Various books since I started reading again late last year. including but not limited to the following (in order):

  • Tarkin
  • A New Dawn
  • Heir to the Jedi
  • Arkham Knight: The Riddler's Gambit
  • Lords of the Sith
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
  • Dark Disciple
  • Inferno (Dan Brown)
  • Aftermath
  • Fiefdom: A Kingdom Novel (Currently Reading)

I've been reading the all new canon Star Wars books too. I thought 'Heir to the Jedi' was probably the best thus far, I was expecting probably too much from 'Lords of the Sith' which felt all a bit like it could have been an entry into the Teen Fiction section of Star Wars to me. I have very nearly finished 'Tarkin' and it's all a bit dry and non-eventful for my liking. Moving straight onto 'Aftermath' once I've put Tarkin to bed.

*Honestly, I don't know which is less likely.

Hi all, been an age since I posted around here. Following a crazy house move I have fallen behind on many comics (you don't want to know how far behind I am in 2000AD!) and issues of WSJ going back to June-ish, so I have spent last week having an WSJ marathon. The good thing is I am now fully up to date, the bad is that I think there's more filler (or more accurately stuff that I just don't like) in WSJ than when I first started.

Food War seems like utter nonsense - a whole chapter about the consistency of a fish! It's like Toriko but without the fun, I'll not miss Naruto or Bleach as I've been skipping them as found it too hard to get into them so late into the series (as well I think the art for Naruto is plain fugly) I started off liking World Trigger but it's devolved into identical looking dudes shouting random stuff in battles for chapter after chapter - not quite on the point where it's now a "skip" but it's got tiresome,  no opinion on One Piece as again I haven't a clue what is going on so skip it (will read it from the beginning one day!), I admit to liking Nisekoi originally but now every week it seems to get creepier and creepier - I don't even know who it's for. I thought these romantic mangas are aimed towards lady readers but it reads as some creepy male fantasy stroke wish fulfillment that it makes me uncomfortable, every single story is like a 30 page Lynx advert with every girl is trying to get into this guy because he's Mr. Fantastic and they're always exposing themselves in varying "hilarious" ways. I think some would argue that it's always been this way but I think the creepiness factor had been ramping up the more I read through them with this new "sister but not really sister, lets have a bath together" character being introduced who also happens to be sexy school teacher.

For the 3 part trial series they did I lost interest in èIDLIVe and skipped the last chapter, Sporting Salts wasn't my cuppa tea at all (sports manga!) and thought Hi-Fi Clusters was by the numbers manga, not outright bad but deja vu material. The only thing that I would continue to read was Judos.

Feel bad moaning when WSJ is so cheap (I keep expecting them to raise the price any day now) but it's not all bad:  One-Punch Man is a joy, All You Need Is Kill was great, Stealth Symphony was good, both Seraph of the End and Blue Exorcist continue to be enjoyable romps. Toriko is like an acid trip to me, I barely follow it half the time but the journey is good!

Now time for that 2000AD marathon catch up (am I really that far behind!)

Yes passed Rage a good few books ago, it isn't available to buy at all any more other than old copies of the Bachman book collections and 'other ways' for digital; it's a shame as its a gripping read but I can see exactly why King doesn't want it out there, there sure is a lot of that could be inspiring to impressionable kids with easy access to guns, I think america has seen enough of that lately.

Currently giving a go at reading (often re-reading) Stephen King's bibliography in chronological order, currently reading Roadwork, one of the Bachman books and one that I hadn't read before.

Think I'll leave the Dark Tower series until very last though, those books where written years apart and I'd have forgotten much of the first by the time the second comes around! Nice to end on his magnum opus too.

About a year ago I was full physical. Now mostly digital when I had a lump bonus and splashed out on a decent tablet (I only buy classic comics and Spider-Man physically and I redeem the code included in the spidey titles and read it digitally, I only buy them to keep my spidey long boxes going, nice full runs I can eventually donate to my kids or they can sell on) and the benefits (complete collections in your hand, no storage needed, so cheap) outway the negatives (ownership).

I like to read a lot of floppies so was getting to the point were I had longboxes full of stuff that I would probably never read again so would have to mess around ebaying off. With digital these things I have the option of returning yet dont need umpteen longboxes. Can't tell you how many 99c comics I've picked up through comixology, it's great.

Yes extended runs of new stuff is welcome. I've much preferred Grey Area over long time residents like Slaine, ABC warriors, Flesh & Strontium Dog which all leave me cold to where I started skipping the later parts.

Very cool. What was the print run, out of curiosity?

Heh. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one — we've been baselessly speculating on 2000AD's circulation since the last official figures we got in 2000...!

Cheers

Jim

Didn't the Guardian mention a number of 15,000 in their behind the scenes video a while back?

Oh and yeah hearty 'grats to Rebellion for selling out! Word is spreading. Hope they don't run out of digital copies! :D

Also, what's clickwheel? Does that work the same as the store where I can access the file's I've bought at any time?

Can't help with the ipad stuff but Clickwheel is the cheapest place to get hold of the meg (£1.99)/prog (£5.74 a month) digitally, they are available to download in PDF of CBR formats. Re-downloadable when you want, Rebellion run the site themselves.

I aint read this but just seen the cover and I'm confused to why Dredd appears to be holding Anderson upside down and seems to be staring at her... well... he seems to be staring.

I don't get it.  ::)

I frequently prefer the contents of the Meg over the Prog. It has consistently great content and the digital Meg is the most 'bang for buck' on the market!

I'll drink to the Meg.

That 'Thanks for the ride lady' story from Creepshow 2  became the chorus to a song by an awful band I was in in high school, so it'll always have a place in my heart.

Creepshow 3 is fecking awful and has none of the original creators present whatsoever.
In my opinion, avoid like the plague.

None of the previous installments had what you would call big budget (though some great set design from long time Romero collaborator Cletus Anderson) but #3 looks like it was made on a few hundred dollars, the segments make little sense either. I thought it was junk.
