Title: 2000AD Taxi
Post by: Banners on 10 May, 2004, 11:39:40 PM
Thought I'd be the first to point out the obvious, but why kill off a character and then use her one of the main images in your advertising campaign?

Aside from that, a very cool idea. Good luck!

Hear, hear. Durham Red was well past it's best years ago - hopefully this time Tharg will have the sense to leave it dead & buried.

I don't get why the only chose two characters, I'm sure they had room for more (Lobster Random, Cab Inc.'s Jenny-Demon, or even Chopper)

Also as has been said it's a bit strange to start touting Durham Red just as her series seems to have drawn to a definitive close. Mabey her Graphic Novels are popular with the whips and chain brigade (nothing wrong with that).

It seems to me that 2k would be better served advertising it's current range of stories at the time they come out, why weren't there Levitahan previews in Empire Magazine, why not a Devlin Waugh pin-up in the Gay timesI might be taking the piss ther a little) or Chopper in skate magazines.

It is nigh on impossible get a casual reader to buy into the 2000ad brand as a whole but if you could hook them in with one story that floats their boat they could be in for the long haul.

Also back to the taxi while i like the over-all design I'm not sure if the placement of the text makes the remotest bit of sense.

" Mabey her Graphic Novels are popular with the whips and chain brigade (nothing wrong with that)."

IIRC, the latest Durham Red TPB went to a second printing (there was a news piece about it on the main page) which would suggest that it's fairly popular, at least compared to the other books in Rebellion's current catalogue.

I like the idea of more targeted advertising, and strip extracts in particular mags is a great suggestion.

Yes, Vermin Stars sold in a ridiculous time, or so I'm told. They were taken aback at just how popular it was - even the second printing is pretty much gone by now I think!

Talking of Taxis - anyone recall the 2000AD adorned Taxi from 1977?  There were pictures in a prog/special/annual IIRC...

And what about that exclusive strip that appeared a couple of years ago in the back of cabs, with Anthony Williams art - any chance of that for the MEg after all these years?

JOCK image again i note.
and rightly so.

i will not mention, image of character no longer in the comic or the fact that at this time jock is not drawing for it either.

such little things are insignificant when balancd against the fact.
REBELLION ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF GETTING IT RIGHT,

good marketing tie ins, excellent choice merchandise, lots of graphic novels. american tie ups,
i have been critical in the past. now its time to say well done guys.

I agree: Rebellion is doing a good job. Now, if only the company could convince someone in Fleet (or even Basingstoke for that matter) to stock the Judge Dredd Megazine.

I like the idea of putting a Devlin Waugh one-pager on the backs of toilet doors in every gay pub and club.

Yeah this is great news!
I also wondered why they picked a character who's just finished in the comic, but the GN thing makes sense, I guess.

Next thing: Billboard posters & bus-stop posters!

btw, while reading the prog on the bus this morning, I was sat next to a man (who looked scarily like the scary bald be-specticalled guy from the atrocious Halifax adverts) reading a Spiderman book.
Comics are definitely becoming very public transport.

Ironically, Durham Red was the one thing I didn't want to be seen reading on the way to work!

DD - maybe you could fashion the prog into some form of handglider..?
