Prog / Re: Prog 1461 - Red Death!.........

I agree, damn good prog in most parts. Highlight for me was the crossover tale with the Meg. Very old school feel to it.
Also liked the Dredd although I was surprised at that Nate got away from Dredd so easily. Nice to see him set the evil crime boss up though. Maybe once Nate has been taken down Guthrie can have his spares? ;)
Red Seas is great. Why do you need to take two pickled dogheads for a walk? He hasn't got the bits anymore.
Leatherjack, I'm waiting to see what will happen and hoping it'll either make more sense or be interesting soon. Run, fight, run, fight attack by mad bunny. I hope there is a point soon and that I understand it when it comes.
Sin/Dex. Skim read it. Billi is back. Don't care.

I can't get into CW either. I just don't care about him or any of the other charaters. Does anyone know how much more of his reprints they are going to do?

I really liked Captain Jack, much more than I liked Rose so I'll be looking forward to seeing how they do this. And what is it with Captain's in fiction being called Jack? Jack Aubrey, Jack Sparrow, Swansea Jack and our own cap'n Jack from Red Seas. Is it a nautical thing or what?

PS. I live in Wales maybe it's the influence of the gravel pits?

General / Strips I miss
12 October, 2005, 03:38:23 AM
I was thinking the other day how much I liked Hap Hazzard. Not only for the art but for the humour which was sort of everyday interaction type cynicism. I like Bec and Kawl but it's a different style of humour, more kind of situational silliness. Humour is one of the hardest things to do right and I've never much like the Sin/Dex stuff. What other strips would any of you revive if you could?

PS. Thanks for sorting my icon Wake!

No, Please don't ever bring back Red Razors!! I'm in the 'it was appallingly awful camp'. Elvis as the state godhead? A nine year old genius chief judge who bought the whole place because he could? The talking horse!! Ecch! I'm having flashbacks already.

I have read Red Son and thought it was OK but I'm not a fan of Superham so I only liked it for the Batmany bits.

Personally, I'd have cut a deal with Alan Moore-after all if you're not going to use the material without him being involved then why hang on to it? You could easily say -"you get the copyright and worldwide reprint rights but we get to publish first and keep UK rights". That would seem to be a fair deal to me.

I'd vote for that. I always wanted to find out how Halo became a Space pirate and all the other stuff hinted at by the future lecturer guy. Halo was just SO damn cool. And like DR n Quinch it just wouldn't be the same without Moore.

Anderson is now late fortiesish isn't she and she hardly having hot flushes or sagging into support underwear. Mind you she did spend some time in boing suspension which may have helped. People just seem to last longer in the future. And with lil Rico and the other clones knocking about it adds a layer of realism that JD isn't separate from the time stream and will eventually get killed.

Opaque seems to have access to the relevant hidden government files, and it's seems fair to say that, looking back, the whole thing was realistically short for a future conflict, but maybe too short for anyone to do any proper collaborating, whaddya reckon?

Depends on what the collaborating was. An obvious 'Yes Mr. Sov, them judges went thataway' is definately justification for a death sentence. Just doing what a Sov with a gun told you to wouldn't be enough IMHO. My progs are all in storage so I can't recall if there was any indication of the severity of the collusion but I think it was a fairly mixed group of men and women so I suspected a group trying to feather their own nests by cosing up to the sovs and actively giving them information.
