But, as you'll notice, it always has to be on the right hand side. The problem with this week's cover is that putting it in the bottom right corner would not only unbalance the whole page, but would also look terribly incongruous. there's a lot of 'dead space' at the bottom right which is ideal for the tagline. To put the barcode down there would shove the tagline over to the left, covering his gun arm (which is actually the dominant part of the image) and making the page look very crowded while covering up a much greater part of the image ...

A case of "slapped on top without much in the way of thought having gone into it"

Based my experience of publishing, the editorial team will have pretty much fuck all say over where the bastard thing actually goes ...

Also, I noticed that the logo blends in with the blood spatter on the wall, which gives the pic EVEN MORE depth as it places the logo on the wall behind the family photo.

To be honest, the more I look at it the more respect I gain for the design bods at 2kAD ...

Seriously - why would placing the barrel tip behind the logo, or moving it slightly down, ruin the image?

Because the image is pretty flat, with the gun in danger of blending in with the dark background. Slipping the logo behind the barrel manages to give a little bit of depth to an otherwise 2D image. It also actually makes it more eye-catching.

For what it's worth, I'd have done the same and I applaud the continuing use of visual tricks on the front cover - makes it stand out greatly from the other shit on the shelf ...

Events / Brighton: where are you staying?

Appreciate everyone's attention is on Dreddcon at the mo, but where are people staying at Brighton? I checked the Metropole and it's a facking rip-off - more than ?300 for a double room over the weekend. Not paying that in a million years, so wondered what other people were doing for accomm ...

Are you sure you're not one of MY readers? Anyway, if you consider that even the BNP's newspaper is printed in Slovakia of all places, the printers of the prog and Meg are probably many, many miles from Oxford ... I wonder where they actually are ...

Well, if you're going to exclude RR stories "because their crap" then really the GN would just consist of the cover ... but I've enjoyed it. A good character idea that Millar quite obviously got bored of almost instantly ...

Having just picked up a couple of cheap 2kAD yearbooks, I notice there were one or two Red Razors one-offs that have not been included in the new GN - is there any reason for their exclusion?

Have actually been impressed with Red Razors, somehow seems better than when I read it originally. I guess you just have to take Mark Millar at face value, treat it as a lark and try not to cry sallow tears of disappointment too much. The opening info page is good though - exactly the kind of thing every GN should have!
