. :-p
- Trout
Highlights:
Jamie's boundless drunken enthusiasm for his job and the great quote "I piss on Jim Lee!"
Tharg turning up at Shedcon with his cycle helmet
Seeing a load of lovely artwork from Dom Reardon
Trying to stifle a "eeek!" when seeing Ezquerra and Wagner enter the bar.
Being in Ian Gibson's way.
Monkey haberdashery
Tiplodocus' pitch...
...and subsequent Dom sketch
Feeling a lot better about my writing abilities after the ptchfest ;)
Meeting everyone and having a great time at my very first con!
There was a nasty rumour going around however that Grennie's a nice guy... didn't believe it for an instant :)
King Trout,
Extra thanks for reminding me it was time to catch the coach - I had no idea it was that late.
And despite Pete having left minutes before I did, I still got to the coach park ahead of him, such was I hurrying!
I just didn't want to have the hotel staff find a man with a Zenith keyring on the floor of my hotel room in the morning.
:-)
- Trout
Er, ear-ring.
Sorry; brainstorm.
- Trout
God i wish i was there
Well I had a thoroughly enjoyable time as well.
General:
It's just such a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the creators.
Everyone I talked to was just so utterly polite and charming and seemed genuinely pleased to talk to you.
At one point I was lucky enough to be stood at the bar having a brief chat with the three greats of the DREDD universe; John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra and Logan!
Sketches:
A rather lovely young Halo from the rather lovely Ian Gibson.
Major Eazy by Carlos - This was an important one for me as Carlos' was really the first artist I "recognised" when I was a young lad reading BATTLE. His work on Eazy and RatPack always had me pining for more - I used to endlessly copy his little bullet holes onto school jotters. So when i got Majow Eazy surrounded by little bullet holes, it brought a tear to my eye. (I was lucky and chatting with Trout when Carlos first came into the sketching room. He took a seat directly in front of us and the queue started right there!)
Mike Collins did a brilliant Ukko for me. Another thoroughly nice chap and the pencils he showed us from his new Western thing (with Ian Edgington look) the business.
The immeasurably nice Dom also did me a Playmate holding a chainsaw in a rather unusual way (at Odders request, I might add). I was also fortunate to buy a fabulous piece of Caballistics art from Going Underground. Dom even offered to draw a little knob on it for me.
Pitch Fest
Yet again, I thoroughly enjoyed myself pitching. I hope some of the audience enjoyed listening.
Al Ewing's Terror Tale will be well worth a read. As gruesome and atmospheric as you'd expect - I was imagining the first page as drawn by Dom in my head as he spoke.
Round of applause to all the others who took the time and courage to pitch.
Bar:
So many nice people, so little time. Apologies if I didn't get to talk to you (and apologies to some of those I did!). And did you know that the lovely Paul Cornell has got a great book called British Summertime. (It was funny to see him leaving with his Cosmic Ray 'tache on).
My only downer was that:
a) I was too stupid to bring any books for Carlos to sign
b) there wasn't a graphic novel or TPB that I could comfortably buy for my 12 year old boy. BUTTON MAN and NECRONAUTS, fab as they are, just seemed a bit old for him. PVS put me right in the bar though, so I'm off out to track down APOCOLYPSE WAR for his Christmas.
I even managed a nice chat with the nice Simon Spurrier on the train back as well - thanks for making what could have been a nightmare journey much more pelasant and interesting.
And that WAS Hannah Chapter at breakfast the next morning - uncanny!
HAIRCUT 100 was blasting out FANTASTIC DAY as I breakfasted with Trout and DXB. I have to agree with the pint sized eighties pop genius.
Oh yeah and add Simon Coleby to the list of artists that look like their art (or is it the other way round).
