General / The Meltdown Man
01 May, 2009, 11:53:38 PM
Trawling through the Extreme Editions, I found out that Meltdown Man had been reprinted in this magazine.  I vaguely remember this from 2000AD of old and found the storyline intriguing and managed to get Extreme Edition issues 11 and 12.

So far this story seems to be a bit dated obviously, but still quite enjoyable.  Parts of the artwork are really nice and other parts remind me of the story "The Terminal Man" that was printed in the old Spectrum Crash Magazine.  Art is by Bellardinelli who I believe went on to do the Ace Trucking Co and is suitably oddball along the way.  I'm only about 3 quarters of the way through the first issue, I had forgotten just how long this story was.

Anyone who sees these issues should pick them up for something a little different and in my opinion at least a little almost forgotten gem from 2000AD's history.

General / Harlem Heroes question?
01 May, 2009, 07:54:55 PM
I asked recently if the Harlem Heroes was going to be rereleased and was directed to the Extreme Editions.  I managed to get the issue with the Heroes reprinted, and while the story that had been present in one of the early annuals (1980 or 81 I think) was present and seemed to be correct, I'm wondering if It was edited.

I seem to remember a story where the Heroes were playing a German team and the crowd were chanting "Sieg Heil" and if the Heroes did well, things like "Boo, Hate".

All very cliched and perhaps a bit unpc, but I don't see this in the reprints.  Now, is my memory correct and the reprint has been edited, or is my memory slightly faulty and was this part in another strip?

I'm not thinking in Inferno as I've never read any of that storyline.

General / Strontium Dog question
12 April, 2009, 11:56:45 PM
Way years back I read 2000AD and I seem to remember an 'origins' story about Johnny Alpha showing the initial resistance movement on Earth against Nelson Bunker Kreelman.  There were, if I remember right, a lot of the familiar mutants in this storyline but I can't remember the name of the story arc.

Books & Comics / Anyone remember Starblazer comics?
11 April, 2009, 10:07:48 PM
Does anyone remember these?  About the same size and format as the war themed Commando comics, and from the same publisher, DC Thomson.

Details here

They ran for 281 issues and while maybe regarded as a bit basic by todays standards there was some enjoyable stories among them.

Suggestions / Are any of these coming out?
11 April, 2009, 01:04:45 AM
I've collected a lot of the reprints recently from the early days of 2000AD.  Recent purchases have been...

The VC's
The ABC Warriors:The Meknificient Seven
Rogue Trooper-All six books
Nemesis the Warlock, all books
Invasion and Savage:Taking Liberties
Ro-Busters

My knowledge of some of the newer stuff is a bit hazy, but is there a Savage story after the events of Savage:Taking Liberties.

Also, are they planning to release any more Rogue Trooper stuff.  I'd never read Realpolitik before, but remembered elements of Regene, but the book ended at a bit of a cliffhanger.  Is there going to be a continuation?

Another thing, would 2000AD consider reprinting the Harlem Heroes.  I know the German team shouting Sieg Heil is a bit...unPC, but the story that I read in one of the old 2000AD annuals from the 80's was enjoyable enough in its own way.

Welcome to the board / Hi everybody

My names Douglas, I'm 38 living in Ayr in Scotland.  Mostly interested in sci-fi.  Comic wise the old Starblazers (not the anime style ones, the Commando style books), older 2000AD like The VC's, Flesh, Rogue Trooper, and a rather obscure comic strip called The Trigan Empire.

TV shows I like include Space:1999, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, Red Dwarf, Life on Mars, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Spaced, etc.
