Post by: GordonR on 29 May, 2004, 07:48:32 PM
Very good showing for 2000AD at the National Comics Awards in Bristol last night.

2000AD -Best International Comic
Don Reardon - Best New Talent
Dredd - Best Character
Henry Flint - Best Artist
Necronauts - Best Graphic Novel
2000adonline - Best Magazine or Website

Hurrah for printing the voting form in the comic.  Block voting does work!

The Artdroids group was up for an award, presumably best web site. Any news on that?

Well done to Dom, truly well deserved.

Yeah, good show all. Necronauts is a gorgeous presentation and DoM more than deserves that award.

It's always good to see 2000ad being recognised for being the trully exceptional comic it is!
Well done to everyone who works so hard to bring us our weekly thrills!

Best Independent Comic: Solar Wind

Best drunken impromtu 'speech' when nobody else would collect the award on behalf of Paul Scott had not arrived: Some idiot in an orange shirt.

The best slightly suprised acceptance speech sure has to be the one for  2000ad online, which was basicly "Thanks, we're changing it all next week".

I started to get up to accept that SW award as well- but Gary lept to his feet (possibly the fastest that *anyone* has ever seen him move) and pushed me back down again with his mighty bear paw while shouting, "it's mine, it's mine- I'll fucking kill you all!".

I thought it safer to remain in my seat.

Ah. Cheers.

What about the un-2000ad related ones?

Of course Tharg repeatedly going on about the awards for the last three months couldnt have done any harm and the fact that 2000 was one of the only comics to print the voting form.
Not saying the awards werent deserved but the majority of votes must have come from here.

La Placa Rifa,

As I said at the time, who would have thought that vote-rigging could work for good as well as evil?

But not all the winners were 2k related (at the risk of incurring a Solar Blast I'm counting the Indy award as such). So there must have been some other people voting... mustn't there?

Pah! Their puny vote organising skills were insufficient, and as such their favoured choices *deserved* to be consigned to the runners up pile.

I think that most of the others probably had creators working for tooth too.
