Creative Common / Re: 3d Dredd bust

I've managed to steal a couple of hours from today to work on this. I have made a lot of the changes mentioned above on the helmet. The bottom of the "X" is still a little high though. I might leave it.Unless the overall vote is needs more moving down.

The body, badge and face/chin are still a wip. I went for the Cliff Robinson style shoulder pad to be a bit different  ;)

Hi,

Fire away with the criticism. That's why I posted here you guys know Dredd the best :)

I'll adjust the red trim to make the eye holes smaller. I have been checking from the characters POV in Maya if the upside down V or red trim would affect line of sight. I have always wondered how some artists Dredd's see.

I was between Kev walkers and Jim Murray's Dredd with a dash of Bolland last night.
Kev's newer version has more visor.

As opposed to Greg Staples one. Both artists are amazing. My goal is to come out with my version in the end

Hi all, I'm still doodling away but this week I have been overcome with the urge to do a 3d Dredd model. Here is the 1st 5 hours of work. I'm still blocking it out and deciding what elements to incorporate from the many great Dredd styles that exist. Is the helmet tapered ? Do I do a curved back badge or flat vertical ? Is Dredd's chin realistic or stylized ? It goes on and on.

Either way I'll post the progress here.

I only see Cintiqs in work . They are sweet. Sorry to hear about the bad luck with one though Jim. Next Time I have over £800 spare maybe I'll get one.

Some great stuff coming out from the boards here. I have my shot in  production now :)

Well done all quality stuff all round. I like the extended comp idea. As long as I start at the beginning.

I need to do the final version for mine :P Too late for this comp I'll get onto the next one before the last 2 days. On to the choices. Some awesome pieces. My favourites are:

1-  IAMTHESYSTEM
2-  Dan Cornwell 02:
3-  LARF 01

And the HM for Dave Thomson

Whatever way this goes I'm impressed Mark's giving it a shot. I've liked all his marvel work recently. Can't wait to see this mag. There's is plenty of room for another major UK title.

Awesome piece IAMTHESYSTEM. I really like the depth of field effect and colours. Very effective.

Here is the preliminary sketch I've worked up. I'm starting the main piece now but will probably not finish it by tonight. I'll still finish it anyway.

Am I the only one excited about Kenneth Brannagh directing ? I really can't wait to see what he comes up with.

No worries it was just a suggestion. I have never seen Lee as "Dracula" it was before my time. I still would not want to encounter him in an ally even now.... His deep voice in a dark isolated location ....  not good

I had done a preliminary sketch for the comp with judge fear but I won't finish it by tomorrow too much on. Maybe by next week  ;)

Great piece davethomson, As of next week it could be true !!! I like the vampire Bhuna  but it might benefit from lighting below the face to make him a bit scarier :)

Well I did one with the helmet sooooo here s a 45 min one. Sorry. I took more time deciding how to portray him. I'll have another go later as I'm not 100% on this one.

A lot of seriously good pieces of work folks. It took over an hour to get through the thread, now I'm motivated to go find some crayon and paper.......
