ohh back pain.

they say that tooth ache back pain and child birth are the three most painful experiences a human has to endure something to do with the body not making the anti pain supressants for the three of them compared to all other types of pain.

i disagree on the childbirth one. i never felt a thing when my son arrived.

done this also. can completey understand how uncomfortable you are right now.
( and dont believe them when they tell you acupunture is not painful. it works YES, but its bloody agony)

It must be... the link fairy!

Sorry to hear about your agonising, excruciating pain Dave. Take comfort in the fact that my endless typing, games playing and poor circulation will leave me with crippling arthritis by 30.

Heres a real link.

Bad back... well suffering off on for years you have all my sympathies. If it gets too persistant see a good physio (your gp will do sod all)

(your gp will do sod all)
the severity of sod allness will of course depend on where you live, my poor mothers spines gone wierd & 6 months later is waiting to find out if its cancer or what, don't you worry NHS, you take your time like.

hope this improves fast David. i suggest one of those back fellas if you can get the cash together, ortho, osteo...? you know what i mean. they should be able to untrap said nerve. Have you tried walking, swimming, wierd stretching movements ?
also sleep with pillows under knees, do try & relax as much as poss, pain management can be done thru breathing too, reeeelllllaaaaaxxxxxxx & deep breatheeee..

if i was there i could show you some spine stretchy , deep breathy yoga martial arty hippy reiki stuff. but i'm not.

I had a trapped nerve once when I was in Uni. I could not move an inch it was so bad. I took 2 prescription pain killers, a green egg(whatever that is) and smoked a joint. Woke up next morning jumping around the room as good as new.

The trick is to totally relax. Something that is extremely hard to do when you're wincing in agony.

ARGH
Trapped nerves suck - ultra painful. I have no advice, just hang on and wait for the pain to clear. And be glad you haven't been stabbed - that hurts even worse.

Cheers people. Industrial strength pain killers have meant I can at least hobble around relativley pain free. I've also rang in sick for tomorrow. Maybe I'll be well in time for my next shift on Wednesday.

As for a physio/accupunture, well that's the one advantage of still living at home. My old mum is a chartered physio and trained accupunturist with a practice that works out of the house, so I've had plenty of good advice and help right here. Nice.

Dead right Bou.

I suffer from terrible problems with my lower back (something to do with the sacrum).

It gets jammed up and is bloody agony (it's in the family, after my sisters second child was born something around hers broke and she had to have bone grafted from her pelvis onto it to make her walk properly again - a reason not to have kids hey!!)

Mine got far worse playing a certain sport i enjoy.

I rely on an oesteopath to straighten it up a couple of times a year, at it's worst i am in constant pain and can get to the stage of struggling to walk.

what does the GP do? absolutely bugger all.  If there is not a pill for it they could not give a shit as far as i can see.

Class example of GP brilliance: i have just received a letter following a scan i had 2 years ago confirming i have gall-stones.  2 years!!!! It got lost in the system!!

I have been in increasing pain and kept going back to the doc who just said she'd have heard if there was anything wrong (never thought to chase it up it seems).

So i'm left feeling like a hypo for years getting in increasing pain.  Now i'm due to have treatment within 20 weeks.  I feel like going back and being smug as hell to her.

nhs in uk
my french girlfriend in uk, after ages waiting, gets x-ray..they say nowt wrong, advised physio..sent for massage at hospital MILES away

system in france
she goes to dr, gets sent for x-ray for next day..x-ray, specialist, says problem with disc or somet, very common, just be carefull, will need to wear back brace if kids etc. etc.

french system one of best in world BUT its 70% paid by state and rest up to you ( most have insurance for that )

Wouldn't hurt too much to have a system like that (speed wise anyway) here.  I work in the NHS and I can see first hand all the arse ups it, and the GPs make.

David: Hope the back gets better.  Like most in the NHS I get back problems and all I can suggest is take the pain killers and don't do lie down a lot, it will just stiffen and get worse, keep moving (a little)

Hi David -

Ouch, sounds bloody painful!  Don't know if there's any logical reason why this works, but I've seen a copper bracelet do wonders for people with various bone/nerve pains.  In fact, now I think about it there really is no reason it should work, it just does.

Dope also sounds like a good option.

My sympathies. I've done the whole lower back  pain thing a few times too many, even been hospitalised twice. It's not fun.

Luckily it hasn't happened for the last three years as I try to keep my weight in check, which helps a lot. As does regular exercise and lots of stretching.

GPs are crap.  I've had a groin strain for the last four years (don't start) and I'm still waiting for physio on the NHS.

I also know somebody went to his doctor for depression, only to be told that he wasn't depressed at all- simply "bored"!

Yeah, because a grown man burst into tears in front of his doctor due to boredom.  Riiiight...

As people are listing their respective pains, I'm reminded of holding up people on the stairs at Dreddcon, limping slowly with my buggered knees. Thanks for being patient!

it was my birthday on friday 12th, but i spent most of it in bed (but not in a good way)... i was looking for some clothes for my 3yr old, when she called out to me - i turned and, forgetting that i'm 6'2" and crouching under a 4" stairwell, cracked my poor poor head

i was out for a couple of seconds, saw plenty of stars, and have felt permanently stoned/pissed since and am off work

unfortunately it hasn't put me off my food, which means i'm bloating out and it's now even Chrimbo yet

ho-bleedin-ho

doctors ? doctors & depression ? grrrr, well after all the trauma i've had this year from my boy, emergency late night calls to police & doctor cos he's suicidal, smashing the place up, trying to run me over etc...the doc sees him once, gives him a wee lecture about safe driving, says sorry we can't give him pills too dangerous, says he'll refer the case to some family shrink person. months ago. nothing since. absolutely nothing.

luckily weve dug in & been sorting things out ourselves, but what the hell are people supposed to do if/when they can't?

nope our glorious nanny state is all very cosy until you step between the cracks in the pavement & you are fecked.

oh yeah & there was me limping in agony for nearly 2 years with a walking stick, for feet problems which turned out to be really simple to treat. arch supports. 2 fucking years gimping & fecking my knees up just for the sake of waiting for arch supports?! thankyou doctors who just shrugged & gave me painkillers.

can i list my ailments later? goodie.

In the spirit of Scrooge and Bah Humbug! shall we list what ails us - be it seasonal, curable, or "ya fecked for good"?

I would jump in but feel i need a run up - on my hands and knees...

Anything to do with back pain is horrid, best o luckmate

Oh yes... back gets worse and worse nearly losing me my job, second non-small town non-rubbish physio immediatly spots need for arch supports and too-tight ham strings... said arch supports (and that's a whole saga in itself getting them from the NHS) a bit of stretching and not getting too unfit and lazy and hardly any problems since
