Title: Bloodline for Extreme Edition!
Post by: paulvonscott on 26 February, 2004, 06:30:21 AM
Basically the bloodline stuff is some of the most exciting Dredd I've read, and I'm guessing a lot of people have missed some or all of it over the years.  I think a Bloodline Extreme Edition would be a BLOODY good read AND allow people to understand the way it has all gone.

Text features to fill in areas like Oz, Necropolis and that Judge Clone mission to the Cursed Earth.  Maybe with some important panels and pages reprinted.

Then all the bloodline shorts.  Even the original Rico stopry would be nice.

Not sure if there would be room for any vienna stuff, but that would be good too.

Some Judge Rico stuff:

Blood Cadets 3 episodes (Progs 1186 to 1188) 18 pages

Some Kraken Stuff (91):

Bloodline 2 episodes (Progs 583 to 584) 18 pages
The Shooting Match 1 episode (Prog 650) 6 pages
Tale of the Dead Man 7 episodes (Progs 662 to 668) 54 pages
By Lethal Injection 2 episodes (Progs 669 to 670) 13 pages

Starting to think that you really need a Bloodline Book 1, and then follow that up sometime later with more recent stuff.

The Kraken stuff with articles and excerpts from the rest of the stuff would be good on it's own.

You could maybe add the first Rico story in, but you could also make a pretty good Rico Dredd/Judge Rico/Vienna one.

5 posts in a row, that's enough to be declared insane.  Cheers ;)

Should have left the lists to the professionals I guess ;)

That's a good point Logan, and one I was drifing towards.  Personally a Rico Dredd or a Kraken would would suit me.  As I think Judge Rico and Vienna may be on the whole too recent.

I'd love to see maybe a new story from Wagner (has to be Wagner for this one) in any potential bloodline Extreme.  Maybe see Rico Dredd in action as a Judge or add a bit more to Kraken.

That would be worth the price of admission alone.

i like the idea. but given the current arc of scripts i wonder if this may be a little premature.
had it been ran prior yes wonderful idea.as we have just enjoyed with bill savage.

i would like to see this in the coming years. before we finally get the long awaited/feared epic.
when we finally say farewell to the origanl dredd in some way.

Sorry but I've missed a few years in here somewhere.  What I get for leaving the fold I guess.  Kraken I'm well aware of, Rico (new) I'm just getting aquinted with, but who is Vienna?  I've heard the name a few times recently.

The Judge Dredd Mega-Special Nr 3 contains a Justice Dept. Report by CJ Silver all about the bloodline (as it stood in 1990).

The bibliography lists the following as important events leading to Necropolis.

Return of Rico (30,31)
A Case For Treatment (389)
Revolutions (531-533)
Oz (545-570)
Bloodline (583-584)
Shooting Match (650)
The Letter (661)
Tale Of The Deadman (662-668)
Lethal Injection (669-671)

Can't recall how many of these have to do with Bloodline, and hom many are more "Necropolis-specific"

The Mega Special #2 contains data on the democracy movement, (which could make a great EE), and the Justice System.

"who is Vienna?"

Rico 1's daughter and Dredds niece. Created by Pat Mills aaages ago (Logan?) and reappeared later in a surprise story by Wagner where he made the idea make sense continuity-wise.

Vienna featured recently in "the satanist" (Logan?) which I wont spoil but dealt with Dredd's reluctance to get involved in Viennas life and it's consequences.

As with the Rico 2 stories these are must-have Dredd tales. Superb stuff.

>Rico 1's daughter and Dredd?s niece. Created by Pat Mills aaages ago (Logan?) and reappeared later in a surprise story by Wagner where he made the idea make sense continuity-wise.

Vienna first appeared in Prog 116 by John Wagner & Ian Gibson

The discrepancy in continuity was finally resolved by Wagner in ?Blood & Duty? Prog 1300 - 1301

This must be released!

I suggest we all send contact emails to Tharg thru the site, in the hope of pissing him off to the point where he releases it just to shut us up!

Or something like that.

Yeah, it's a great idea. Some of these are things that I've wanted collected for a while but that's a mighty good list. The Blood Cadets/SectorHouse/Leaving would make a fine graphic novel actually.

Don't want to hijack the thread but love in the big meg could be a fun E.E. Bella Bagleys three tales could bookend the special with perhaps that Robo-lover story from v4 Meg and other tales that touch on the subject. As long as there were a Walter tale to show his love for Dredd I'd be happy.

The EE format is an excellent showcase for 'unusual' reprint material, however Rebellion try to use the EE to enhance something in the 'Jump-on', hence Savage this time.

The next one is due out at the end of May, IIRC, so does anybody know what else apart from Savage is in the next jump-on?

Or am I being thick? Chopper is due back isn't he?

No we don't want an EE of the Bloodline threads we want a nice big GN of it. Think the Making of DvD but A4 size.

I don't really care how the Bloodline stories come out, it would just be nice to have them collected. Though I don't like the new Titan reprints in general because they aren't printed on the right paper for ink work like the old original Titan books were, on matte card paper instead of the new glossy shiny stuff which loses some of the tones.

The Titan reprint of collected Halo Jones was terrible, the original Titan books are far better.

Extreme editions are ideal for this sort of thing, they can be mass produced and get everyone clued up to what exactly is going on, especially as Dredd is becoming increasingly complicated.

That original "Bloodline" story in progs 583-584 concerning Kraken is seriously powerful stuff, as good as the original "Return of Rico", makes the hair stand on the back my neck like no other comic for it's intense characterisation and closeness of the "bloodline" clones; and Simpson's art is fantastic. Two of the most memorable progs I own.

I consider the ongoing story arc involving Dredd's clones and kin throughout the years will become higher profile as Dredd ages and we see more of these clones hit the streets in various tales as we are right now... a collected works would be ideal for all, the whole back story always raises questions and "Bloodlines" would be ideal to provide the answers and certainly something I'd certainly buy.