And I noticed that all of the young creators had spikey, hair gel maintained haircuts. And all of the old creators had rather nice side partings.
well I am back at work and almost recovered.
that was one of the more enjoyable cons I have been to, even if I didnt actually buy any comics or get any sketches. I was too busy talking to everyone.
for me the highlights were:
seeing Boos face when he realised that Wagner had sat down next to him on the sketching/signing panel and watching him try and hold it together.
seeing Boos face when he got a Carlos sketch, he nearly cried, it was so sweet.
In Henry Flints absence Carlos proved himself to be another contender for the nicest man in comics award. and his tash was sooo sexy.
I also enjoyed blagging the late drinking gang into Jongleurs, turns out the doorman was a big 2000ad fan and treated us like VIPs. very good.
I also enjoyed mine and Logans re-education of a non comic reading Oxford student, we had him converted but then he kept talking about boobs and was being a bit weird so I left that one to Logan.
but for me the funniest bit was getting back to the hotel with a very drunk bunch, by pal Matt was trying to push Boo down the stairs and the next thing I see is Jock yelling; 'stunts, I love stunts' and jumping down the stairs landing on Boo. we then got told off, so moved the mayhem into my room where a fruit fight broke out. Jock obliterated an orange and than ran away- I decided to take my revenge and ran downstaris to hurl remians of said orange only to have Mike Collins give me a very disappoving look, but =I was only seeking revenge honest!
theres loads more silly stories, such as Dom Reardons nose being half a centremetre longer than mine not to mention the weird penis beast drawn by the latey gang.
and to Dom and Jock, sorry we didnt stick about on Sunday but Boo was a little worse for wear so he headed on home.
but cheers to everyone who I was chatting away to.
A superb day out.
Oh yeah? Well, well, I was in the toilet at the same time as Simon Davis and Grennie! So there!
Damn my natural shyness. Never did get to say hello to any droids!
I had a good chuckle as I realised Tips was at the urinal, "flanked" by Dom Reardon and Mike Collins.
- Trout
Quote decided to take my revenge and ran downstairs to hurl remains of said orange only to have Mike Collins give me a very disappoving look, but =I was only seeking revenge honest! -Gem
Dissapproving, nah...that me trying to focus after all the Tequila Sunrises... you did us proud getting us into the club... also tops was the free drinks the manager brought us for me doing him a Slaine sketch (at 2.00am!).
A really good weekend, hello and thanks to all that wandered by me doodling away...!
Mike
Actually I had to supress a chuckle yesterday when I was speaking to a number of Droids I used my normal name. They have probably no idea who I was. It was totally unintentional.....
Yer Slips
'also tops was the free drinks the manager brought us for me doing him a Slaine sketch (at 2.00am!). '
I'd forgotten that. they were bloody horrible luminous shorts though. think it directly caused my hangover (not the numerous other drinks beforehand, of course).
Good to see everyone on Saturday. Felt appalling Sunday, but there you go.
Oh, and Gem is our new leader. Blagging us into a nightclub on the cheap. Nice one.
Rob
She was organising you all for the restaurant in the most impressively totalitarian way.
Also, many of her comments on the retail workers' hate thread make her seem impressively assertive and possibly evil.
I shall pay her a compliment: when I take over the Earth, she will be one of the people I must destroy first, in case she leads a ragged but futile revolt against me.
(Hi Gem. Meant to say hello over the weekend but didn't get the chance. You look NOTHING like Janet Street Porter!)
- Trout
...but you do look like a surprising large number of people in Dead Men Walking...
I certainly did feel like a zombie Sunday morning!
Is that a Sunday morning that's been murdered and reanimated?
Anyway, I want more Dreddcon stories!
Anyone?
- Trout
Well Hi and thanks to everyone I met, though I didn't hang around for long post-wind up... serves me right for going along on my own.
Met enough people talking about the board to swing round here. Great day out btw, even if the droids were too interesting to get to many of the talks...
Highlights for meself:
Samantha Slade sketch by Ian Gibson. Even if he wasn't too happy by it. Oh and get that man writing HJ 4 and 5. Please.
