It's Tura's catch-phrase/tick dating back to the very first story.  She always has a ten-dollar bet on some unpleasant outcome, sometimes explicitly but more often in her head, and she quips 'ten dollars' when she's proved right.  Which is often.

Ah right, so basically a combination of 'bad luck' and 'told you so'. Thanks, also for the excellent primer. It clarified, even after having just read the old Damnation Station issues.

Perhaps because Davis was really good on the old Damnation Station (progs 1677-1692)? Just read it because I was getting confused on the current run and thought it might help.

Aha! Glad I found this post. Wanted to say how much I way enjoying The Off-Lode Experience in this month's bundled floppy, but couldn't.

How can I tell I'm not a bot? It feels like I'm human, but how can you really tell?
