Arsom! Can't wait to read more of this story! That shock moment sounds ominous...

And good for Ed Kaye, doing official stuff for the 2000ad site!

Thanks very much!

Note to self: check the forums more often :)

I really feel for you. I moved to Canada a few years ago and put all my progs in storage. When I saw how many hundred of dollars shipping to Canada would cost, I got my parent to sell them. It was a sad day!

This is terrible news, and a such great loss. I'm glad that he is finally free of his illness though. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Damn! I was coming here to post a link to it on my site! Beaten to the punch.

If you are interested, I also have an upcoming Dylan Teague Dredd page too: http://www.hypergeek.ca/2010/02/sneak-peek-at-artwork-from-two-upcoming-judge-dredd-stories-illustrated-by-guy-davis-and-dylan-teague.html

I love Guy Davis' work. I definitely very cool to see him drawing Dredd!

Prog / Re: Prog 1656: Morked For Death

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of how he more of a regular guy freedom fighter in the earliest appearances, like Terror Tube... a stretch, I know :)

He loses this later on, when he becomes a complete maniac, there is definitely an element of the little guy versus the grand oppressor in the earlier ones though. It was also written at the height of Margaret Thatcher's grip on the British public, and Mills was reacting quite a bit to that.

Thanks again for the kind comments guys. I picked up the prog this morning, and Wow! What an amazing issue. I'm loving Shakara and Kingdom at the moment, and Tony Lee's new one is off to a good start. It was also cool to see PJ drawing Dredd again, I love PJ's Dredd!

I'll be back in Canada next week where we are a couple of months behind... grumble... so I'll have to wait a while to grab 1657. Picking 2000 AD up every week is probably one of the biggest things I miss about being in th UK :D

Hi,

I just wanted to say thanks to people that made positive comments about the Defoe article, it was the first credit I ever had in the prog/meg, so I am glad it wasn't too terrible :)

For those wondering why the letters page was displaced, the piece was originally submitted for publication in the megazine (in a slightly longer format), but Tharg realised that they had the next few months of the meg booked up, and because the Defoe trade just came out, it would be better to get it published sooner than later. Therefore, it was edited down a bit and was placed in the weekly prog. I was told that if it was well received he might start an infrequent 'behind the thrills' series of articles, so If you enjoyed it and want to see more, please tell Tharg!

Writing the piece was a most enjoyable experience, and speaking with both Pat Mills and Leigh Gallagher was a true honour. Pat Mills is one of the nicest people in the industry that I have ever dealt with, and is an incredibly interesting man. He is so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about history that he wrote the most thorough answers to all of my questions. In fact, if I didn't have to edit this down to a one page format, it would have stretched about 5 or 6!

I haven't had a chance to see the final printed piece, as I flew back to the UK from Canada on Monday, to attend my mum's funeral, which was on Wednesday afternoon. I'm now looking after my dad, but should hopefully be able to grab a copy soon.

Thanks again for your kind comments, they have cheered me up immensely in these very sad times.

P.S. Make sure to check out my website (http://www.hypergeek.ca) where I have also posted interviews with Dan Abnett, Frazer Irving, PJ Holden, and a bunch of non 2000 AD people. I shall be trying to conduct more when I am out of the worst of my period of bereavement.

Heh.  Appreciate you changing the name of yer feature there, Ed!   ;D

Oh hey! Hah, yeah, it seemed to perfect when I came up with it, and my buddy Steve Saunders said, "you've read the Thrill-Powered Thursdays" blog right?... I slapped my head and went back to the drawing board. I have realized also that the stuff I have up is hardly ever just on Thursday anyway, so now I have a bunch of stuff like The Weekly Droid Watch, Droid Interrogations, the Weekly Prog Featurette, and tag it all with "The Galaxy's Greatest Content".

Phew, not stepping on any more toes am I?  ;)

I should have you a link in my blog roll actually, I've been meaning to update all my links!

Ahhhhhhhhh, I had no idea that they owned it. Yeah, doubt that they will shift to another platform them. Shame really, it's an OK service, but very few people have ever heard of it. Maybe if they'd promoted it a bit better...

Hope you enjoy!

Frazer draws Conan ... now that's a tantalizing thought ...

Cheers!

Jim

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that! Though it might be a while, his schedule is backed up quite a bit :)

General / Interview with Dan Abnett on Hypergeek.ca
27 August, 2009, 10:02:50 AM
Hey again, like I said in my previous message, I have no idea why I didn't plug these before, but I thought 2000 AD readers might like to see this interview I did last month with Dan Abnett.

Subject covered include how he started out at 2000 AD, why he will never leave for th US market, Sinister Dexter, Kingdom, Insurrection, his exclusive Marvel contract, and his upcoming prose novels.

Hope you like it!

General / Interview with Frazer Irving on Hypergeek.ca

I have no idea why I didn't plug this on the board before, but here is a link to an interview I recently did with the great Frazer Irving, international comic superstar :)

Not much 2000 AD stuff is covered, but we talk about Gutsville quite a bit, and Frazer reveals the circumstances that put the comic in development limbo. We also talk about his (then) recently finished arc on Azrael for DC, Days Missing, and his upcoming Batman & Robin run (his lips are tight).

Hope you enjoy!

No offense to the people at clickwheel, but I could count the amount of people who know about their service with one hand, and I am missing a finger (kidding!)

I don't know if you are familiar with this yet, but the incredibly popular ComiXology website have launched an iPhone comics app (iTunes link) that has already become insanely popular in very little time.

This is the list of comics on the phone so far: Clicky. As you can see they've started out with smaller titles like Rob Williams' Cla$$Wars, Richard Starking's Elephant Men, Tony Lee's Midnight Kiss, Atomic Robo etc.

These are all comic that appear on Clickwheel already, but no body bothers with. I have heard very good reports from people who have put their comics on the app and say that they have found a whole new market that they did not have through the Local Comic Store market. I have also heard that putting your titles on more than one digital distribution system is not a problem... unless you have some specially deal with Clickwheel.

I was talking to the comiXology guys on Twitter the other day and told them that a really good comic to put on their app would be 2000 AD, they told me that they would LOVE to have the comic on their, but the website was down so they couldn't find a way to contact Rebellion. They did a tweet asking who would like to see it on the app, and were flooded with responses and retweets saying that they would love to see it, many by people in the US who had no idea how to get 2000 AD, but would love to.

I would seriously recommend discussing it with the comiXology people. It would be an incredible smart marketing move on your behalf.

Also, for the regular computer screen. You may have talked to Rantz Hoseley about the Longbox project. I really hope you did, because that programme is going to destroy everything else!

I realised that about the spoilers, but I tried to hold back a bit. I find that trade reviews are quite hard to do without letting some stuff slip.
