Would have thought using the name "Tharg" on the show menat he - or a script writer - was a reader rather more than him appearing in it. After all, around the same time you also had Shaw Taylor and Bruce Forsyth in Dredd but i can't see them being Squaxx.

Didn't Tharg appear on the Tube - I also remember seeing Alan Moore on a kids Saturday morning TV show, pimping Swamp Thing(!) and presumably casting a dastardly spell over the NAtions unsuspecting youth!

You're almost certainly right - if you read about O'Neill's input into strips like Marshal Law & LoEG, you'll see how many of his own interests/hobbies/obsessions make their way into the comics.