Simon Colby sketch of Mean Angel - it was better than you thought and I hope Carlos didn't think you too much of a fanboy ;-)
Steve Yeowell choosing to draw Zenith, because he was in the groove.
Simon Davis doing sektches all damn day.
Steve Roberts doing Dredd for me.
Mike Collins doing the same.
And boo cook. What Can I say, other than Zombies... Did any get and "officialS" 2000ad drawings out of him.
Missed Dom and Jock. And I must have been the only person not to get a Carlos sketch.
Dan
Dan - I missed out on a Carlos sketch too!
I was in the que for Ian Gibson when Carlos first turned up, and didn't want to change. Cruel - making me choose between the two.
oooh, just look at that tash!
when I got the chance to speak to him I just wanted to stroke it, but i think that might have been crossing the boundary in the fan/creator relationship.
I seem to recall stating that Carlos Ezquerra is the Des Lynham of comics.
I think you may have already crossed it :) and who was that loverley little child you were playing with and lost your water to?????
Yer Slips
I've just remembered the excellent panels that Mike Collins had from the Daily Star strips featuring himself as an evil Stookie glander.
Finally, Online long enough to post.. and everyone has pretty much summed it up- eerrr yes, enjoyed myself heaps- a real pleasure to meet all the boarders, Ian Gibson and Alan Barnes.
Cheers to PVS for making the journey down and letting me ride shotgun.
My weekend didn't end until about eleven last night- Longman, who couldn't make it to the con and myself had a few jars in the Bridge, north Leeds (Urrgghhh.. still feel brittle) a Kind of mini-post-con-shedded-fest-thingy-Cheers LMS.
B.
Yeah, I got an offical 2k sketch out of Boo. And it was Ace.
Heh, heh.
Sssssh David! We must no longer suggest Boo for any insane revivals... :-)
I also got a proper 2000AD character from Bou - Jude of DMW.
I asked for a cameo, too, so he drew Tharg himself alongside.
- Trout
well I think Dredd Con was rubbish...
except its gotten a new boarder posting !
hello & greetings to Dankell, don't be afraid of the natives, hang out & join in, always good to see new faces.
the rest of you are all rubbish.
I wondered when you were going to turn up, girly.
Slightly verdant, are you?
It was great, Bou, and... hmmm... just for a bit of extra effect...
YOU MISSED IT!
BWAA HAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAA!
What must you never forget, land-dwellers?
Oh, and hello new boarder. It's a great board, honest.
But not everyone's as nice as me.
- Trout
But in missing the do and becoming so envious that she turns Green Bou has probably never before stood such a chance of catching Thargs eye.
All's well that ends well.
Thanks for the welcome, Just getting used to the (slightly esoteric) board software, and the fact that when I click on the board link from the front page, I get asked to post, rather than read...
Dan
Hello all,
This is Dom on Jocks computer.
Thanks to everyone for making it a splendid weekend.
Gem- Jock and I totally lunched out breakfast too :)
Whats this people are mentioning about Hannah Chapter at breakfast?
Also I feel obliged to point out that it was I who was the dick who used to wear a cape and not Jock... it's actually a very nice cape that my mother made for me, which I still wear on cold and rainy days...
Congrats to all who pitched at the pitchfest the standard was excellent and I had real trouble picking favourites... Al's , Gems & Tips were particuarly good!
Who won the Pitchfest?
Al Ewings, though I suspect that Tips was an inch away from winning, he got Thargs vote anyway...
So is that two in a row for Al now? Pitch-fest king?
Nah, Art won it last year, but Al has won before.
Dom, Hannah Chapter did indeed turn up at our hotel at breakfast time.
Her hair and glasses were exactly the same and she even had the furry collar on!
- Trout
Ah, but was she clenching a chainsaw?
the cape wearer revealed! I had a feeling it might have been you Dom,given your elegant dress sense. you should let Jock have a shot on it though, he seemed quite upset that he had never worn a cape.
