I tried this a few years ago and got up to 34K words... however, I was unemployed at the time, until about half way through November.

I think the idea is not what you write, as much as just getting you in to the habit of writing everyday (good, bad or atrocious).

It is tempting this year, I'll admit... hmmm.

That's pretty damned sweet.

Could you maybe post details for a tutorial? That would be awesome. The Blitzspear is prob one of my favourite sci fi vehicles ever.

Quote from: "His Lordship rac"Cruel is ok- but ten seconds to make your pitch?
That's just silly. Most folk would have been nervous enough without that added pressure. And while I never saw it- I did hear from a reliable source that some folk didn't even get started before the buzzer went on them!

Well, there should be a lot more fodder for Future Quake.... ten seconds is daft, and was an oversight of the organizers I feel. The first session should have been an hour at least. And yes, some folks didn't even manage to stammer their name and the name of the script... I don't think I mentioned the name of my strip in either pitch actually... oops.

I found out I came 4th, just one place away from the public vote round <sigh>.

Quote from: "kangamania"Who won the pitchfest?

It sounds a bit cruel! 24 people in 30 minutes? Yikes!

I can't remember the name of the guy who won, the story was 9 to 5 though.

Cruel? Well, yeah. It's the nature of the beast though...

good on you for giving it a go, it sounds hellish, impossible even and it sounds like a good story....

Thanks for the kind words! I'm going to try and polish it up a bit and maybe approach other, small press type outfits with it.

I'll drop another post on my blog soon about the Comic Show.

The pitch fest was indeed brutal, I can tell you this because I took part. In fact my nerves were so bad that when I sat down after the second round on the Sunday my legs were visibly shaking!

The aspirants didn't know what to expect, and I don't think the judges did either. We were given just 10 seconds to sell our ideas in the first round. The first six people just got cut down...

I've written more about it here //http://likealittlekidwithabeard.blogspot.com/2008/10/bics-got-talent.html

I have to say, I had a great weekend. Gary Leech's walk through session was great. The 'Best Graphic Novel of All Time' was fun, if slightly lopsided, and I'd just like to give props to Geek Syndicate and Tony Lee, who all had words of encouragement for me.
