Woooohooooooo!!!!!

They are rather stunning... though Giant looks a bit girly.... like the new Alpha

"Blackblood rocks!!"

Well, of course ;-)

Some very nice figures in there, despite the obvious limitations of the scale. The only really poor figure is Giant, though Hammerstein does look slightly strange. The rest of the ABCs are cracking, Joe Pineapples being particularly good, and the new Alpha is a real improvement.

They look good, but so far Wargames foundry have only done any 2000AD related figure release very half-heartedly.  If they get their act together and make all the figures they've done so far readily available with decent postage rates I'll probably buy them.  They alwasy seem to try and put enough barriers between you and the figures so you don't buy them, which is crazy.

Do a load, reasonably priced, some non-horrific postage price and have a full page ad in 2000AD, they'd sell em buy the bucketful.

I bought the first four because I could get them at a wargames event, and they were nice figures.

Mmmm, dunno.
The new Hammerstien's not a patch on the first version, Giant and the new Alpha are a bit off but Morriguns nice and the Pinapples is so Bisley its untrue.
Since when is blackblood blue????

impressive though. black blood details very strong.
giant im not to sure about face like don uggie. thats not meant in the way it may be construde. i just feel it looks ape like, even the body mass has a poor proportion.

i would be intested in finding out prices and postage when they are realeased.

Don't know why they've gone with another Alpha and Hammerstien - especially as we know that a Mongrul has been produced.
And Paul - don't hold your breath waiting for them to reduce their outrageous p&p amounts. We just refuse to pay it no matter how good the figure.
Much better to arrange a day out to Nottingham and pop round to their warehouse to pick them personally.

On the whole the figures do look nice, but I'm not sure about the Giant and the Alpha figures.  Just something not right about them.

The Blackblood and Pinnapples look realy good though!

The postage thing is weird.  They went for a couple of months before Christmas with free postage while they "re-evaluated their postage rates" and then appeared to settle on - exactly what they were before.

One of the few things that makes me glad I live just down the road from them.

Blackblood looks all right, but doesn't he have a peg leg? The rest are poor. The original few were alright, but could have been better, instead we get new versions which are worse. I hope the figures for the new Dredd game from Mongoose are better.

Also, I agree that Foundry's postage rates are prohibitively high. Sure, if you buy 8 packs at once it's free, but what if you don't want that many figures? I has certainly put me off buying from them in the past.
Title: update
Post by: Stu on 17 March, 2004, 06:27:39 AM
update from the Foundry website...

"FIRST 2000AD RELEASE. The first collection consists of six models; Judge Giant, ABC Warriors: Hammerstein, Joe Pineapples, Morrigun & Black Blood and Strontium Dog; Johnny Alpha, only ?25.00 POST FREE! Tim Prow has done us proud and so far has produced over thirty 2000AD models, and they are stunning. Send us your email address and we'll sort out some images for you, so you can see what Tim has been up to, but don't expect to be able to buy them all next week! sales@wargamesfoundry.com."

Post by: paulvonscott on 17 March, 2004, 02:02:13 PM
There you go, over ?4 each. I knew there would be problem.  What they've done is take a reasonable price, then add a load more on (probably including the postage) just so they are now at the 'maybe not' price range.

Thirty 2000AD models for ?120.  Yeah, great.
Title: Re: update
Post by: Leigh S on 17 March, 2004, 02:32:19 PM
Yeah, they appear to have just lumped their unreasonable postage cost onto the cost of the figure... ONLY ?25.00??

If they averaged out at ?3 each, I'd still be arguing with my wallet, but over ?4 each seems more than extortionate.  Bah!

After seeing those figures - most of which look great, btw - I'll have to revise the opinions of a previous Meg column:

Judge Giant is clearly the gayest character in 2000AD.

I think my patience is pretty much burnt with Wargames Foundry.  The first lot, I thought were about the most I'd pay (just over ?2).

I'll wait and see if Mongoose Publishing can do better!

Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: Leigh S on 18 March, 2004, 01:32:34 AM
Can anyone see why they are so much?  The other miniatures on the site tend to average around ?2 each (if you buy a set of 30ish for ?60), or 8.50 for 4 or 5...

?16.50 more for 1 extra figure is just way to much for me - any reason?  If they did the 30 2000AD miniatures they say they have prepared at ?60, I'd go for it - is this a possibility?

AiiiEEE! Now there are some great minis there (liking Hoagy, the Nort, Torso(!) and the Stix Bros in particular)... If they didnt feel like such a rip off I'd snap em up in a second... If they did some kind of scheme where you subscribed to them mebbe, and paid less on the agreement you'd buy the lot, then that would work for me.  Or, as I said, a bulk buy price... as it is, I'd find it hard to persuade myself (let alone Mrs Watcher!) that I wasnt being ripped off under the ?25 for 6 deal...

Grrrrrr!

Agreed, lovely figures, criminal price.
Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: Stu on 18 March, 2004, 05:23:18 AM
In Foundry's defence, 4 of the figures are ABC warriors and so will be quite large (if the previous, better version of Hammerstein is anything to go by). Games Workshop would charge about ?9 for a fig of about the same size e.g. a troll. They'd also charge you 5 or 6 quid for Giant or Alpha as they're special character. Of course GW figs tend to be better than these (IMO) and people often say they are overpriced too.

Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: paulvonscott on 18 March, 2004, 01:36:21 PM
Charging more for character figues is a shite thing to do, and comparisons to GW, don't make me look more favourably on Foundry.
Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: paulvonscott on 18 March, 2004, 02:44:56 PM
Right, I've complained.  It's unlikely to get me anything more than a strained response, but at least I tried.

Companies can of course charge what they want, and if they want to charge three times their normal rate for figures for 2000AD stuff, then that is up to them.  They have licenses and sculptors to pay for.

But then again, I think they could make more money if they sold them at a more typical rate.

They are even selling a wide range of 2000AD characters, without the option to buy them seperately.  Just want that nice Blackhawk figure?  Tough.

To a potential customer, the whole company is grossly unnapealing, and as I said before, there are enough barriers put up to prevent any but the most determined to buy their 2000AD range.

Here's my reponse from Wargames Foundry, I hope Bernard dosn't mind me passing the message on.  Everyone is happy with the prices, they should be priced more, and are cheap at the price offered seems to be the message.

Still, I'd hate to try and play a wargame with the rogue figures (as was my intention).

Hi Paul,
The first preview pack was to cheap and was done as a sample loss leader. These figures are stunning and we believe even at ?5.00 each they are a bargain. You can not even compare these figures to our normal blisters as they are in a completely different category. Everyone else who has emailed has been pleased with the figures and there price.
Bernard

I think you forgot to include the rest of bernard's message, paul:

"PS.  So piss off, you cheapskate moaning bastard.  The rest of our customers are willing to sell their children and remortgage their homes in order to get their hands on our finely-crafted figures, so why aren't you?"
Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: Devons Daddy on 18 March, 2004, 03:47:36 PM

here is a reaonable comparison

how much do we pay for hero clix figures?
given we have to buy a box.hope for the lottery pick to give us what we want.

in comparison are they really over charging. though the postage smacks of ebay over charger through and through.
Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: paulvonscott on 18 March, 2004, 04:12:18 PM
That was the impression I got Gordon.  Then again everyone thinks I'm a cheapskate moaning bastard anyway, so why should I worry?

I didn't expect them to like me for it or even change their mind (though I hoped they might).  I only complained because I actually want to buy these things.  Not at prices Franklin Mint would be ashamed of mind.

Still, there is another...

Mongoose publishing are putting together what sounds like a cracking Dredd skirmish game, so hopefully we will get the chance to see what they do in September.

As it is, ah well.

Personally, i don't mind paying ?4.00 a pop but i'll be buggered if i'm gettting the set - that 2nd Hammerstien is CRAP!
Title: Re: Foundry 28mm 2000AD figures !....
Post by: Leigh S on 19 March, 2004, 12:54:00 AM
I can understand that the figures are going to be a bit more for licencing purposes, but even so.  The average small character figure appears to be ?3.00 from a games shop (didnt try GW, but as PVS says, they're probably not a good example of value for money in action!) and packs of more than one often average out at below ?2.00 each.  Those pushing ?4.00 or more tend to be larger than average models - Hammerstein looks a bit bigger, but the others all look average size.

If someone like myself feels it's a price too far, (who I'm ashamed to say will spend money on just about any 2000AD related stuff) then these are only going to appeal to either someone more hardcore than me (a man who covets the gronk knitting pattern!) or to gamers hardened to these kind of prices.  If I felt the company were trying their best to offer me a good deal, either with bulk discounts or individual figures for those who just want a Sov Judge, say, I might feel differently. As it is, I feel they are missing a trick of enticing a few more casual purchasers.  After all, you would hope that the reason they got a licence would be to broaden their market to people who otherwise wouldnt buy miniatures.

For all their faults, they do have a killer service - sent the cheque off Saturday, they would have got it yesterday and i got the figures today.
Wasn't going to buy the pack as the Hammerstien is crap and i already have the much better first version.
Cunning folk that they are, this new - and subsequent - release is smaller than the packs they put out a couple of years. Meaning if i want to have a full set of ABC Warriors i can't use my much too big Hammerstien.
Still, the others make up for it with Joe Pinapples easily being the best, Giant doesn't look too gay in the flesh and the Alpha pose is nice but the face is a bit off.
Might cut one of Blackbloods legs off and put that pnuematic drill on instead.

There aren't any new sculpts on that page - however, more of them are painted now!

There is a new scupt for Don Ugglie Apelino on the site somewhere.

They're nice minis (Sam Slade's great!) but they're still no easier to obtain, and they're still a fiver each...

A lot of the figures on that page are out now - should be a couple of pics of mine below - but the page is notorious for being so slow at updating.
Also, the old rule of the painted one's being the available one's isn't true any more.

Yeah, I noticed that they have done a few for Slaine, one with Ukko, one with Cauldron another with the burning Spear. There's  a Skullsword, Nest & some taken from McMahon's, including  Slaine Warped.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing a more classic version.
