i like that one..erm, you missed it out, its really miserable & goes

"they said there'd be snow this christmas, they said there'd be peace on earth, but instead it just kept on raining, pale tears for the the virgin birth...etc etce"

whos it by ?

sadly ive caught myself singing to the tune of the most evil song ever, tho at least i violate the words a lot. thats the ...cringe... cliff "christmas time, mistletoe & wine.."

I HATE SIR CLIFF ! yuk yuk yuk yuk

"Sir" Cliff's seasonal atrocities would drive Jesus himself into the bosom of Satan.

Fairytale of New York? Best Christmas Song EVAH!

"Merry Christmas your arse, I pray God it's our last"

genius :)

Emerson lake and Palmer, Bou.

And yes, Cliff is evil, he bathes in the blood of virgins to keep himself vaguely youthful looking.

Best Christmas song? Slade of course, although Bing Crosby comes very close with White Christams if only he'd stop singing over that poor bird all the time!

Youthful looking?? Have you seen his neck? It looks like a monkey's scrotum.

Emerson lake and Palmer

IIRC, it was just Greg Lake on his own. Not that I'm a fan of the track, I hasten to add. :/

I must stress that I do not pretend to hate anything... I love the good X-mas songs from your list:

Slade / merry christmas ecverybody
Wizard /i wish ti could be
kirsty mccall and the pogues. tale of new york city.

Other goodies:

Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) the Darkness

The whole Spearmint "Oklahoma!" album (very Christmassy, albeit on the whole highly depressing)

Christmas carols in general, favourite being Silent Night.

Anyone heard the Belle & Sebastian song O come o come Emmanuel - it was on the Xfm Xmas album from a few years ago - great song.

Really *don't* like Wham's Last Christmas, it SUCKS.

Merry bloody Christmas, plebs! :-p

Not heard Stop the Cavelry or BandAid in the shops this year yet... so it's officialy not Christmas

The other day I heard a hidous cover version of the stone cold classic Slade by some bird singing into a vocoder. So bad it drove me out of the shop.

Fairytale of New York is the best (though Slade does come close). There was a brilliant documentary about the song on the telly last year. There's been some truely hidous covers of it... one by one of the hidous boy bands and one MOR lyric-less version that is one of the most hidious things I've ever heard. Oh and how is Shane 'pint of rum and black for breakfast' Macgoven still alive?

I love ALL Christmas songs (mostly in a cheesy way, but hey) save the Queen one bizarrely, and a bit iffy on Cliff's stuff. I hate no man more, but some are just ingrained, a part of Christmas.

Bastard.

Oh, and I love Chris de Burgh's "A Spaceman Came Travelling".  It's Christmas: what's the point in having good taste?

Just bought the D.V.D. of White Christmas to replace my Dad's battered V.H.S. He plays it nearly every day of December up to the 25th, and he's had it 10 years at least, so it must have been played a couple of hundred times by now...

The great Shane is not yet dead, Gary.

IMO, Fairy Tale of New York is the greatest Christmas song ever.

I've only heard one good cover, by the equally great Christy Moore.

'ya scumbag ya maggot ya cheap lousy faggot'

That line's been changed on some cover version to the more PC sounding

"ya scumbag ya maggot you're cheap and you're haggered"

I what White Christmas on the telly every year. Bring a tear to the eye and a warm glow to the heart... "We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go!"

i think Kylies littel christmas cover of all i want for christmas struck a chord as well.
though it may have had more to do with the little red and white fur number she wore in the video

and this years new one. so bad its brillant.
christmas is all around by billy mack. from the love actaully sound track.
now thts a superbly bad one.
but tale of new york is my all time number 1.

Band aid still has it in spades. (80s rocks)

My least favorite Christmas song is one by Mariya Takeuchi that gets played a lot this year.  Next is the Paul McCartney one `SImply having a wonderful Christmas time` after that....roll on December 25 (when all Christmassy music disapears here)

seasonally yours,

Does any one else not think that either Pete Waterman or Simon Cowell knew where Saddam was as the release of their Odious (pop idols) cover of War is Over, seemned to perfectly coincide with his capture......  :)

Ozzy & Kelly in at number three!

(Wow - I've not listened to the top 40 countdown in YEARS! Not since Pearl Jam's Spin the Black Circle at least.  It's quite exciting!)

Bah humbug.

Mad World gets Number 1 with a complete lack of sleigh-bells, the Darkness are number two. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely song, but it's sod all to do with Christmas.

It's a very very mad world.

Fairy Tale of New York gets my vote..

Always had a soft spot for Greg Lake's 'I Believe in Father Christmas' (I think it's called).
