As a kid I saw this cover plenty of times and just thought it was a standard cool FF image. It was only once I looked at it again years later I thought what the hell is actually going on there! The guy's got skills, to be fair. Not sure if the Eagle is attacking him?

Quote from: Max Headroom on 22 August, 2023, 07:46:25 PMI would personally be disappointed if these five books did not feature everything that was in the 'Heresies' volumes; only with better repro, colour and presentation.

I suppose complete is best!

I wonder if these will include lavish printing of the Nemesis and Deadlock stuff... kind of hope not (no offence to Critchlow, who I like a lot)

Thanks for checking, which of course I should have just done for myself!

Maybe Joko-Jargo is the issue here. What are his editorial credentials, other than being nepotistically appointed by his uncle?

When did John Burns come on board? Not suggesting he's been there longer, just curious as he's a real comics veteran but I'm not sure when he joined Tharg's ranks.

Quote from: Richard on 11 August, 2023, 07:32:42 PMDoes anyone here know if the Fabled Lands books are good?

Nope, not familiar with these ones.

Apologies, of course it's Robin Smith. I'm very tired today. I'm looking forward to this collection. I think I've only read that one BM strip that was printed in the Meg, so the earlier stuff is all new to me. Very glad this Kickstarter was more of a success than the last Rok. I think John said that was partly down to now having the social media promotion it needed, which had been much improved for the Bogie Collection. So there's a chance this might give Rok series 3 a chance to go ahead.

There's been a successful kickstarter this year for a collection of Bogey Man strips including a new one by JW and Ron Smith.

Quote from: karlos on 31 July, 2023, 07:11:56 PMAnyone know if there's any reprints of The Black Hole on the horizon?

It might be nice if they included it in the new Nemesis reprints really. It's pretty much part of the story, and it would be great to see the art in that format.

When I was a kid I had maybe eight or ten FF books and I was often drawn to the SF ones, more's the pity. Starship Traveller, Rebel Planet, Sky Lord, when I could have been exploring Port Borgos or meeting Yaz-Tromo

so only a couple of centuries to go then?  ::)

Nothing like building anticipation.

Quote from: Funt Solo [R] on 21 July, 2023, 04:47:36 PMYou may be interested in The Anglo-Saxons (Morris 2021) - which covers Britain's history from when the Romans buggered off to pretty much the day before the Battle of Hastings.
I've been studying or teaching Anglo-Saxon England since 1989, so I feel that any new findings in the field should be suppressed lest I be expected to spend time reading them or – heaven forbid – revise long-held suppositions.
For fiction set in that world, I still think it's hard to beat Julian Rathbone, The Last English King. Just plain clever, that one – and entertaining with it.

Quote from: Tjm86 on 21 July, 2023, 04:09:21 PMComplete Peanuts eh?  That collection takes pride of place.  The Fantagraphics run in box sets.  An outstanding collection from an amazing creator.  The only one that comes anywhere near it is Calvin and Hobbes.
There's a coincidence.
I'm having something of an employment windfall at the moment so I forked out a hundred euro for the complete Calvin & Hobbes. It nearly ruptured the postman when it arrived on Tuesday, and is so grand a production that I haven't yet had the courage to remove the cellophane.

The past few years, whenever I come into any money, I put a chunk of it toward my fast-approaching old age and then I buy comics with whatever's left over.
I''m not sure I've got this maturity thing quite figured out.

I was working in a bookshop when this was published and somehow ended up getting a free copy from the publishers. I still haven't taken the shrink wrap off. Must have been in 20007!