Thoroughly recommended late-night venue for next year: small and strange Lebanese restaurant serving very funky food and even funkier strawberry flavoured wacky-baccy Hookahs, Mos Eisley Cantina stylee.
It was one very relaxed El Spurioso that crawled into bed waaaay past his bedtime, still humming the shit-aliens-with-melon-shaped-heads Mos Eisley theme: Dum dum dee dum diddle dee, diddle-dee-dee-DEE-dee....
Heh. Capes.
Dom - Hannah Chapter was spotted in our hotel on Sunday morning. It wasn't just the hair, the glasses, the fur collared coat, it was the body language, the scowl. It was uncanny. If you and Morgan Freeman had been stood either side of her it would have been like a Cabals photo story.
Al did win the one at Bristol, though not the (non-tharg endorsed) winterfest one.
Ah, right. Fair enough.
- Trout
Hi all,
Thanx to everyone who came and said hi at Dredd Con, luverly to meet you all.
Erm...yep, I was a total fanboy in the presence of the Great Ezquerra, but that's excusable, I hope. Got the sketch framed and hanging on my studio wall now!
I look like my drawings?? But I was doing loadsa sketches of Mean Machine...scabby, ugly, bald and grumpy.
Ho hum...:-)
Simon Coleby
I wonder how Mean would look with a tiny little tufty beard?
Heh, heh, heh.
- Never forget the Trout is evil
>>I wonder how Mean would look with a tiny little tufty beard?
Probably a bit like Andy Diggle, I think.
Ah, so it's a tufty beard that gets you recognised in the States, is it?
Has Entertainment Weekly named Best Breakthrough Tufty Beard for this year?
- Trout
My weekend didn't end until about eleven last night- Longman, who couldn't make it to the con and myself had a few jars in the Bridge, north Leeds (Urrgghhh.. still feel brittle) a Kind of mini-post-con-shedded-fest-thingy-Cheers LMS
No worries mate! Had a cracking time and it made up for missing Dreddcon. Of course, the weird moment was when I went to take a piss and remembered that I'd left a pan of water to boil at home. Rushing out of the pub, leaving behind a very bemused looking Bart Diaz, I managed to run 50 yards before beginning to wheeze like an old man. So I power walked the rest of the way. Found the pan - white hot - on the stove and it didn't actually fall to pieces until I'd got it to the sink.
Still, lucky escape! It's amazing what you remember when you're taking a piss.
Since you seem to be the only boarder in Leeds I now demand we regularly get pissed ... oh, and you're invited to my house Christmas party on the 20th, if you're free ;o)
FatBoyDale is from Leeds.
Hope you zipped up first
Hope you zipped up first
Well, considering the state of the loos in The Bridge, who's gonna know?!
FatBoyDale is from Leeds
?
Received a mail from Carlos with a message he wanted me to pass on:
Please say thanks to all the fans from the 2000ad online site who were there, they are a great bunch of guys!
Carlos Ezquerra: artistic genius and perceptive gentleman.
Three cheers for Carlos!
Hip! Hip!
Hooray!
May I add a Huzzah! to that Hooray!
No.
Well for all I know Dreddcon could have been an evil scheme to infect you all with ebola so it's a good thing I didn't go.
Yep.
who are the boarders in this picture then?
I think its PVS, Bart Diaz (not sure with this one), myself, Big or Mr C in fonz pose, Trout minion standing, Uncle Umpty and DXB......

I've only just managed to get on a computer long enough to post a mesage about the weekend. So here goes...
