For any Sydney-siders reading these boards, Popcorn Taxi will screen the film October 16 with Karl Urban on hand as a guest star for Q&A!
You wont be disappointed mate its fantastic how long have you gotta wait for dredd to come out in oz and is it being promoted well there
There are posters in the cinemas you couldnt miss if you're seeing something else, but no TV spots or billboards that Ive noticed yet.  Late October I think it comes out here.  Probably see ads the week its released.

I think this is one of those films that'll gain cult status (and thereby warrant sequels) over time, like Alien.

Before I read this, can someone who's seen the film tell me whether this comic contains spoilers?

To anyone still unhappy with the look of the film:

Different artists have always rendered dredds world in their own style.
We should be use to that.

bollands dredd, Ron smiths dredd, ezquerras dredd, Steve dillons dredd (my favourite)

The film is simply travis and garlands dredd.
As long as the tone, the black humour the characterisations are right, who cares about vehicles?

I guarantee if 2000ad printed a dredd comic drawn exactly like the world in the trailer, all fans would love it as visionary and 'out there'.  Even the naysayers.

I really don't want to be one of those whiny people who pick apart a film based on the trailer, so I'll leave it there - at least until a see it in higher resolution.

How dare you bring common sense and rational thinking into this thread!

Though I tweeted the crap out of the YouTube link I never actually watched it myself and will not watch the full res trailer either. I scrubbed through it and caught big muzzle flashes, glimpses of vehicles and city, a few lines from Karl.  I still want that fresh watch in the cinema as the director intended!

That said the impression I got was - drokk me that looks awesome!

I'd resigned myself that 95 was the best we'd ever get of dredd on the screen but not so!

And I find the enthusiasm on this forum infectious!

I like how his shot list calls it pre vis for "untitled project"

Likewise - "a new Dredd film."

That's all I need to know too.

Loving the pics and discussion about fat tyres, but pass on the trailer!

Really?

"A sci fi film by Ridley Scott, somehow related to Alien"

That's all I need to know.
Take my ticket money.

Spare me the three minute spoiler.
I'll see every moment fresh in the cinema.

Hey guys.
What do y'all think about if/when a trailer is released actually NOT watching it?

I decided on this line of action a while ago when I felt trailers were giving away WAY too much and leaving nothing new for when I actually watched the movie.  They tend to throw all the big ooh-aah money shots in them so you tend to feel them coming up and there's absolutely NO surprise on the day.

Consequently apart from some still pics, I've seen not a single second of footage from Prometheus, TDKR, Hobbit, and Dredd will be the same.  So every time a shot comes up that'll be the first time I see it, as the filmmakers intended, not the marketing machine.

I regard trailers nowadays as spoilers!

As a longtime fan of the comics I really don't need a trailer to tell me I want to see a Dredd film, but when I do it will be fresh!  Anyone concur?

Maybe the execs saw this forum and figured all the fans railing about tyre thickness and shoulder pads and figured the director totally muffed it.

Hopefully we'll get a comic relief oaf and a codpiece again!
