Forgive me Tharg, for I have been bothered by time wasters on Preloved; it's been 9th May 2015 since I last tried to sell any of my collection. But I have repented and am here to make one final push to clear out the garage!

I have been there since Prog 1 in 1977 but space is at a premium and I don't really have the time to re-read everything from the past. It's really time to let go of the past, though I will never forget the good times I had.

I have so far sold about half the 2000ADs, a third of the Megazines. Many annuals, yearbooks and specials are still available. There are also a fair number of postcards, posters, a diary, playing cards and other indicia. I have done my best to estimate the conditions as best I can from looking at the issues themselves. Any potential buyer would be welcome to view them if they can get to me.

Please contact me with your requirements and I'll see if they are available. The photos shown are examples; those particular ones have been sold now.

NB: Most 2000ADs issues up to the high 400s have a name in biro on the front cover.

2000AD: 1 - 100 Condition: most OK, some good
2000AD: 101 - 519 Condition: half 5/10, quarter OK, quarter good
2000AD: 520 - 1823 Condition: mostly good to very good
JDM[All Volumes]: All: Condition: early ones good, newer ones very good

The prices below are I think they're worth, though it depends a bit on how many you are buying; make me an offer and let's see how it goes.

Postage (where applicable) would usually be by MyHermes, as they are cheap and reliable; postage for 100 progs with them is around £10 including insurance. I would consider other carriers if a buyer wanted me to.

Classifieds / Signed John Hicklenton stats
27 September, 2014, 11:14:03 AM
Hi Everyone

These are photostats of original artwork by the late John Hicklenton, coloured by Keith Page / Gina Hart, and would have been used to make the masters for printing the comic. Additionally at some point after that, they have been signed by John, probably at a convention. More information in this thread.

Please note that the thumbnails below are 400x640; the full size images are 1536x2048.

Dated 1990 (from 'Black Widow', coloured by Gina Hart):

Dated 1993 (from 'Monkey Beat', coloured by Keith Page):

If your are interested in buying these, please PM me with an offer.

Kind Regards

Classifieds / References for prospective buyers?
22 September, 2014, 03:17:01 PM
Hi All

Is anybody who has bought from me before willing to help me with references?

I am occasionally getting people wanting to pay for progs by PayPal and often this will be for buyer security; however I would never sell via PayPal as I simply don't trust them with my bank account details in order to turn payments into actual money and they also charge fees. They have all sorts of restrictions on how and when you can access your money even if you do use them.

This sort of over-formalisation is fine if one is a multi billion $ corporation, but not for a private sale. In fact, quite frankly I detest PayPal and if I didn't buy on eBay then I wouldn't maintain a PayPal account at all.

I have dealt with several people on the 2000AD forums with no problems; would any of you that have dealt with me be prepared to offer references to buyers who may feel uncomfortable without using PayPal?

Kind Regards

Martin

Classifieds / Valuation - John Hicklenton artwork
15 September, 2014, 01:50:36 PM
Hi All

I was bought these as a Christmas present years ago; they were sold as signed original artwork by the late John Hicklenton at one of the regular antiques fairs in the old drill hall on the Quay in Sandwich, Kent. Please note that the thumbnails below are 400x640; the full size images are 1536x2048.

Dated 1990:

Dated 1993:

Now I have no idea how to validate the originality claims and no idea what the pictures are worth if genuine, so any help in that area would be gratefully appreciated.

Any ideas?

Off Topic / Post a picture of the Real You!
15 February, 2014, 10:13:31 AM
Hi Everybody

I just tried to post an updated image of myself to the existing thread and get a warning about necroposting in a thread over two months old :( Since I imagine it is considered bad netiquette to do that, I'm starting a new thread. I'm sure the moderators can merge the threads if they consider it appropriate to do so.

So here's one I did earlier (yesterday, 14th February 2014). The facial area will become my standard avatar across the internet, except on a few private forums, so y'all better get used to being overwhelmed by my flawless good looks :P

Item: Soon to be* complete collection of 2K/JDM from 1 to recent

*Two missing issues (234, 308) have been ordered and will be included when the collection is actually sold.

