Sinister Dexter: Gunshark Vacation
Looks pretty good, and I'm almost positive it's been designed by the 2000AD editorial staff. The "Gunshark Vacation" text is pretty nifty (love the fin!), but the logo across the top is a little iffy.
For anyone with worse eyesight than me, the 2000AD sticker/logo reads:
"The UK's greatest comics, now in the USA!"
Sums it up perfectly, IMO :-)
The Batman/Dredd collection just reuses the classic image from the cover of Judgement in Gotham.
Try again:

hmm, glad I didn't suck-seed then.
Lovely cover..shape the 2000ad logo is just a little bigger...
Oh, and for anyone who's interested, the cover is a modified version of the cover of prog 1064, with the background pulled & replaced.
Not the greatest Sin/Dex image, IMO, but it makes a pretty cool, accessible cover.

Well, it can only be a good thing this whole malarky, but really there's a big part of me screaming 'why this?!', I really fucking hate these guys, especially the clown.
Design looks good, I like the logo, not obviously as keen on the pic, as it's a pic of those two guys I hate. Does that say Sony instead of Fony? Oooooh... cease and desist!
How many pages are these things?
Do my eyes deceive me, or does the credits bar across the top actually say it's by Abnett, Davis... and Funt ???
What the funt?!!
Paul -
I'm not the biggest fan of Sin/Dex myself, but this is the early stuff - when they were still good - and it's probably a fairly accessible book for the US market.
And if releases like this mean I get to see stuff like Robo-Hunter & Strontium Dog released, I'll be happy to oblige!
**Dirty Frank is counting the days to the release of the complete Verdus**
Is Gunshark Vacation the one with the improbable voodoo plot elements?
Usher - that's "F L I N T"
Doh. I feel like a daft Clint now.
"The UK's greatest comics, now in the USA!"
Surely - it should say "The Galaxy?s greatest comics, now in the USA!"?
Is the content different from the old 'Gun-lovin' Criminals' GN ?
Yep - this new TPB is quite a bit different. When the TPBs were first announced, I posted a guess at what I thought would be included. Jamie corrected a few bits, but it's still broadly accurate & you can see it at the link below:
Link: TPB contents...
No, the voodoo one was "Smoke & Mirrors."
--Grant
Do like the way that 'DC Comics' is a lot smaller then the '2000AD' on the logo!
For some reason I thought these were comics, not collections.
DF: No, they can release what they want. They are releasing more things I want to read, than not read, so that's okay with me.
As always, interested to see the results, I'm fully prepared for it to be bewilderingly popular.
"For some reason I thought these were comics, not collections."
Well, the original plan was to publish the "2000AD Showcase" series in traditional US comic form, but at some point it seems that the DC deal became a possibility, and Showcase went very quiet. I'd assume, given what I've been told, that Showcase was simply shelved in favour of this - far better - deal.
So there's no comics being done, just collections?
So, it's *about* 144 pages, then, and doesn't include Smoke & Mirrors? Sounds like a quality product to me. Excellent.
"designed by the 2000AD editorial staff"
...kinda correct. It was designed by new staffer Luke Preece, who'll be doing all the GN design work for me.
The BATMAN/DREDD collection is being designed by DC; that'll be the only one that is, though.

It's Clint Langley I feel sorry for :P

AFAIK, that's right PVS. Jamie could probably clear this up, if he's around...
...yes.

GUNSHARK VACATION is 128pp, and contains the following stories:-
SINISTER DEXTER
NERVOUS REX
MAX VACTOR
DEATH AND TAXIS
THE ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT
ALIBI OF BROADWAY
WISH UPON A CZAR
FAMILY MAN
LEARNING KURV
GUNSHARK VACATION
It will hopefully be the first of several SINISTER DEXTER collections - we're doing series of the series, if you see what I mean.
I understand that SINDEX isn't everyone's favourite, but I remain confident that once we're up to THREE (!) books per month next year, there'll be something for everyone to like pretty much month in, month out.
And one burnt-out GN editor, natch.
J-Bo-but-then-again-I'm-going-to-San-Diego!-1
The current plan is to just do collections, and - POSSIBLY - some crossover stuff, which presumably would lead to further collections. We'll be discussing that further with DC in the months to come.
There are no plans at this time for any kind of monthly US comic, although I'm currently working on a one-off convention special for DC, along similar lines to the one they've produced with Humanoids, as a promotional device and to introduce the comic and characters to the US comics market / book trade.
J-Bo-1
My monthly comics bill is too big as it is.
How much are these going to retail for in the US?
and any smarty pants who can translate the numbers from monopoly money into true moolah.
Well I can't wait! I'm buying everything and am then going to turn into the worlds most unsociable bloke!
Thanks a million Jamie, your efforts really are appreciated by the vast majority of us.
Pete
That's great Jamie, I think I hadn't been listening when the original press release went out, it's all so much clearer now. Cheers.
I can confirm that THE BATMAN/DREDD FILES will retail here for ?12.99, and SINISTER DEXTER: GUNSHARK VACATION will cost ?10.99.
J-Bo-1
Cheers, Pete.
Remember: these things are *BOOKS*, which means you don't immediately need to rush out and buy everything the day it comes out; we'll be maintaining stock levels on these for some time.
Not that I'm *against* the idea of rushing out and buying it all immediately ;)

DC announced the rest of their solicitations. Between these, Starman: Grand Guignol and two volumes of Morrison Doom Patrol, my wallet's a-gonna be *hurting*.

...And once more I thank God for me comp box ;)
J-Bo-1
Pauls point about the Sony on Dex's brow - is that going to need to be edited or can it be used as is without fear of litigation?
It's been cleared with the necessary legal teams.

MATURE READERS
Don't think these have been posted here before. Taken from the September Shipping List and ripped off from Comicbookresources.com
7.375" x 10.187"
Is that regular US comic dimensions?
No - this is larger than regular US comic dimensions, but smaller than out current page size - it's a proportional format which means that although we're shrinking the art a bit, it will still look good. It's the same size DC are doing for the Humanoids books, too.
J-Bo-1
I'm guessing turning Dexter into Wesley Snipes on the cover was to get the Americans interested?
sorry just had to mention it again
STARMAN: GRAND GUIGNOL TP
Written by James Robinson
Art by Peter Snejbjerg
Cover by Andrew Robinson
This massive trade paperback - the penultimate volume in the STARMAN saga - reprints STARMAN #61-73! Jack Knight's worst nightmare becomes reality, as Opal City burns to the ground and chaos ensues, with hundreds of villains seizing the chance to strike.
Jamie - is there any chance of a Revere book popping up somewhere along the way? Really fancy getting to read it...
I can't really discuss titles that I haven't confirmed with DC, I'm afraid - and we've yet to confirm the 2005 schedule.
I will say this: slag off Simon Harrison's art at your own risk, it appears he's a 2nd dan black belt in Shaolin Ngor Kung Fu...
J-Bo-1
I could take him...