First off, we arrived late, which didn't bode too well. None of us had ever been to one of these things before. On the door I realised that I already had a ticket to get into Dreddcon, so if I'd brought it with me, I needn't have paid. As it was, I did, but I did get a free Johnny Alpha Heroclix-thingy, which had a particularly gormless expression on his face. First point of call was the downstairs bar, where drinks were bought and fags were smoked whilst we built up the nerve to go a'rambling. After wandering around aimlessly for a while, watching my mate buy a load of 2000ADs with Bad Company covers so he could get Brett Ewins to sign them (he never turned up, of course), we ended up playing multi-player Dredd V. Death, which I surprisingly won, which put me in a good frame of mind at least. Going uipstairs, the first thing we saw was Carlos Ezquerra drawing a face-off between Dredd and Johnny Alpha. Now all sense of trepidation vanished into the ether. One of my friends pointed out that we were actually standing in front of Ian Gibson, which came as something of a shock - we didn't recognise him without his moustache! The bloke in front of us was getting a rather nice Halo drawn for him. Then it was one of my friends turn, who elected to ask for a rather spiffing Luiz Cannibal ("Oh god! I haven't drawn that in years). Then it was my turn and I persuaded Mr. Gibson (possibly my favourite 2000AD artist) to draw me B.O, the sewer droid from the Robohunter story Verdus. Despite the fact that the character only appeared in one story over twenty years previously, he diligently strained to remember him ("He stole Sam's cap didn't he?") pulling off a fantabulous little sketch. It was fascinating watching Gibson at work, as he starts from the top dow, drawing the hair (or in my case the cap) and then drawing everything underneath it. Next up, a friend of mine went and asked the lovely Simon Davis if he would draw a picture of Ganesh in a mini for me, which h dilligently did, and looks bloody marvellous to boot! Whilst he was doing that, me and my other mate were queing in the massive Carlos Ezquerra line. By the time we got to Mr. Ezquerra, his wrist was virtually snapped off, but he still managed to pull off a confused looking Gronk for me (even though the bloke in front with the cute little girl in the pushchair nicked my idea), and I finally got to meet the legenday Ezquerra moustache. Oh my poor heartses! It was funny to see even hardened professionals such as Messirs Coleby, Davis and Cook go all swoony and fanboy-ish in front of the Inimittable Mr. Ezquerra. In fact Boo Cook could be heard to remark, as Ezquerra had just finished and was getting up to leave (possibly for a drink and a splint for his arm), "Erm, you haven't done that picture of Wulf for me yet, Carlos". John Wagner made an appearance, and seemed in fine fettle, joking around with both those queing and with Carlos Ezquerra as they sat next to each other, quickly trying to eat their lunch. It was at this point that I realised that I'd left my copy of The Bogey Man at my mates house, and would therefore be unable to get Mr. Wagner to sign it! Depressive anger is not the word! Next up, ny mate started queing for Boo Cook, but then overheard him tell the bloke in front of him "I'll probably call it a day after you", so we decided not to push our luck and moved on (my friend was particularly dissapointed as he wanted a picture of an alien washing slave from Dead Men Walking, whilst I was hoping to get that cute little alien that got so brutaly murdered near the end of Asylum). I was hoping for something from Mike Collins (Zirk or Pressbutton, maybe?), but missed him. I was going to get Mr. Coleby to draw me someone drinking a pint of slugs, but he kept mysteriously running out of the room (perhpas because he had the exact same hairstyle and clothes as my younger brother and didn't want to confuse me). Finally, I provided probably the strangest request that any artist had that day when I asked Steve Yeowell for a sketch of Hitler (from The New Adventures of Hitler in Cut and Crisis magazines). I wanted something different from the standard Zenith, so I was going to go for Acid Archie, but the bloke in front of me got that. Mr. Yeowell was probably a little surprised by the request, especially as he hadn't drawn the character since the early ninties, but did it anyway and produced a genuinely beutiful picure, as well as coming accross as very firendly and a real nice guy. Having done the sketches, I got myself a copy of the new Extreeme edition (all P.J. Maybe, hot damn!), some Best of 2000AD's that I didn't already have (Freaks, for example, or the one that had the Hells Pocket, the Ace Trucking story drawn by Ian Gibson). Sorry that I didn't say hello to anyone, but I didn't know who anyone was, and I had two grumpy mates on my hands who hadn't eaten all day, and I needed to go into town to buy some pills. So we left, but even as we did, we could still see Boo Cook, who should probably be awarded something for the lenghth of time he spent sketching, who was still drawing away for expectant looking faces. Goddamnit!
