My wife has her viva - PhD oral examination - today. This determines the entire course of our lives (and whether I'll be stuck selling data for another few years).
So any religious boarders with space i their prayers - please add us in!
James
I'm not a man of the good book Dudley but I send my best wishes and hope the best for you both.
Ed
neither am i, but you know how when you want someone to phone you and they say if you think about it hard enough you'll get a call from them? I'll do something like.
That's nice Jen, I know what you mean, some of my friends have been going for promotion recently and I try to project my "GET THE PROMOTION" on them, so far I've done well and things have gone well.
Wonder if PSI wouild be interested in us?!
Ed
"Wonder if PSI wouild be interested in us?!"
for a while there i was all panicky over what to do with my life but suddenly the solution has presented itself.:)
Time for bed for us chosen ones then, we've a busy day tomorrow concentrating on and psyching people out ... average day really ;-)
Ed
One prayer duly delivered! Keep me posted.
Floyd
another one gone up dud,if your wife gets the phd, which im sure she will ,does that mean u get the chance to retire, and become a house husband.(my dream anyway!)
Surreal getting prayer requests from a message board, but okay.
You a Christian yourself Dudley, or are you just hedging your bets?
Yours in Christ,
Nathan.
I'm not a religous man but all the best for her exam today. Hope it works out for both of you.
You do realise that if I do this and that all goes well (as I'm sure it will anyway), I'm going to absolutely *insist* that you regard it as irrefutable proof of the existence of God?
I don't know, Dud- you just walk into these things...
;)
Duly said.
To balance my karma:
A friend in the office once got lost in the Scottish Highlands while travelling to a foreign court. Lost and lonely, he pulled over at the next farmhouse and went to ask directions. The door was opened by a deranged looking woman in her dressing gown, who told him "please excuse my appearance, I've been boning up for my vulva".
My how we laughed. Boy, how he ran.
Good luck Duds.
WoD
Dudley, you shameless hypocrite ;)
Nevertheless, I shall be happy to channel my psi-powers into the ether on behalf of your wife.
I was going to say something about Dr. X's story, but Bou would probably hit me if I did ;)
CLANGGGGG ! being psi i heard the thought anywey..
what the heck is a viva exam?
Dudley, i would do better if you posted me a photo & lock of hair, but i'll send my powers your way anywey...
In return for all the selfless prayers that have been offered up, I'll plead 100% guilty to the charge of being a shameless hypocrite. She's in with the examiners now. I'm shitting bricks.
...Dudley
I'll plead 100% guilty
S'okay Dudley, we'll forgive you.
S'what we're here for, after-all.
faxed god...hope it helps
I hope it went alright.
SHE GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WITH FLYING COLOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHAMPAGNE HANGOVERS are just as bad as normal hangovers.
Many thanks for the good thoughts and prayers.
...Dudley (married to the world's shortest genius)
congratulations!
But you're so going to get it from eyebrows now... :P
Actually, he already got it (along with congrats, of course)- but the board seems to have eaten my reply!
Typical. If that doesn't shake my belief in a sane and orderly universe governed by a benevolent Lord of all that is- nothing will.
;)
You married Gary Coleman from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century?
Now what's really weird, Paul, is that I wanted to make the same joke- word for word.
Chilling...
I wear the blandest t-shirt and olive colured jeans possible. At the moment I'm going a fairly odd non-tramp period. I'm even washing...
Sorry, wrong thread.
see! see! it was all that positive karma we threw your way.
plus, also, i'm sure your wife's a genius...
Congrats! and just as predicted.
Happy Days!
Eddie
PSI Division
yeah but what is this exam? why have i missed half the jokes on th ethread ? its cos i is a heathen aint it ?
congrats.
so, what is she going on to do (that was hangging on this)?
Well, she can now go on to become a lecturer. If she had been badly "referred" (= told to go away for a year and a half and rewrite) she'd probably not have been able to get a job afterwards in the extremely competitive English academic market.
She's also trying to decide whether her first book will be on "Disintegration & Death at the end of the 20th Century" or "Women Writers and William S Burroughs", whereas if she'd failed or been badly referred she'd have been trying to find out how you sign on and what careers accept 28 year olds with no work experience.
So, all in all, a pretty big deal. And to get what was described as "the best pass in 4 years" in English lit at her university DESPITE English being her second language - well, words fail me as to how cool she is.
Many thanks again to all boarders for kind wordsa and thoughts.
James
No thanks to God? Pfffa! You fickle bastard! Eternal damnation surely awaits you...
;)
brilliant Duds, congrats to you & missis.
a nice admiring supportive husband you are, i approve. go go the two of yous & good on yous !
Belated congrats.
Praise be to God.
Congratulations Mrs Dudley and Mr Dudley!
Excellent news, hope everything goes well for you and she gets a nice cushy position!
I`d go with Death and Destruction if I was her, but I`m sure she knows best. What is her first language?
You are now obliged to give your life to the Lord, Missionary Man style. Or not, as you choose.
belated crongrats on wife and achievement,
Floyd
Missionary style?
The Lord receiveth only roundeth the back.
