Suggestions / Robo Hunter World Cup Story
11 June, 2010, 12:02:01 PM
What was the name of that Robo Hunter world cup story back in the eighties, I loved it when I was a kid.

How about a bagged collected edition with the Meg this month?

Too late I know, but a nice thought.

I had the pleasure of working with John Mcrea all afternoon in Birmingham yesterday. In the words of Tim Nice-But-Dim. What a thoroughly bloody nice bloke.

General / Speculation and where you got it right!
16 April, 2010, 10:19:28 AM
The speculation thread over on the prog board got me thinking about past 2000ad related predictions that I've made.

I remember when there was a letter printed in the Nerve Centre by some guy saying that he'd guessed that the dead man was Dredd after taking the long walk. I had also guessed that but hadn't written in and then wished that I had!

Who else guessed that one right and where else have you been right or wrong?

Games / Dragon Age Origins

I'm thinking of buying this for 360, has anyone played it? Is it any good? It has a pretty good pedigree with Bioware making it.

General / Judge Dredd Case Files 0
04 January, 2010, 05:36:34 PM
Just spotted this on amazon as available to preorder. Not heard of it before. In the description it says it contains reprints of lost thrills some of which have not been printed for over thirty years.

It may have been discussed before (sorry if it has) but does anyone know what it will contain? I'm guessing it's old 2000ad and Judge Dredd Annual reprints along with stuff from the old summer Sci-Fi Specials.

Games / XBox Live poor sportsmanship
28 November, 2009, 01:06:33 PM
I'm bloody sick of people on XBox Live who switch of their game everytime I'm beating them at FIFA 10. Last night I was winning two games 3-0 and 4-0 and on both occasions players switched off robbing me of a climb in the rankings.

Why can I not be credited with a win in these circumstances? It makes me think that it's not worth bothering.

General / Prog 1662 review on 2000ad Review
25 November, 2009, 01:38:37 PM
I don't normally read 2000ad Review but just read through their review of Prog 1662 and couldn't believe my eyes. What is Steven Watson on? Is he reading the same prog as me. Talk about harsh...

Prog / Prog 2009
13 December, 2008, 01:21:01 PM
Just finished reading this one. I haven't posted here for a while and I'm not posting a review of everything, needless to say, It's a great end of year prog. Last year Prog 2008 definately belonged to Dredd but there's no doubt about this years top story. Dante... Bloody brilliant. I can't wait for the next installment, this story just keeps going and getting better and better IMO. On another note... Jeez! The letter in the Nerve Centre complaining about Burn's artwork. I find it (the artwork, not the letter) stunning and personally prefer his Dante to Fraser's, as for complaining about his depiction of Jena? When Burns draws her, I actually fancy a comic character, occasionally over the last twelve months she has looked like a man when drawn by Fraser.

As for the rest, solid all round no complaints at all. If the next twelve months shape up as well as this it's going to be great. And promises from Tharg about events in Mega City One too. Glorious.

Events / Free horror movie event in Brum this Sunday
20 October, 2008, 08:38:36 PM
For anyone that's interested, the latest event linked to the Killriculum feature film project is happening in Birmingham at Millennium Point this weekend at the Hello Digital event.

From 1.30-4.30pm on Sunday we'll be screening a selection of films that have been submitted to www.killriculum.co.uk. This will be followed by a Q & A with legendary director John Hough (Legend of the Hellhouse, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Twins of Evil, Escape from Witch Mountain et al) and the afternoon will finish with a large screen showing of James Whale's masterpiece The Bride of Frankenstein(PG). The event is completely free and if anyone fancies coming just let me know and I'll reserve some tickets for you.

There's loads of other stuff on all weekend there too and if you have teenage kids we're running workshops in filmmaking and editing, special effects, acting and writing for screen and loads of other stuff all day on Saturday and Sunday, all free too.

Links / Killriculum
26 September, 2008, 05:04:11 PM
Hi, haven't been around for a while, but I thought I'd post a shameless plug for a project I've been working on. We're building toward making a horror feature film next year about two kids from Aston in Birmingham getting sent to a boarding school where all is not as it seems.

Our first phase is the creation of a website http://www.killriculum.co.uk there's a pretty good video mash-up and we're asking people to upload their own short horror movies to the site with awards being given for the ten best at Birmingham's HelloDigital event in October where we're also running workshops and doing a big screen showing of The Bride of Frankenstein. In the gallery you can view shorts that people have made already and vote on them.

There's also a group called Killriculum on Facebook if you fancy joining.

Have a look if you're at a loose end.

Film & TV / Cloverfield
29 November, 2007, 05:53:01 PM
Type Cloverfield into Google if you haven't yet. I've just come across the trailer. It seems to be a new kind of giant monster Godzilla type thing. Not much information out there but it looks amazing.

Help! / Useless subscription services
28 July, 2007, 01:56:43 PM
Last month my copy of the Meg didn't arrive. I emailed subscriptions and then a couple of days later customer relations. Eventually someone left a message on my mobile saying that I don't subscribe to the Meg, only 2000ad and the Extreme edition. The next day I recieved an email apology saying that subscriptions had realised I do subscribe after all... Surprise surprise!

A week or so later I recieved my copy in the post, but by then, afraid of missing the edition I had already bought it and so had two copies. This month my copy of the Meg has surprisingly not turned up. I have emailed subscriptions twice and then customer relations and nobody has got back to me.

Oh yes, and despite promises of four Abbadon books when I subscribed I never got them either. I have now, in the absence of any response, bought this months Meg from Borders.

What can I do? Who should I contact to get this resolved? I took out a subscription to make things easier but so far it would be a hell of a lot easier to just go to the shops. Except of course, Rebellion have already taken my money. Needless to say, I'm not very impressed.

General / Bad Company: Kano
25 July, 2007, 11:01:06 AM
I see that this is to be released as a collection. Now Bad company 1 & 2 are among my favourite 2000ad stories ever but I was away when this story was originally published. Without giving away any of the story, is this any good? Should I be pre-ordering it?

Bloody hell! Coventry City played Nuneaton Borough in a pre-season friendly last night and who did they play in defence? A player by the name of Papa Angel! I hope they've recruited the whole gang. Judging by what Junior's been doing in the Meg lately any team visiting the Ricoh Arena won't have a leg to stand on. Promotion Beckons. Now, if we can just sign someone like Kano as a centre half...

Books & Comics / House of Hammer
18 June, 2007, 02:08:57 PM
Just wondering, does anyone else remember the old seventies magazine House of Hammer? I've got a pretty complete collection in a bag somewhere. As well as articles about the films, they used to have a kind of Terror Tales strip called Van Helsings something or other and an adaptation in comics of a famous Hammer film each month. I must have a look, I wonder if there might be any 2000ad artists or writers in there.