An interesting account, Byron, but next time try paragraphs. :-)
- Trout
>(even though the bloke in front with the cute
>little girl in the pushchair nicked my idea),
Umm, I think that was me - so at least I got Mr Ezquerra to practise drawing gronkses for you.
I hope you badgered Mr. Wagner to bring back the Gronk too...
Steve
That was the little girl who seemed fascinated by Gem???? When she was sat down at the side next to Boo?
Yer Slips
I think that was because Gem used her wrist mounted hypno-device to entrance the kid.
Did Ian ask how many eyes B.O. had? Because if he did then I was standing just behind you Virgo.
The kid was obviously well trained. Distracted Gem by inherent cuteness and went straight to her bag and nicked her mobile.
One can only be proud of children today.
Well, I'm a happy bunny. I had a great time and thanx be 2 God! And everyone else who made that possible. Heroclix Johnny Alpha looks like a stareonaut.
Highlights: Starting Shedcon at 5pm with Trout. The very strange spirts behind the bar ('What the hell is 'Song of the South?!') Having a well dodgy (and small) curry and the bad stomach the next day. Beating up Jock.
Arriving at the Con to told 'You are best current writer in 2000AD according to Comics International!' 'What!!' Being disgusted at not being able to get a beer at 10:50am. Talking writing with lots of people including Spurrier. Ranting at O'Reardy. Getting scandelous gossip from CENSORED. A rather splended chinese meal.
By accident hovering around the right table just in time for Gibson to turn up (and then being able to move straight onto the then short Carlos one). Having Carlos run off after he heard my request (well he said he needed a toilet break but I'm sure he wanted to get a quick reference)... but he did me a loverly Stain
Getting a self-portrait as a zombie from Boo.
Getting the last sketch from Steve Yeowell(Dancer)
I remember that scandalous gossip. It made me feel dirrty.
Carlos did you a lovely stain did he Gary?
Did you read Viz in the Ashmolian?
... Stainless actually. And yes I did read Viz in the Ashmolian (The post-mod Chester strip)
Heh, I fully expected Longman to come back with sooty face, hair on end and a smoking pan handle.. How lucky are you?!!
Aye Slips, that is me in photo nxt to PVS can't think what I'm saying.
Christmas house party? Ace.
B.
Can't be arsed to look and see if he's uploaded it, but I happily Byron's Gibson sketch of BO's really nice.
He sent me a copy and it's now on my office pin-board, with the smelly chap glaring happily across the room.
Gary - the spirits in that pub were weird, but I had most fun laughing at the cola, which was made in Tadcaster, of all places.
It tasted quite nice.
- Trout
"...next time try paragraphs"
Oh, dear! It did turn out rather long, didn't it Mr. Troutses?
"Did Ian ask how many eyes B.O. had? Because if he did then I was standing just behind you Virgo"
Yes he did, and I erroniously told him two (luckily my mate put him straight - hey, that rhymes!). If you were behind me, then were you the bloke who asked to have a look at my mates rather splendid sketch of Luiz Cannibal Mr. XBrunt?
"Umm, I think that was me - so at least I got Mr Ezquerra to practise drawing gronkses for you"
So, Mr. Pyroxian, you were the man who stole ideas from my brain and got Mr. Ezquerra to put them on paper. In all fairness, I forgive you as long as you teach your sweet-looking little daughter to respect the Gronkses and all their strange ways and never to kill them for their warm, snuggly skins. Plus, my sketch was much nicer than yours anyway!
"I hope you badgered Mr. Wagner to bring back the Gronk too..."
Actually, I never spoke to Mr. Wagner, as I felt too stupid to speak to him after I forgot my copy of The Bogey Man that I brought specially for him to sign. However, if anyone fancies joining me in stalking Wagner and Ezquerra, dressed as a giant Gronk in order to frighten them into reintroducing the character, please feel free.
