Classifieds / Re: Massive Clearout!!
29 December, 2006, 10:24:10 AM
Y'alright kids. I've replied to everyone who's already e-mailed me. Thanks for the interest.

Without wanting to get into a sob story, me and the girlfriend are splitting up and I'm moving out, so need some cash, plus need to downsize cos I'll be in a much smaller house.

I've worked out some rough prices for most of the items, so I'll update the thread later on today when I have a wee bit more time.

I live just outside Loughborough if anyone was interested in collecting any items in person or having a look at any particular items.

Whatever's left after a week or so will go onto eBay so get in there quick! ;)

I'm having a massive clearout due to moving house shortly so my entire collection is up for grabs. Please pm me with any offers. I'd prefer to do it in bulk lots for speed and to save messing about with loads of trips to the post office, but I'm willing to split in to little bundles if the price is right. Happy shopping!

News / Re: TOM FRAME - OUR DROID............
22 July, 2006, 02:09:46 AM
So sad to hear this. Tom was one of the few names I could easily recall from my first stint as a reader back when I was 8 years old. Twenty-odd years later when I started reading again, it was so reassuring to see Tom still there that it made reading 2000ad again so easy. Sadly missed already.

Got a few belters - sometimes makes me wonder why I leave the house any more.

The first involves a Raleigh Chopper, bikes which were designed to kill children with their unstable nature and the convenient gap in the handlebars that you could get catapulted through (you can probably guess what's coming).

A few weeks prior to the incident I remember sitting in the kitchen of one of the local farms and the old boy there saying to me (insert broad Yorkshire accent) "Bye 'eck, if you get speed wobble on one of them buggers going down Hutton Bank (local steep hill), you've 'ad it!".

Armed with this precious knowledge, I visited my cousin in Hutton Rudby, home of the notorious Hutton Bank. After several hours of blissful fun that only a nine year old can have, I set out for home and shortly reached the brow of Hutton Bank.

A short way into the descent, the front wheel started to shake a little, then it started to move side to side quite rapidly. This motion built and built unitl soon the only things I could here were the hum of the front tyre as the bike swept wildly from one side of the road to the other, and the old man's words of wisdom ringing in my ears...

I woke up the next day in hospital, but one of my brother's school friends saw the whole thing (which still doesn't explain why I was left on the side of the road for over two hours...), but as predicted I hit the kerb, flew through the clevery designed handlebars and hit a brick wall face first, my only injuries being to knock my two front teeth out.

My other story involves a very large bull. I was helping my dad feed up one day, and I was in the pen with the bull and all his lady friends (which makes bulls even grumpier than normal for those not familiar with these things). After a few minutes I heard my dad shout "Get out!" and without looking scambled out between the low wall and the feeder rack above it. Hearing a loud bang behind me, I turned round to see a bull glaring at me from behind a section of wall which had been pushed out of whack by two inches by the impact...

I wear glasses at the moment, but I'm getting laser eyes fitted in about three weeks time.

Can't wait!

General / Re: Time to rest Dredd?
04 August, 2004, 07:15:25 PM
I sometimes get the feeling that Dredd stories are always going to be a bit of an anti-climax, because no matter how dicey it gets, you know he's going to survive. He may be battered to a pulp, but he'll get patched together by the med-squads and be back on the streets the following week.

It sometimes lacks the suspense of wondering whether or not the main protagonists will still be around at the end of the story. I'm not saying that dredd should be killed off for the sake of giving us a bit of a surprise one week, but maybe a handful of enforced breaks is about as close as we can get to injecting this sort of suspense?

Agree with Tulkas on Bolland - too clinical and there's rarely any "dynamism" in the frames. The way he draws peoples legs is just wrong in my opinion.

Also, Ron Smith suffered a little from the same IMHO - incredible detail in each frame, but little in the way of dynamics.

My fave Dred artist of the early eighties is McMahon by a long shot.

I haven't read the whole thread cos basically there's a hell of a lot of it, and the microwave has just pinged.

Anyway, Keane: 1 - it's a comic. 2 - Lighten up, go and have a wank or something.

I thought shiv came from trying to write "shit" on a Nokia phone with predictive text switched on. Although fuck comes out as "dual" so that's the end of that theory.

Feel a bit of a yanker now...