Description: I have been collecting since prog 1 but space is at a premium and I don't really have the time to re-read everything from the past. If I ever do somehow win the lottery, all the best stuff is available in a more convenient form or bagged with the meg.

I am still a subscriber, so for the sake of context am keeping Megs from issue 300 (17 Aug 2010) and 2000AD from Prog 1700. All previous issues I intend to sell.

Below follows an inventory and after that some photos. More photos will be included when I sell the collection, this is just to prove I have something at all :)

I have done my best to estimate the conditions as best I can from looking at the issues themselves. Any potential buyer would be welcome to view them if they can get to me and the sale would probably be pick-up only anyway. I live in the Lowestoft area.

NB: Most 2000ADs up to the high 400s have a name in biro on the front cover.

2000AD................. 1-100   Condition: most OK, some good
2000AD.............. 101-0519 Condition: half 5/10, quarter OK, quarter good
2000AD.............. 520-1699 Condition: mostly good to very good
JDM[All Volumes] .... 1-0299 Condition: early ones good, newer ones very good

So, any ideas what I should sell them for? I am aiming to sell them complete.

Welcome to the board / Borag Thungg, fellow Earthlets!

Been lurking and occasionally posting here since 2006, but never really noticed the intro threads; guess I'd better do one now :-\

Bought my first prog at 11 years old when they came out and still there without a break, though sadly not a Seto Thargo. I do have all of the Megs and sci-fi specials; it took ages to track them down, when times were happier and money was less of a problem.

Having a load of 50s-80s sci-fi books me and my dad collected when I was a kid, it probably influenced my tastes; there's so much to remember over 32 years, but off the top of my head:

The good: Bad Company, Fiends of the Eastern Front, Zenith, Shakara, Necrophim, recent Dredd.

Honorable mention for The Inspectre - the "start the tokomac with the workers still inside it" scene... you just can't "unsee" that :o

The bad: Chronos Carnival, Space Girls, Ant Wars.

The ugly: Siku's Raptaur, anything by Hicklenton (though to be fair he improved a bit after some online critisicm), anything to do with zombies (including the current fad itself... yawn).

The "grudgingly admire but disagree with": Halo Jones (unremarkable "everyperson" somehow becomes important), Chopper (juvenile delinquent portrayed as hero), the Democracy arc's portrayal of Dredd (character corrupted for author tract).

All in all, 2000AD and the Meg feel like most anthology publications, except that the good seems to outweigh the bad - well, most of the time anyway :P Oh wasn't there a rash of requests from the publishers for old progs to be scanned some years ago? Maybe even Tharg isn't a Seto Thargo anymore :o

Off Topic / Grud help us - Marge Simpson in Playboy!
13 October, 2009, 11:59:17 PM
I love Tooth. The Meg too. The way "Judge Dredd" royally takes the piss out of everything in sight. Especially future crazes and insane ideas that could become fact. But not this time. This time, Real Life has beaten Dredd's world to the punch:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8300463.stm

This is not epic fail. Not even Handcart Has Arrived fail. This is ABSOLUTE TOTAL DROKK UP FAIL!

What next? Judge Hersey topless in FHM? Armitage's-Weirdo-Crazy-Assassin-Girl stripped to her undies in Loaded? Lara Procopio half naked in 2000AD? (What :o Damn, have to scrub that one :P)

Well anyway, you get the idea. Sure there's been cartoon porn for years, but this is just so drokked up. This is Playboy. The real Playboy, for Grud's sake. What the stomming hell were they smoking? By the time that run of the magazine is sold out, there's gonna be a lot of sharks left with a crick in the neck and saying to themselves over and over again, "What the drokk was that"?

Sod it, I'm off to get drunk. I need to after seeing that ::)

Please help me avoid hours in the garage, spending time I wish I had, wading through 1500+ progs :(

There was surely a prog in which Dredd and a rookie are chasing perps in the 5th dimension (this is some time before the recent dark matter story) and being there temporarily gives Dredd godlike powers over the city.

He stops his bike for a moment, glares down at the city like god's face and growls "Obey the Law, creeps!", adding to the rookie: "Never hurts to let 'em know who's boss" or something like that.

Please can anybody point me to this?