" I forgive you as long as you teach your sweet-looking little daughter to respect the Gronkses "
Hmmm, no I don't have a daughter, so maybe it wasn't me you were thinking of. I know I was in front of the sprog, and I did get a sketch of the gronk (or a gronk - they all look the same to me).
"However, if anyone fancies joining me in stalking Wagner and Ezquerra, dressed as a giant Gronk in order to frighten them into reintroducing the character, please feel free."
OK then.
Steve
Yeah, I did indeed ask to see his little canibal. You do know you'll be able to say that you enjoyed getting B.O. off Ian Gibson now, don't you? Not many can say that.
Byron's BO is very nice.
- Trout
My favourite moment was when Jock told Fat boy Dale that he couldn't have the artwork for the covers of the Losers after him badgering him for what seemed like hours. The reason being he had just learnt via text that Andy Diggle had just been named Entertainment Weekly's break out talent of the year! Those covers are going to be worth a lot more than Dale was going to pay him and if he hadn't tried to hassle him he would have walked off with a bargain a long time before Jock got that news.
Well done Jock and a round of applause for Andy.
I'm still laughing at that one, Madgirl.
I didn't want to butt in because Jock's an adult and business is business, but I was desperate throughout the negotiations to scream, "Nooooooooo!"
Happily, Jock did the right thing.
By the way, it may have seemed like hours, but it was "only" one hour. Only.
Madgirl, were you the terribly nice lady who was dismantling the stall and admiring my Jock portrait?
- Trout
Heh Strange thing is I can only remember 3 women actually being there and I m sure there were more.
Gem because she used her hypnotic watch trick on that cute child whose dad was in the Carlos queue and only because she was sat next to myself and the watcher.
Some woman in very large purple boots, who wore a t-shit that said Ill wear black till a darker colour is invented or words to that affect. I remember her because of the t-shirt.
And Dr Bob....
Yer Slips
Nope King Trout, it was an hour of pretty persistent haggling towards the end of the day but the fella was at it on and off throughout the day.
Full credit to Jock for standing his ground, made for some uncomfortable silences didn't it?
"Some woman in very large purple boots, who wore a t-shit that said Ill wear black till a darker colour is invented or words to that affect. I remember her because of the t-shirt."
She came along with the chap who was demoing the heroclix stuff - she was a big comics fan. Can't remember her name now though...
Steve
Yep that was me. Black trousers and blue lace up shirt. Husband is Alan who was doing the panels. My job was to run round and make sure the creators had all they wanted and generally anything else that needed doing.
That was a very nice portrait. I think i commented that it had a bit of Cancer Man about it.
Roll on next years Dreddcon.
Actually thinking about it i had changed to a white shirt by that point!
Madgirl (I know your name but not going to use it if you want to be incognito): I didn't realise yuo posted here too.
You were very niceto my son Daniel, and thoroughly enjoyed your conversation in the lloonngg queue for Carlos.
Never got to say bye though.
Bolt-01 (Dave)
Hi Bolt, Decided to come on here after the con as i was so stoked about it! so this is my first time, i admit it i am a newbie.
Wasn't it great seeing Carlos. What a star. Did you get home in time and not get into trouble?
Mad girl: Yeah thanks, credit to Oxford park & ride for having a bus turn up just as we got to the stop!
The spent the whole journey listening to the people sat behind us discuss Dredd after seeing Dan get his Figure out! "Oh, thats Judge Dredd, he was big in the seventies!"
Bolt-01
Yeah one of the students on the door said that to me. So i enlightened him. Some people have no idea what they are missing!
See you in May! Best to Daniel.
Finally got around to putting my Dreddcon4 sketches up on my website...

Really we need to see "Dead Man Wanking" and "The Biggest Loser Of Them All" side by side.
:-)
The Biggest Loser will be on the net soon, honest.
I'll get to it sometime next week.
