Title: arghh! recommended best deals for ISP's ?
Post by: Queen Firey-Bou on 20 January, 2004, 08:09:42 PM
ARGHHHHHH !  i just lost my free internet connection. Tiscali had made some blunder which meant we were never charged for our anytime package. But recently wrote saying if we didnt stop using more than 150 per month we'd be stopped, so I've been careful, but alas the dreaded boy has been gaming all nights, so voila Ive lost me free connection...

whats the latest best reliable cheapo deals out there? which companys do you guys recommend or not?
bearing in mind Broadband is some years away here.

bastards, just when i was starting to earn some bread thru the net too... saffin raffin scuzzpucks.. & how do i stop the boy charging up huge phone bills now? when i'm powerless to stop him nicking cash ?

not sure what deals are about for ISPs at the moment, but I have a feeling BT can put a block on your line that stops you making outgoing calls unless you type in a code number first, or something?

Or remove the phone wire from the socket & keep it on yourself, perhaps coiled around an arm or leg, underneath clothing so he doesn't know where it is.

Some ISPs have childlocks that allow you to stop them looking at certain pages, restrict the time of day they can go on or restrict the amount of time they can spend on there.

Or you could beat them.  With big sticks.  This doesn't solve your immediate problem, however...

Don't pay the phone bill.  Get cut off.  Tell son it's his fault and he has to pay the reconnection charge - or you're not reconnecting.

Who provides your telephone, Bou?

If its BT, then your probably best off trying for service with them, but ive no idea what they charge per month.

they should also be able to apply a 'call bar' to your line, which can be used to block outgoing calls. They should be able to set this to block either all calls, or just the expensive ones. If its anything like what Telewest can provide, then you'll have a pin number for the service so that you can use the phone whenever you like.

If you live in a Telewest area, then you can get phone line rental for 10.00 a month, and unlimited dial up internet for another 13.00 a month (as long as you avoid highly expensive porn!).

If not, then i advise calling whoever provides your phone and seeing what they can offer.

If you need any more Telewest info, just let me know!

... and I can give you any info you need on Telewest's broadband service, but I assume that's not been rolled out to your area yet.

nope this is the problem, BT refuse to provide broadnand here due to sparce population which makes a mockery of all the big noise about IT & internet being the future for rural economies... villages up the coast can't even get a phone line out sometimes the exchanges are so old, never mind broad band. Theres a big campaign to get people to sign up, but its getting no-where fast.

meantime, i'm looking at an 'anytime' flat rate package, theres BTyahoo, tiscali ( newname ), some lot called Giointernet... so far, theres some interesting other packages, like daytime, ?4.99 a month, or one for businesses which is 3.99 (iirc) for 1am til 8am overnights...

ive removed all the passwords to try & foil the boy, but its just excuses for more war really.

Is the Tesco deal anygood?  I'll have a look next time I'm in shop.  I use Tiscali, pay as you go thing, at home, but as I am lucky enough to do most of my surfing in work I don't use it that often.

How you making money Bou?

started flogging my wares on ebay rather than to non-existant passing punters wod. very time consuming & not sure if it'll run much profit , but better than staring at ceiling or a life of crime.
