MACGRUBER
I don't know why I picked this to watch but I wish I hadn't.  I wasn't surprised to find it started out life as a Saturday Night Live Sketch (from about twenty years ago judging by the target of it's satire) but was suprised that it was so laugh free.

Taking the piss out of MCGYVER and Eighties action movies should give you more material but the writer's here muster just enough content to make a funny two minute sketch. Shame it was a 90 minute movie.

And the main character's idiocy doesn't support the logic of the set-up. And as often the case, confuses "shock" and gross with funny.

The lead bloke is good though.

Avoid.

More like MACTURDER.
It was one of those films that had every comedian on earth praising it when it came out, because the SNL people called all their friends and they called all their friends...and then the film came out and it was pretty boring. It had the odd good bit but much like just about every film based on an SNL sketch, it really had nothing past its premise.

My Bloody Valentine
The 3-D one. If you're the sort of person who doesn't like it when films lie to you, presenting you with information that looks like it's happening but is actually just a figment of one character's imagination, meaning you can't possibly figure out what's going on, then you might want to avoid this one.

"The Room: The Definitive Guide"

A fun guide to the latest film to go for "Worst Film Ever" honours. It's a nice light read, not super-hilarious and a little pleased with itself (like so much of the movie's hardcore fandom, I suppose) but worth it if you've seen it nontheless.

Oh, The Raid 2 is on Netflix UK, not see it yet
It's weird and brilliant, a 90 minute blast of martial arts insanity with an hour of gang and political intrigue on top.

Bloodfist 4: Die Trying
Best of the series so far by miles. Don "The Dragon" Wilson is a repo man who takes a black BMW with some nuclear triggers in it, and all sorts of different groups want them and him. Surprisingly great, I think, and on Youtube for nothing.

Even though I can't really afford it, I just bought book one of The O Men. Hurrah! I highly recommend it to anyone currently on the fence.

Does that mean that character's ethnicity (and gender) should be changed in the films to better represent minorities and women? If the character can withstand it, I don't see why not.
Sorry, edited your post a bit, but I agree (and realise I didn't say this in my previous posts).

I still want a Starjammers movie goddammit! With sweet 70s outfits and everything!

Diversity and representation is important.
I agree (I hope the second bit of what I wrote showed that), and hope you agree with the first bit of what I wrote.

The wider thing is, there are fewer decent black and female superheroes to draw from, which may be why a lot of people seem to want the existing people to change gender or ethnicity to bring us up to some sort of parity. And...it's a hard argument to disagree with. I just think there are a few guys who are pretty iconic and it'd be difficult to suddenly say "Spider-Man is now Miles Morales" (he's way, way bigger a deal than Nick Fury was).

I don't know. Perhaps people ought to buy more comics that have a better range of ethnicities and genders in the main cast. I hope the people who complain about the problems comics have with equality are also out on the street on anti-racist demos, though, because it would be a shame if that was the thing they thought racism affected the most.

Games / Ignition OS (Raspberry Pi)
12 February, 2015, 02:15:22 PM
Anyone else getting this OS for their Pi? I did a Kickstarter for it so I'm getting the nice case and a controller as well, but it looks great and the idea of playing cool old games online against your friends seems like a nice idea.

Bloodfist 3: Forced To Fight

Instead of some sort of martial arts movie, not an unrealistic expectation given its title and star, we find a fairly good and dark prison drama, with a smidge of fighting in it.

Again, this is just Official Internet Rumour stuff, perpetuated by people who are OUTRAGED by the fact that they're making more white-male fantasy movies starring whitey
Is anyone really outraged over the whiteness of Peter Parker? Other than seven idiots on Twitter, when you could find seven idiots on Twitter to be outraged about literally anything. I wish people would stop giving those morons the oxygen of publicity.

Of course, I'd like to see more black and female superheroes, but I don't see the point of changing Peter Parker for that. I would like to see the Spider-Man from these comics put in the movies, though:

I'd be happy with them lifting his storyline from that "Ultimate Spider-Man" run, which was a fantastic comic.

Let's do some swapping! Most of em are perfectly fine quality, but best ask beforehand so I can check if stuff's been cut out of one or something similar.

Bloody hell, I was one of his readers right at the very beginning and just assumed he'd gone the way of so many other small press people (without, admittedly, ever trying too hard to find out). Fantastic news, I'll be buying these as soon as I can afford to.

Quote from: Famous Mortimer on 09 February, 2015, 03:19:34 PMso get ready for the "it was only ever going to be a one-and-done thing anyway" from the ABC PR people.

I genuinely did think it was only ever going to be a "one-and-done thing anyway" - I thought it was just a thing to plug the gap before Agents of SHIELD returned! (Although it's already been significantly better than the majority of Agents)

When typing "Agent Carter Season 2" into goog-el it just seems to be people going "there was going to be a season two?!?"
You may, of course, be right, but if it had been a success I'm fairly sure it'd have been brought back.
