I think he's actually working on it now, hence the invitation to talk about it

Help! / Help a poor reporter in need, guv'nor?

Well, the 2000AD travelling exhibition has rolled into the sleepy town of Harrogate and what a stir it's making! Mercer Art Gallery bod, Janine, confirms that more adults have been through the doors than kids. Front page of local paper's review section devoted to pic of fool dressed as Dredd, last seen walking along the sedate streets of this upper crust Northern outpost of Southern snobbishness (apologies to all our Southern basta ... er ... readers)

Anyway, as part of the events being held to mark the exhibition, a Dennis the Menace artist called (I think) Paul Palmer (that may be grossly wrong but I'm pretty sure his last name was Palmer) is visiting to talk to local school kids. Yours truly being the local paper's only comics-fixated reporter, I have the merry job of interviewing him when he arrives ...

Now, I'm afraid that I went straight from reading Transformers to reading Tooth, so I've never even owned a copy of the Beano.

So, any particular questions/snippets of info about his career/infor I can use to sound knowledgable would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I get to interview our very own Kev Sutherland as well! Fancy that!

TOOTH GOES MANGA!

Wow, a nice little departure for the art on Dredd. Looks nice, though not sure if this is a trend that should be encouraged! Mr Gordon really is churning out the hits isn't he! Dredd's got a nice feeling back to it since he took over, shades of the good old days ...

Not for a long time have I opened a page of my prog and said, out loud, 'Wow!' But THAT was what happened when I turned to the two-page spread of Leviathan's errrr 'entry'. Great script (though ending seemed a little quick and the shooting cliffhanger last week felt a little contrived, particularly as we then go straight towards the climax in the next episode - perhaps Tharg should have devoted a bigger slice of this week's prog to the story?) and stunning artwork that tops even Scarlet Traces and Xtnct in the Meg. A classic that must be reprinted ...... NOW JAMIE!!!!!!

From Grace - waiting to read in one go. Si and Fraze deliver again and again it seems (oo er missus!)

Sin Dex - sorry, no fan of Davis' artwork at all and never have been. To be honest, you can keep S/D in there for as long as there are people wanting to read it, but I've just had enough now...

Verdict: a very good eight erect fingers from the possible double fist of ten .... stunning art and a great conclusion spoilt only by the presence of Sin/Dex. Keep it up Tharg (the quality, the quality!!!)

Absolutely! I think, for me, he was closer to Fleming's idea of Bond than any of the others - a spy who worked by his own intuition rather than relying on a load of fancy gadgets. Shame he didn't take off really, but I suppose it was a period when the world of spies wasn't in favour and their role without the old Soviet enemy seemed uncertain

But I digress ...

"Finding Nemo is class, and can be recommended to anyone who doesnt mind films from the evil house of disney!"

Ah, but this is the venerable ivy-clad, nice gardened house of Pixar, which is only part owned by the evil property developers of Disney Corp!

And yes, having seen the trailer for Nemo on the Monsters Inc DVD, it does look good. Thought we seem to have been waiting for it for years!!!

Oh, and as for movies on t'tele ... Goldeneye has it. Though am I the only Timothy Dalton fan here?

Who's the couple in the mirror? The 'smashed' face appears to suggest it could be Q's son?

I actually liked the early Armitage. It got ridiculous towards the end and the art sucked big time, but when it started the scripts and art really had, for me, that element of griminess that has always characterised British society along with the notion of a dark underbelly to Armitage's world that the judges don't normally touch. Also, I really liked the idea of the Brit-Cit police force having a plain clothes detective section - something about that which made me happy, can't put my finger on it though.

It did tend to borrow a little too much from Morse et al but on the whole I thought it had real potential, which was sadly wasted (like so much of the Dredd's world stuff). Looking forward to Mr Ridgeway's interpretation though and hopefully it can pull itself out of the mire after the break...

"For example
North England - Bap = is a bread roll
Scots - Baps = breasts"

If you are unsure of what part of England your are in, you can instantly find out by going to a Fish and Chip shop!

Just look at the price board for its description of a bread roll. Teacake, barmcake, barm, breadcake, bap and roll all seem to have specific geographical boundaries to their use

Simple.

"My problem with Christianity is that the existence of God part is a stupid superstition,"

Um ... no offence Dudley, I don't mind your opinion that it's superstition but I do kinda object to the use of the word 'stupid' on the grounds that ... well, I find it grossly offensive to my own beliefs and the beliefs of more than 1.5 billion people. There's nothing 'stupid' about believing in something. It's just a matter of faith and basing those beliefs on what you feel to be true. Now, I'm not going to get into this argument again because everyone had a massive bust up over it a while ago. I'm happy to discuss points of interpretation of religion, but please don't call us 'stupid' just because you don't share our belief in God ...

"not with the moral philosophy that goes along with it. Indeed, the problem with the Christian churches is the fact that they quite blatantly go against the spirit and letter of the words of their founder."

I'm in agreement with you there. Certainly Catholicism and Anglicanism, as well as plenty of other denominations, have a lot to answer for. But at the end of day, following the word of Jesus is bloody difficult, and (as you point out quite rightly) I defy you to find a single Christian who could claim they have. But that's not to say there are those of us trying to steer the church in the right direction ...

Megazine / Re: Meg 211

I must confess that I don't really like the Death photo image - doesn't really do it for me. Whereas the other one ... when i saw I actually felt a little afraid ... in the same way as when I saw Fraze's pic of death reaching for that baby or when he killed that pregnant woman. It has a hypnotic voodoo swirl of faces, the ever-growing litany of Death's victims, and the painted feel gives it a blurry, frightening streak. Death too looks much like the fiend he is. To be honest, I've never been particularly impressed with the Death as black comedy thing. Young Death was great, don't get me wrong, but I think it's just gone overboard a bit. Maybe after Necropolis there was nowhere to take the character but this latest story I think begins to take him further - showing that it's not just quick endless slaughter, but he's now also enjoying torturing them as well!

As for the rest of the Meg...

Devlin
I have to really force myself to read Devlin and must keep referring back to past issues because I can't make who's who and where they are. I know Smith is capable of faster pacing than this, but this appears to merely be ticking along.

xtnct
Disraeli is one of my all time favourites and with Leviathan in tooth, this is a real treat. When I heard Paul was doing the script, I must admit feeling cautious because (no offence Paul) I wasn't overly keen on his Doctor Who stuff. But it's proved me wrong - original, witty and striking. Probably the best sf we've had in the meg for a long, long time. Nice one.

Charlie's War
Have yet to read

Harry 20
I absolutely love this and it was the first thing I turned to this month. I'm so keen to find out how he escapes - a feeling I've not had from a tooth story for a while.

Bendatti
Again, have to keep referring back but may well just read it all in one go

Article
Makes good lunchtime reading!

Dredd
Hotdog Runs - my favourite! Mr Rennie's on a bit of a roll!

Nine out of ten - top!
